  • Don't have full screen view since changing to 19 inch screen. Have about 2 inches of white space on each side. Changed to compact view and then back. No change

I got a larger monitor and flat screen (19 inch). Since changing I am not getting a full screen view of home page. I changed the page options to compact view and then back, but no change. I've got about 2 inches of white on each side of the home page view.

When going to a website the picture was small - tried changing the Zoom size , tried Zoom Reset - the text did change size but the layout distorts - found under View - Zoom - Zoom Text Only was checked --- Removed this check mark and the website returned to normal size and Zoom worked normally again. I am 99.9999% sure I did NOT check this myself and there is no one else on the computer to cause it. Maybe this will help.

  • I have loaded video from vas tape to dvd and now want to rip chapters to put on another dvd.  When I rip I get large black borders on each side.  I am a novice what can I d? thanks

chapters and write them to a new dvd.  The problem is that I get a large black border on each side.  What can I do? thanks

Sounds like you have standard definition material in a 4:3 format that you have put in a 16:9 project.
The solution is to change your project aspect ratio to 4:3
Recognize you will still have the black bars (called pillarboxing) when you play the material on a 16:9 TV. (The DVD player will generate them.)

  • Black margins down each side of my screen, so reduced screen size, can anyone help please?

I have 2 black margins down each side of the viewable sceen, I've tried going in to 'full screen mode' but all tha happens is that I lose my footers and headers, the screen view still remains long and narrow rather that filling the screen top to bottom and sise to side. Can anyone help please?

I think the reason your screen looks like this is because the screen was somehow scaled differently in System Preferences. To fix this open up the System Preferences app and click on "Displays". Next click on "Scaled" and make sure it says "1280 x 800" or the top one in the list so it should look like this:
    Then that's it.
If this doesn't work try restarting your MacBook Pro or resetting the SMC or PRAM.
    Hope this helps,

  • Have 1-inch black border on each side monitor - how do I get back to full screen?

Have a one-inch black border each side of screen, can't move out to full screen horizontally?

Check that you have selected the correct screen resolution for your Mac in System Preferences>Displays. Depending on OS it's either 'Best for built-in display' or the top one on the list of screen resolutions.

  • After downlaoding sims 3 my screen won't fill completely anymore, like there are two black areas on each side of my screen

Before I did have the game and my screen was fine and there were no problems and now there are. Plus whenever I close my computer with the game on it makes a loud screeching noise.

nevermind, I resolved this issue. If any of you have this problem like this though just go to settings then displays and hit best for resolution

  • Why is there suddenly a one inch black margin on each side of my MB Pro?

Suddenly there is this black, one inch margin running down both sides of my view screen. How do I get out of it? It just appeared this morning when I turned my laptop on. Can't find anything in preferences that would eliminate it. tx!

Is System Preferences > Displays set to the native resolution of your display (the top one in the list)? Else, try a PRAM reset:

  • I have 2 inches of empty space on both sides of the screen on all websites when using firefox. How do I get webpages to fill the screen?

All my webpages on firefox have about 2 inches of empty space on both sides of the screen, but on Internet Explorer there is much less empty space or mostly none at all. How do i fix this?

I can't make out from your low-res screenshot what those gray images in the menu at the left are, but I do not see them and there is nothing int the page source that accounts for them.

  • I want to put an image in my movie so that it will fill in the black edges on the sides. How do I do this?

I have a standard definition video I put into iMovie and set it to "Fit" so that it did not cutoff the top and bottom. Now I have black bars on each side. I am going to create an image, or two if need be, to cover those black edges. I cannot figure out how to insert those image and have it not picture in picture, greenscreen, or cutaway.

Try this extension to set a favicon to a bookmark.

  • I have a very tiny, fuzzy black speck on the screen of my Macbook Pro 15".

I have a very tiny, fuzzy black speck on the screen of my Macbook Pro 15". It doesn't resemble dead pixels I've encountered in the past (it is only visible behind a white or brightly colored background), and I'm positive it isn't sitting on the surface. The computer is only a year and a half old and my software is up to date.

    Hi austinbread,
It is hard to tell exactly what your issue with the MacBook Pro’s display is, but it is possible that there is a pixel anomaly. See this article for further information -

  • Is there a setting for iphone 4 to have the screen dim to black while on a call?

is there a setting for iphone 4 to have the screen dim to black while on a call?

If you put the phone to your ear, the proximity sensor darkens the display automatically. If you are just holding the phone in your hand or something similar, the proximity sensor is not activated.

  • Black display, Mavericks install on Mac Pro (Mid 2010)?

I have a FireWire 800 HDD with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 installed, and I zeroed out my primary startup disk to install Mavericks fresh.
However, after selecting the newly-formatted HDD, and letting go through the "preparing" phase, my display went black and it won't wake up.
I'm a registered developer and used every beta since the first one, and had no problems until today.
    Help?

ECC DIMMs are required. If you could get a non-ECC DIMM to fit, it would shut off memory error correction, one of the best features of the Mac Pro with Xeon Processor.
Replacement DIMMs MUST have a large heatsink and Apple approved temperature sensor, because Apple reduces the airflow (based on measured temperatures) for quiet performance. Other manufacturers do not necessarily do this, and if you do not have the correct heatsinks and temperature sensors, the fans may run at full speed, or the DIMMs may die prematurely from overheating.
You can upgrade the DIMMs on each side (group of four slots) by the each. Pairs are not required. Most DIMMs 8GB and under mix readily with others, but some do not. Try the new ones by themselves first, so that you know first whether they work at all, then whether they "play nice with others".
You can spend the next month learning about exactly which DIMMs will and which will not work in your Mac. I do not recommend you do this for a one-off purchase. Instead, buy from a Mac-Centric Vendor who can tell YOU what DIMMs should be used in your Mac, and will stand by them:
    "It works in your Mac,
    or your money back."

  • Satellite A100 - black display at start-up

Since two days my Toshiba A100-495 laptop / model-no. PSAA9E-18F047GR / serial-no. Y6065357Q with Windows XP SP3 shows a black display at start-up. There is even no Windows start picture.
The laptop does all the booting, but after finishing and being ready for use, the display is still black. When I am pressing Fn + F5 keys, the desktop appears.
The black screen is only at cold start-up after shut-down, not at awakening from stand-by or pause.

I have connected an external monitor (power ON) to the shut-down notebook, then started the notebook.
There was nothing to see neither on notebook monitor nor on external monitor black screen as before. After the booting was done, the desktop appears after pressing Fn+F5 for about three seconds.
I have not jet tried to change BIOS settings because there is no Toshiba splash screen on start-up. I am afraid I can not see what is going on or what I have to choose after accessing BIOS without display signs.

  • I have a 1/2" gray/black line on the left of my screen. Sometimes blinks. How do I get rid of it?

I have a 1/2" gray/black bar on the left of my screen that blinks occasionally.  HOw can I get rid of it?

That suggests a GPU, display or display connection issue.  You will have to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them examine the MBP.  They should be able to determine exactly what the problem is.  Take a picture of the display when this phenomenon occurs to show the technician in case you are unable to duplicate it.
    Ciao.
