I have an iPod classic that syncs my entire library, I'd like to buy a smaller iPod, a nano maybe for the gym. Can I use the same library or do I need to set up a new library for the 2nd iPod? Is that possible? I mean for one to have 2 iTune librarys?

In other words, no. You don't need another iTunes Library for your new iPod
Another iTunes Library, that's only if someone elses music is mixed in with yours and you want to create another Windows user account with their music in it.
The iTunes Library is the master vault containing all your content, from there you create playlists or smart playlists specially tailored for the smaller iPod's storage requirements.
For instance if the iPod can hold only 2,000 songs, then you create a smart playlist based upon those rules/limitation. Plus what type of music you like.
You have a incredible degree of control with smart playlists, they update automatically so you only set the conditions for what goes into them. Including content from other created playlists and smart playlists.
Then, when you hook up the smaller iPod, it has it's own sync options, "all of your music and playlists" or "only select playlists"  So you use the second option to select just the smart playlist you tailored for the new iPod.
When you hook up the iPod Classic, only it's sync options are used, not the new iPod ones.
I hope I explained it better this time.

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!

  • 160 GB IPod will not sync my entire library

I own a 160 GB IPod Classic and it's been acting fine up until a few weeks ago. My total music/video library is 6621 songs, 32 music videos, 2 TV Shows, 14 movies which brings it as overall total of 6669 items in my library. I attempted to sync my IPod with newer songs that I recently purchased from Itunes and it would not sync, it actually told me that it did not recognize my IPod.
So, I ejected my IPod and reset the IPod. The music on it was totally erased and my IPod was empty. I then restarted my computer. I plugged it back up using a different USB port to resync. Once it got up to 4,170 or 30 GB of my library, it froze. I had to manually eject it. I did the Restore option on my IPod putting newer version software on it and it's still acting buggy.
My husband has an 80 GB IPod Classic and his syncs my entire library just fine without any problem. I can no longer listen to my IPod because it will not sync to my current library. It's no longer under product warranty because I purchased it back in 2009 so I just need to know if this can be resolved w/o me having to have it repaired at a high cost.

The most likely problem is a damaged source file, but you could try this technique for populating the iPod in stages.
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

Hello to all my readers.I am still using my Apple G4 1.25 Ghz MDD running Leopard 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 installed. Can I use an Phone 4s with iOS 5 with this set up? I have read the iPhone iOS 5 user guide and it appears that I can but is anybody actually doing it ? My current phone is a £10 Nokia and I've neither wish nor cash to spend more than a grand upgrading to an intel based machine (at the moment) ! Regards to you all.

If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone.

  • Everytime I sync, my entire library erases... HELP!

Everytime I purchase something new from the itunes store and go to add it to my itouch, it only adds the new item, then erases my entire library. I recently purchased a tv show and when I went to sync my Itouch, I got a notice saying it would erase everything else to add this one show. I get this message everytime I use itunes. How can I add new music and shows without having to re-sync my entire library everytime????
    PLEASE HELP!!!

You are using iTunes to place your songs on your iPod, yes?
You can have your library of music on any drive you wish. You just need to point iTunes to that new location in the Preferences.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

  • I purchased movies through iTunes and downloaded them to my PC as well as synced my entire library (including 'all films') to my iPad. However, I cannot seem to find / view the movies on my iPad unless 'Home Sharing' is on?

No. Homeshare let's you view your iTunes library or others on your network.
Movies should be in the video app on the home screen. If they are not there, then make sure when your iPad is plugged into iTunes on your computer...the video tab is checked to sync what you want..make sure you hit apply after. You should see the movies transferring to your iPad in the status bar on the top of iTunes.

  • I'd like to buy an iPhone 4S in France directly from the Apple Store, not from the operators. But, I will go back to my country, Thailand. So, I'm wondering to know that there is an INTERNATIONAL warranty for iPhone, and is it valid in Thailand (warranty)

I'd like to buy an iPhone 4S in France directly from the Apple Store, not from the operators. But, I will go back to my country, Thailand. So, I'm wondering to know that there is an INTERNATIONAL warranty for iPhone, and is it valid in Thailand (warranty). Would it be able to be claimed at the iStudio in Thailand?

There is NO International Warranty for the iPhone.  Your best bet is to purchase one in Thailand.  If you purchase a phone in France, you will NOT get warranty service on it in Thailand and will have to return it to France (or any EU country) for warranty service.

  • TS3683 Not enough space on my Mac HD to back up my iPad.   My iTunes library is on an external drive.  Can I use this same drive to Back yup my iPad?

I don't have enough space on my Mac HD to back up my iPad.   Actually, my iTunes library is on an external drive.  Can I use this same drive to Back up my iPad?

    1. First make sure iPhoto is not running. If it is, quit it. Use the Finder to copy your iPhoto Library file to your external drive. Unless you've changed it, its located inside your Pictures folder and is named "iPhoto Library".
    2. After the copy is complete, start iPhoto while simultaneously holding down the option key. iPhoto will bring up a dialog box. The file in the list is your existing Library on your internal disk. Click the "Other Library" button and navigate to your external drive. Select your freshly copied iPhoto Library file and click "Open". iPhoto will from now on open and work with this library on the external drive.
    3. After you've confirmed iPhoto is working properly with the newly copied library you may wish to delete the original library in your Pictures folder to recover the disk space.
Don't forget to keep a backup copy of your library on a separate disk. It's not a matter of "if" your external drive will fail but "when". You need to make regular backups or you'll be sorry someday.

  • Getting message saying my iPod Classic is synced to another library

I just bought this iPod classic last week and it's been synced to iTunes on my laptop twice now. Today I try and sync it and notice that the settings have changed. I try and change it from Manually Manage Music back to how it was and I get a message saying this iPod is connected to another iTunes library. Since I only have this one iTunes library on this one laptop I'm not sure why this is happening. Can anyone please help?

Hi Niel, thanks for your help - before i carry out the task can you confirm something for me. I have only one computer and as far as I know I have only one itunes on it, I have only upgraded it when i've been promted to. the link you sent me is talking about two computers - does this apply to me? sorry if this seems a silly question but I don't want to lose all the music from my ipod by hitting the wrong button! to confirm, all my music is on the ipod but has dissappeared from itunes (i can only see it when i connect the ipod, and then its faded and nothing happens when i click on it). how can i tell if i have another itunes library on my computer? many thanks.

  • I need to set up a new iTunes account. How can I get all my music from the old account on to the new one??? Thanks../

I have just bought an ipad 2 and wish to set up a new account as now I won't have to share with my sister. I want to get all the music off my current iTunes account & put it on to the ipad/new iTunes account. I'm not too sure how to do this though.... Please help lol :-) x

If you mean iTunes libraries or computer user accounts, just create one. To make a new iTunes library on Windows, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose Create Library.
If you mean iTunes Store accounts, click here and request assistance.
