I have an iPhone 5 that started up in Chinese, and I can't get to settings as it is new

I can't get into the settings because it is a new phone, so I am at the startup phase.  I can't read what the startup is saying, because it is in Chinese.  I live in the United Arab Emirates, and purchased the phone from a reputable electronics store in Dubai Mall.  It has a legitimate serial number, and is not a fake.  I can ony guess it is set up for the "Asia" market, but I can't read the language to change it back to English (I'm American).
Please help!!!!!
