When you physically connect the mac to a projector (which is turned on), it should automatically detect the projector and configure itself. This can take a second or two.
System Preferences, Displays will provide you with a few options on how the external display will behave (e.g., mirrored).
In the Display preferences if you press the option key a button "Detect displays" will appear which will allow you to manually force the computer to connect to a display.

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit. -

hi Leonie, I've downloaded it from AppStore, unfortunately.
If it is the Mac App Store, then Carolyn Samit's solution is perfect. Sign into the App Store on your MacBook Air with the original AppleID you used and install Aperture from the Purchased page.
But If you bought a serial number and downloaded from the Apple Store, then you cannot download an installer from Apple's sites. In that case your best bet would be to update your current version to Aperture 3.5.1 if you are still using an older version. Updating to 3.5.1 will change your license to a Mac AppStore license, and you can download from the AppStore on your other Mac.
Which Aperture version do you have installed? Are you already using Aperture 3.5.1 on MacOS X 10.9.3? -
My Macbook air has had to have the mother board replaced twice. It is starting to malfunction again -- it frequently freezes when I am on the internet. The screen also pixelates when I go from one page to another. The warranty is expired. Any recommendations?

How long has it been since the last logic board replacement? Was the previous repair(s) done by Apple directly or via an authorized service provider? If you're on MLB #3 and you're still seeing the same or very similar problems, I'd contact the place that did the service last, especially if it was in the past 90 days.
When you get a repair done through Apple, even if the machine is out of warranty, the service (and parts) carry a 90-day limited warranty. From my experience, Apple is often times flexible on this window as well especially if it's been a repeated repair. -

This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Macbook air, which external HD to use?
Hello all,
Here is the solution I want but i don't know what device to use.
Im looking to buy a macbook air, and a thunderbolt bolt display an ~2TB external HDD.
Now I have a large HD video collection which naturally will have to be stored on the external HHD due to small SSD on the macbook air. Now what worries me is the transfer speeds I want something thats transfers fast. Idealy I would like the hard drive to be either thunderbolt or usb 3.0 connected into the thunderbolt display, then i could connect the one thunderbolt cable to the air when i dock it, and bobs your uncle.
Now the more difficult bit. What if i also wanted this HHD to be wireless, so I could use the machine say on my lap in bed, and still be able to transfer files to and from the HDD, and the apple TV will also be referencing it to play the files stored on it. I know the transfer speeds at this point wouldn't be as great as the wired connection but thats ok as this would only be on the odd occasion.
Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? or have you got any suggestions?Both thunderbolt AND wireless. That's alot to ask,especially when you realize that there are but a handful of Thunderbolt drives yet available.
If you want both blazing fast, and wireless capability, I don't see how it could be practically done with one volume. I mean, you could use a Thunderbolt drive, that also has USB capability, then alternately connect such drive to your network drive enabled wireless router, or directly to your MBA by the thunderbolt connection, but it seems like a bit of a hassle.
I use both the Seagate GoFlex w/T-bolt adapter and the LaCie Little Big Disk (thunderbolt), to get really fast external storage. I prefer the Seagate solution, for flexibility reasons (and cost). I mean, I can actually connect a bare SSD to the Seagate Thunderbolt adapter and get transfer rates that rival the internal drive (in excess of 450 MB/second). That is smoking fast. Seagate has a 7200 RPM GoFlex portable drive, that when connected to the T-Bolt adapter, provide a very reasonably priced (in relative terms), fast drive setup. You could easily connect the same drive to the included USB 3.0 adapter, and then hook it to your network drive enabled router, for wireless operation. -

Water + electronics do not mix. Something was damaged insode, and the logic board may be corroding as is.
Take it to a Genius Bar for an evaluation and repair estimate.

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display. The display will run without it.

I have a macbook air bought in 2008 and am unsure if it can be upgraded to maverick. Is there a serial number beyond which it is possible to upgrade? I know that first I need to upgrade to mountain lion or some other fierce cat.

I have a MacBook Air 13 , mid 2009 & am trying to get it to show power point on a projector, I have the correct plug. Do I have to push some keys to fire up the projector ? Kevin
The short answer is no. You will, however need to fire up the projector manually, and then change the input for the projector (if it hasn't already) to that of the computer. Once the projector is fired up and displaying an image of the screen of your computer, simply start the powerpoint as you normally would, since the projector will mirror your screen. If you will be talking for long periods of time without pressing any keys, or advancing the presentation, you might want to change the energy saver preferences to stop the computer from going to sleep as fast as it would. Does all this help?
