I have a single Pixel that is broke on my 2 month old retina macbook pro. I have Apple care. What will Happen if I bring it to an apple store.

You can try to see if they will replace it, however there is some sort of acceptable amount of stuck pixels and they won't replace so I hear.
But that was a long time ago and things change.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
To the best of my knowledge you cannot currently buy movies via the Apple TV 2. You certainly can't here in the UK, where rental is the only option for all available content.
It's my understanding that US customers can purchase TV shows, but I don't believe they can currently purchase movies

  • Have Apple prevented uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes?

Im getting lost in the maze of help topics... Can anyone tell me if I can retrieve my iTunes library from my iPod? My laptop recently fried so I bought a new one, however I now have no back-up library for what's already on my iPod...
Have Apple actually prevented the user from uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes library??!

Have Apple actually prevented the user from uploading what's on an iPod to an empty iTunes library??!
It was (and still is) only ever possible to transfer iTunes purchases from iPod to iTunes. However, there are ways of transferring other non Tunes purchases. Read on.
Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I opened my Mac to upgrade it and broke something near the optical bay drive. I don't have apple care, can I bring it to geek squad? Or will Apple fix it? How much?

HELP! I broke something in my MacBook Pro by opening it up and trying to upgrade my optical bay drive to an SSD and my RAM and broke a cable near the optical bay drive. I bought it from best buy and my step dad was too stubborn when we first purchased it to buy best buy care or the apple care. Will Apple fix it? Will geek squad fix it? How much would it cost? Also my battery is starting to give out before this. I have taken the cable out that connects the battery to the motherboard and that worked, but how much would that cost to? I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 13"

Even had stubborn stepdad bought AppleCare, it would not have covered damages caused by your mucking about inside the unit.
As we are all end-users like you and not professional computer repair peple, we can't estimate prices, especially if we don't know what broke.

  • After update to 5.0.2, Apple TV can no longer see 802.11n WiFi networks

    Dear all,
since the last update to Software 5.0.2, my Apple TV has been unable to see 802.11n/5Ghz WiFi networks, which worked fine prior to the update. Has anybody experienced this problem and found a solution to it? The device connects fine to other types of networks, but my main network is not even listed in the list of available networks, and can't be found by searching by name....
    Thanks in advance,
    Brendan

PS I'm also having problems with Home Sharing dropping the connection, which I never had with the previous software versions

  • Now that I have backed up, can I delete items from my desktop? One of the reasons I got the time capsule was so that I could free up some space on my computer. I am confused about whether the backup will one day remove my photos/video

I purchased a 2TB time capsule yesterday. I set it up as a router and did the backup no problem. I then navigated the backup folder and found that all my photos/video that I am nervous about losing are on there. So far so good.
Taking a step back, the reason I bought the time capsule was 1.) I needed a router 2.) I have a mac and 3.) I am running out of disk space on that mac (I shoot and cut a lot of video and have years of high quality pictures on my mac hard drive)
Can I now delete them from my mac computer to free space? I have used standard external disk drives in the past, but the whole "Back Up" piece of things has me confused. I love the idea of backing up my computer so I want to keep that functionality, but will the drive still function as a static external hard drive? Or do I need to move that material in seperately as a folder outside of the backup folder?
I am nervous that if the backup overwrites information as the disk space becomes limited that in 10 years when I fill this drive up, that I will lose all of my photos that are part of the backups that I am running now.....
Or worse, I am nervous that if I remove things from my mac right now, that the next time that a back up is performed that it will lose this data as it is not currently on the device I am backing up? How does this work?
I apologize, the back up is a very new concept to me and I want to make sure I do not goof anything up.

That's an entirely different thing from backups.  A backup is an extra copy, in case the original is lost or damaged.   Additional space is just that -- more space for originals.
While it's possible to use the same disk (such as the TC's internal HD) for both things, it's dangerous -- when (not if) something happens to the TC, you risk losing the originals that are on it.   To be safe, you need (at least) two copies of everything important, in (at least) two different places.
Many (including me) recommend at least three copies (originals plus 2 backups).  While it's not common for the Mac's hard drive to fail about the same time as the backup drive, it does happen.  There are several threads here where it did, and very expensive data recovery was needed, but in some cases everything was lost.
So as the others recommend, getting an external HD for the stuff there isn't room for on your Mac is one solution for not having enough space.  But you might explore getting a larger internal HD.   If possible, that might be bettter.
Then, also get another external, for "secondary" backups, so you're doubly protected.  If you get a portable model, you can take it offsite for even better protection.  See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details and some suggestions.
Can I now delete them from my mac computer to free space? I have used standard external disk drives in the past, but the whole "Back Up" piece of things has me confused.
You're not the first or only one.
There are different types of backup apps, so there are different answers for the different types.
As the others have posted, Time Machine will, sooner or later, delete it's backup copies of things that are no longer on your system.  Depending on how long the original was there and when backups were run, that can be in as little as 24 hours, or as long as there's room.   So no, don't take the chance with data that's important!
Is there helpful information on how to add an external drive to your backup set up?
See the green box in #2 of the FAQ article.  All you have to do is format it for a Mac and remove it from the exclusion list.
Once I set it up, will I need to leave the hard drive plugged into my mac in order for the data to be backed up?
It can only be backed-up while it's connected.
If I do, and a back up is performed without the hard drive attached to my computer, will it remove the backup of  what was on the hard drive
No (unless you leave it disconnected until Time Machine starts deleting old backups).
It will back up the external when it's connected, and not complain if it isn't.

  • How can I set up my Apple TV and iPhoto on my iMac so Apple TV can display pictures from iPhoto as a normal slideshow or as a Screen Saver?

I have an iMac and an Apple TV that is connected to the main iTunes library on the iMac.  My Apple TV is able to find all the music, videos and pictures that are on the iMac's internal hard drive - presumably via iTunes (music and videos) and directly accessing the Pictures folder.  So far, so good!
Recently, I have had to move a lot of my pictures to an external hard drive - and I had hoped that by 'importing' them into iPhoto (without physically duplicating them on the internal drive), I can still have my Apple TV "find" these pictures via iPhoto - and allow me to browse them as before or use them in my screen-saver.
However, while I can see them in iPhoto, my Apple TV seems to be unable to find them - and I am unable to see them on my TV.
So, is this even supported by Apple TV/ iPhoto?  Is there some configuration I am missing?  Or do I just need to boot up everything from scratch?  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you.
    Mahesh

Thanks - I did not realize that Homesharing can be specifically set to a photo destination like that!
So, it would appear that I can either point it to iPhoto (and folders/ events within that) OR the default Pictures folder and subfolders of that OR any other specific folder (and subfolders of that) of my choice.  However, I cannot select BOTH the default Pictures folder (and some subfolder of that) AND a folder in iPhoto AND/ OR an event/ folder in iPhoto.  Is that a correct assumption?
If so, the only way I see getting homesharing to get both set of pictures is to get all my picture folders (internal and external drive based) into iPhoto (without physically duplicating them) - and then pointing Homesharing to iPhoto, right?
I think you have solved my issue - but I just want to be sure of that.
    Thanks a ton!

  • 2.1 - can no longer see who has texted

Its really annoying that on 2.1 you can no longer see who has texted unless you open the SMS screen. Another backward step, along with the dreadful battery life, rubbish camera etc etc

If you are using a passcode for your phone, it will only show a new text. That was a change that came with the 2.1 software. If you aren't using a password, then you should be able to see the complete message.
Indeed, and if my memory serves me right this feature was requested by many users. I agree, Apple has a lot of things to do (MMS, more configuration for message alerts etc) but I don't think they should be criticized when they finally do listen to users. (Such as the OP did.)

  • MSI GeForce 9800 gt after updating the driver can't see the whole desktop

I have a MSI GeForce 9800gt, and I've tried to update the driver. After update I can no longer see the whole desktop, I have to move the mouse to the edge of the screen to see the rest, it's like there is a zoom or something.
The driver that came with the CD works fine, but any other driver give's me the same problem. I've tried with v.191.07, v.178, v.258.96, v.306.81 and a few other. I've also reinstall the windows but with no better results (I'm using Windows XP Pro).
         Please help. Thank you.

Thanks for the quick replay, so :

Did you try to set the correct resolution for your screen after updating?
Yes, I've tried different resolutions, the only resolution where I see the whole desktop is 800x600. I even try to change the refresh rate to something lower then 60Hertz(I've read on a forum that a refresh rate of 51 or 59 might solve the problem) but no luck.

clean old drivers with >>Driver Fusion<< in Safe Mode 1st,

I've tried this as well, I even try with a fresh install of windows, I've bought a new SSD for my system disk, so I have reinstall the windows.

Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • The folder "com.apple.TCC" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents.

I've noticed a folder with a 'no access' sign on it's bottom right corner - com.apple.TCC - and when i try to open it it says "The folder “com.apple.TCC” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents."
Does anyone know what this is and why i can't access it? No-one else uses this macbook but me.
Also, as of this afternoon, I can't two finger scroll on any web browser?
    Thanks.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
You don't need to install iTunes for the purchase history. You can see it in your iPad (iTunes > Purchased), but you need to install it if you want the order numbers
