I have an old ipod that i am giving to my dad. I want to put it on my dad computer with an itunes account of his own but it wont sync. How do i sync it with his computer and his own account?

I have an old iPod that has all of my music and use my personal computer to keep iTunes on and store all of my music. Recently my old computer died and had to get a new computer. I got my iTunes restores on my new computer and see all of my music, but when I tried to sync up my old iPod (love it!), I ended up erasing all of my playlist. BTW - Somehow I was able to restore my iPod back to Factory Settings.

There are lots of ideas floating on the web for this particular issue - all of which I tried. I had the same problem and it turned out to be my USB cable. I thought the cable was fine as it would charge my phone and play but the data transfer pin was bent. I replaced the cable and it fixed the problem. Worth a shot as it is an easy fix!

In iTunes, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.
There should be a checkbox that says Enable disk use. Check it and Apply the change. It should now appear in Windows, when the iPod is connected.
NOTE: When Disk Use is enable, you have to eject the iPod (in iTunes) before physically disconnecting it from computer.

If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:
Disabled Recovery-must use syncing computer.
Otherwise y will have to restore and thus erase the iPod
You can restore from backup
If not in backup then:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.

I accidently put my old 2nd generation Ipod nano through the washer a few years ago. Well after that it would no longer work do to water damage. After a while i got a new Ipod (the same type) and was able to get new songs to put on it and what not. Well i was playing around with the one i washed opne day and found that i could still restore it on iTunes. However, it wont let me restore it without losing all of my music and what not that i got for the new one. I would like to continue to use the old one, but I am afraid of losing all of my current stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can restore the old and keep the new? Apple normally does not get involved in handling lost objects like this. Since a real name is not installed it will be much more difficult.
You can try contacting Apple support at the US number, assume you are US going to BWI from the listing: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and explain the situation and see if they offer any suggestions.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
