I put a Griffin case on my daughter's iPod Touch 5 and now there is no sound coming from the speaker. There is sound when we use the headphones. Is there a mute function that I may have switched on and if so how do I turn it off?
It was a gift bought by her Godparents in January and I live in the islands so I can't just drive it back to the store to have them look @ it!
Called Apple Support and spoke to 2 people who seemed baffled and who could only suggest I reset the device. Who h has not helped.
HELP!!!!!!!- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Cracked ipod touch screen and it won't let me in or turn off. Tried to back it up and put on new ipod touch 5 and now it's not working and doing the same thing. I tried to restore to orginal but it won't let me any suggestions?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When the above says to restore via iTunes, restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup -

I reset iPod Touch (4G) and now everything is gone!
Hi all,
Last night, my iPod Touch (4th gen.) froze, which rarely happens, so I reset it. I probably didn't mean to do that, but that's what I did. Driving to work this morning, I see that there are no songs and no videos (I have about 3500 songs in my library). My apps are there and my emails are there.
I'm not worried if I can easily sync when I get home (everything's backed up and everything's in iTunes), but can someone tell me what happened? I thought a reset wasn't supposed to delete data. I'm a little worried.
Thanks for any help or comfort you can provide! If this was the reset you did:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Then it should not have deleted the music. However, the freezing may have been an indication that there is was something corrupt on the iPod. I would restore the iPod from backup. Make sure that auto-syncing when connected is turned off otherewise iTunes will make a new backup and delete the old one. -
I downloaded some songs to my ipod touch 5G and now headphones won't work properly.
So I bought some songs from Jessie J a couple of months ago and today I completed the album. After all the songs had downloaded I tried listening to them through my headphones, but no sound was coming through. I can get some sound if I twist them around, but the sound is not consistent. This is not happening with just the new songs, but old songs and other apps. Sound is working fine without the headphones plugged in. I have no problems like this before but the headphones are relatively new as I lost my previous pair. My ipod touch is about 5 months old.
What can be done to fix this? Any help or suggestions is appreciated.First confirm there is not a problem with the headphones
Then
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

i updated my ipod touch 32gigs (4G) and now all apps exept the defult apps wont work

thanks Joseph but it didnt work it is still doing the same thing should i mention that only the aps i have downloaded dont work. the defult apps stilll work like settings ect.
sorry but my computer wont let me replyOut of curiosity.
You downloaded one new app and that fixed all the rest of your apps?
Resetting your iPod Touch will not lose any data.
Only restoring may cause you to loose data.

Glad you got it fixed in the long run. -
Hi, Can anyone help. Updating my iPod via iTunes failed and now shows a permanently lit screeen witrh a white apple logo above what appears to be an empty download bar indicator.
Neither iTunes or my PC will recognise or detect it wehen commected to the USB port.
All iPod buttons are responsive, including diagnostics mode (Menu+Sleep buttons).
Any ideas/suggestions?Hi IIIaass
That's sorted it, thanks.
I don't think I actually managed to get it into DFU mode, although not too sure what that is, but following Karthik's advice and although not quite getting the response from my iPod, as it suggested, it eventually came up with the USB piccy and iTunes icon. From there on everything fell into place and it is currently Synching with iTunes after having done a restore.
Bravo !! -
I just tried to jailbreak my ipod and it wouldnt work so i just ended the whole thing and it erased all my photos and it wont play any music. How do i fix this?
The reason the alphabetical sections aren't showing is because you don't have enough songs. In order for them to show, you have to have a certain number of songs. ( I think it's 40 ).

How do you reset an ipod touch when it is still stuck in recovery mode?
how do you reset an ipod touch when it is still stuck in recovery mode?
Having the same problem. Plugged into the computer, iTunes doesn't connect to it. Plugged it into the wall and the low battery bar shows up but then it goes to the black/apple screen and stays there. The screen goes black and then when it pops back on again (on its own), the apple is still there. Won't hard restart either. Halp!

Placing your device into recovery mode
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes
