I have an ipod touch, version 4.2.1 (it says this is the latest update) can I connect this to iCloud?
I have an ipod touch purchased in 2011, and now have a MacBook Pro, and an iphone4s. I want to connect this ipod to iCloud so that I can transfer the music to my new laptop and iPhone. Is this possible? Please help, I have been searching for a solution for a long time now
You can't use iCloud without iOS 5 or higher so you won't be able to use it on your iPod. Also, iCloud doesn't sync your music unless you subscribe to iTunes Match (see http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/). If you want to transfer music to your devices, import it to your iTunes library on your laptop, then sync it to your devices (See either http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12313 for Windows or http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113 if you have a Mac.)

I have an iPod Touch version iOS 4.2.1, 8 G capacity, and whenever iTunes tries to sync my iPod, I get an error message saying "Mobile Backup has encountered a problem and needs to close", and the sync fails. I have tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, and the same thing happens. What can I do to fix this problem?

I have an Ipod touch version 4.2.1 and the instructions do not detail how to update to iOS 5. Can you help me with step by step instructions.
iOS 4.2.1 suggests that you may have 2nd generation Touch, which cannot be updated past iOS 4.2.1
Check http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 for help in identifying your model. A quicker method may be to check the back casing. If your iPod has Model No.A 1288 etched into it, then it's a 2nd gen Touch.
Assuming that you are using the latest version of iTunes (today, that is 10.6.3), to check if your iPod can be updated, connect it to your iTunes and look on the Device/Summary pane. Select Check for Updates. If there is one, you will see a message telling you that and how to install it. However, if you see a message saying that your iPod is up-to-date, then it cannot be updated. -
I have an iPod touch 3rd generation with IOS 4.2.1 and the newest version of iTunes. However, when I press "check for updates" it says that IOS 4.2.1 is the current version. How do I update?
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
Identifying iPod models
iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318. -

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

If not successful, try DFU mode.

I have an iPod Touch 4g with 4.1 software, but it takes forever to update the software, how can I speed up the process?
Nothing you can do. Presently the Apple servers are overloaded because of iOS 6.

Got a black screen on the iPod Touch 4th Generation. Tried restoring it and holding the lock and hold buttons but this didnt work. Do i need a brand new screen?
If you successfully restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Could be the screen or something else.

mine is ipod touch 1st generation..its very hard to find the accessories, where can i find it? and some application couldnt work, for example: nike+
What "accessories" are you looking for?
The Nike+ app now requires iOS 4, and since that version of iOS won't run on a 1st-generation iPod touch, you will not be able to run that app.

What is the current software version for an older ipod Touch? We have 4.2.1, which Apple Store says is not the latest.
ThxiOS 4.2.1 is the latest and last version for the 2nd-generation iPod touch. If iTunes isn't showing any further updates for your iPod, I'm guessing that's the model you have. You can confirm here:

how can I get my music from my iPod touch version 4.2 to the cloud so I can listen to it on my iPad or computer? I tried a manual transfer from iTunes but that doesn't work.
- For iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
- For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

If I have an ipod touch and justpurchased an ipod, do I use the same apple ID or do I create a new one for each device?
Keep the same apple id. By all means. I tunes will recognize the different devices, and you can share or not share whatever you want.
The kiss of death is multiple apple ids. -
I have an iPod Touch and an iPad4. iTunes recognises both items and lets me work with the iPod Touch but won't work with the iPad. In fact iTunes does not respond to clicking on anything in the iPad window even though it knows that it's connected. Any ideas?
Look her and it may give insite on what is missing. Otherwise:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99. Likely not worth it for a your iPod. They do not fix yours.
