I have an iPod touch 4th gen 8 gb and ever since I got the iOS 6 update it has been slower and there appears to be less space and I am getting really frustrated any chance I can upgrade to the new 5 gen?
Ever since i got ios 6 it has been a slower and it says i only have 2 gb left when i have10 app and 0 songs. I got this iPod a few years ago so the warranty has already expired. Please if there is any way I can upgrade let me know.
Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. Sometimes when you update and do other things files will be corrupted and make the "other" category large. Restoring from backup usually reduce the other .
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

There is no supported method to "downgrade" iOS on any device. If you update, you will get the latest iOS for your device, which will be iOS 6.1.3. You cannot go backwards to iOS 4.3
If you have never backed up in either iCloud or iTunes, then upgrading to iOS 6.1.3 will involve restoring your device as part of the upgrade. Without a backup to restore from, you will loose everything that is on it.
You should first connect to iTunes with your computer, sync your device without upgrading and create an up to date backup of everything. Then use the upgrade option in iTunes to update your iOS.
However, if the dock device strictly requires iOS 4.3, it will not work, as you cannot downgrade iOS. There simply is no mechanism from Apple to do that. -
I have an iPod touch 4th gen that says that it is up to date with iOS 6.1.6. Is it possible to update to further or is it too old? I would like to get it up to iOS7. My games run slow and some of the newer games won't download on this version.
As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.

Try putting the brightness down all the way (its hard to see at first but you will get used to it) and one more thing is that close all you open apps. So to do that you have to click the home button twice (after you put your passcode in) and you will see some apps in the bottom. Hold it until there is a red - sign. click all of them so they go away. This does not delete your apps it just makes your ipod better.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Have you verified that it is the headphone jack that is the problem by trying opther sets of headphones?
Have you tried cleaning the jack by using a QTip or similar ite?
If you confirmed that the headphone jack is the problem Apple will ony exchange the iPod for $99, $149 or $1999 depending upon the capacity.
