Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen. is stuck on white screen of death.

I recentally had dropped my ipod touch and when i picked it up it was stuck on the white screen of death. I tried to hard restart by holding down the power and home button at the same time, but the screen would only turn off then come right back on. Then i let the power drain. After it would no longer turn on i put it on the charger to find that the white screen would pop right back up. I didnt want to restore it but because its my only option i put it on my compute but itunes couldnt acess it because i had a passcode on it. is there a differnt way to restore it or fix it?  HELLLPPP MEEEE!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Try when connected to another network
    - Update via iTunes on a computer.

  • I have an iPod touch 4th gen that says it is up to date with iOS 6.1.6 can't I update it any further?

I have an iPod touch 4th gen that says that it is up to date with iOS 6.1.6. Is it possible to update to further or is it too old? I would like to get it up to iOS7. My games run slow and some of the newer games won't download on this version.

As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • I have an ipod touch 4th Gen that everything was working perfectly. After the last update of iOs5, the battery have charge 20 minutes. Even after the correction of the iOS 5.0.1 the battery have the same 20 minutes. What I can do?

    Hi
I have an ipod touch 4th Gen that everything was working perfectly. After the last update of iOs 5, the battery have charge 20 minutes. After the correction of the iOS 5.0.1 the battery have the same 20 minutes. What I can do? Thanks

Same thing here. Try putting the brightness down all the way (its hard to see at first but you will get used to it) and one more thing is that close all you open apps. So to do that you have to click the home button twice (after you put your passcode in) and you will see some apps in the bottom. Hold it until there is a red - sign. click all of them so they go away. This does not delete your apps it just makes your ipod better.

    Hey Babetta94,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, the iPod is not recognized in iTunes. A frustrating situation to be sure. You haven't mentioned what OS the computer you are using uses. You can choose what article to use either OS X or Windows from this quoted section.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen froze! blank white screen and doesn't respond when turned off, or connected to my laptop

my ipod touch 4th gen froze! only blank white screen and doesn't respond when turned off or connected to my laptop!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

The problem being; this iPod was never set up with a computer.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer/any computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • I have and iPod Touch 1st gen that iTunes 10.6.1 can't see.

I just cleared the memory on it and restored factory settings. Now when I connect to iTunes 10.6.1 nothing happens. The iPod tells me to connect to iTunes but iTunes does not see the iPod. I tried turning the ipod off then holding down the home button while connecting the sync cable. A graphic popped up telling me to connect to iTunes but nothing else. I tried this again and waited for over half an hour and still nothing connected. The cable is fine, I know this because I have connected other devices using it. Help please!
I am running osx 10.7.3 on an i7 iMac.

Thanks Illaass, I tried this a couple of times and it didn't help at all. I think is I hadn't done a factory reset it might have worked but right now the ipod is acting like a new device that that itunes doesn't recognize.

  • I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen. that refuses to sync with iCloud calendar. The calendar on my iPod doesn't even show an "add an event" icon! Any suggestions??

Since upgrading to iOS 5 and Lion, my iPod 4 calendar has become unusable. It will not sync with iCloud or my Macbook Pro. Suggestions?

Yes. I have already been through every online suggestion on the Tech Support page for iCloud. VERY frustrated at present.

  • I have a ipod touch 3rd gen that has been working fine until a week ago.  I usually charge it using a power adapter in the house or using a car power adaptor.  All of a sudden neither will charge my ipod.  It does charge is I connect to computer.

I have tried different cords.  Other Ipods charge fine.  I have rebooted the Ipod.  I don't know what else to do.

    Hi,
    Try resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
If that doesn't work, try restoring it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.
If all else fails, you will have to place your iPod in Recovery Mode:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod touch 4th gen that wont charge or show up in itunes.

I have an iPod touch 4th gen. that wont charge. When I plug it in, it shows the battery with a little red at the one end and a lighting bolt ( the usual screen when charing the itouch after it is completely dead). I have left it in pluged in for a few hours but it never actually charges. Also when I plug it into my computer Itune won't recongnize it. The cords work fine I tested them with my other Ipods and everything worked liked normal. I have tried to restart it by holding the power and home button together but that doesn't seem to help either (again probably because it is dead). Thanks for the help.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
