If a defect in a single device causes you decide that you will no longer purchase Apple products, that is certainly within your rights to decide. But I'd suggest you allow Apple to replace your iPhone, which again will be another black model, and see if that unit fares better. Then if that replacement iPhone has the same problem with the coating flaking off, you would have justification for asking Apple to replace the black iPhone with a white one.
By the way, we are all just fellow users here, so making blanket statements about Apple's overall product quality and threatening to stop buying Apple products really is of no help to anyone.

My guess is, it would be if you leave it sitting in the sun just because dark colors tend to absorb more radiant heat. But that does not say the internal heat would be affected as long as it isn't exposed to significant external heat. However, given the variety of reported heat conditions of the computers, I suspect it is as much a matter of how well the machine is taken care of as what color it is. And if you did not purchase the iPhone from an Apple Store, you will have to go back to the dealer from whom you purchased the iPhone and ask them if you can exchange the iPhone. The Apple Store would not accept a return of a product not purchased from them.

I recently had to change my apple id. I have 2 Iphones on one of them the user id still comes up as my old email adress and i can't get it to chage to my new Id. What do I need to do? Synching has not worked.

Purchases are tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with for eternity... or until Apple provides a way to change the ID.
Regardless, if you want to change the Apple ID the device is logged in with, Settings > Store > Select ID > Sign Out. Then sign in with the new ID.

Just got a 4s. Need Lion on my MBP for Cloud. Is Lion OK? Love Leopard don't want to change for the worse . . .

IE: to make the videos play consecutively in the order i want without stopping after each video and gong back to the list.... this is what i have had to resort to make it work....what i want to do....is be able to make a playlist of videos on my iphone 5....take my apple tv to friends houses and with wifi....set up apple tv and play videos at the party and not have to stand by with the remote and find a new video to play stopping the music between the songs/videos....very annoying....and have spent over 4 hours one day and an hour and a half today on the phone today with a sr. advisor with apple and they have no clue.... this seems sooooo simple.... please somebody that really knows how to do this....i will be indebted forever...............

According to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audiobooks-from-audible/id379693831?mt=8 it only requires iOS 5 or later and it is "optimized" for iPhone 5. I think it will likely work well on your iPhone 4.
