I have ATV first gen

I have an ATV first generation & since the Fall/Jan of this year the speed to download a movie has gone from 10 mins to 2-3 hours, but usually takes 1 hr.  I did everything that people suggested; restarted, did all the updates for my iMac, iTunes, & ATV, factory reset, unplugged the ATV, it's on the right network, it is listed under Devices in iTunes, but still takes an hour.  I went to Apple Store and they could only suggest it has to do with it being First Gen.  Anyone else having this issue with any of the ATV's?  Any suggestions?  Oh, my internet hasn't changed either so count that out too.  Also the power light doesn't come on anymore either, but everything works.  Strange.

The power lights tend to fade on these models, all mine have become quite faint.
How do you know your internet hasn't changed, can you be sure your ISP hasn't introduced some sort of filtering, and what about your internal network could there be a new network in the vicinity that is now interfering with yours.

  • YouTube not working on atv first gen

YouTube videos on my atv first gen is not working just recently. Before it never had any problems, I could log in into my account, search videos and when I select to watch, nothing happens. Tried restoring to factory settings and all the usual troubleshooting and no success. My guess is something related to apple. Any suggestions to find a solution?

It appears as if only some videos on YouTube will play using HTML5 and without Flash. For example, this video plays just fine for me and I do not have flash installed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxEWddT44BY
So, unfortunately, you will have to install flash or wait for YouTube to fix their website.
Also, one thing to try: When I had Flash installed and the "ClickToPlugin" Safari extension installed, YouTube would load all the movies in a simple HTML5 format. So no annotations or any other annoying stuff. Might be worth trying. You will have to install flash but, with the "ClickToPlugin" extension, you don't have to use Flash.

Can't seem to find an IPAD that let's me control my playlists together...or let's me organize my videos (Karaoke) the way I want to.  Can someone help or direct me?
    Can't even find the old IPad for sale...I have a MB292LL with 4.3.2 (8H7)

    Here is a hint, google:
    ipad video playlists
    Found:
    This discusses some options.
iOS 7 took away the ability to play videos continuously.
    Two stand-alone apps.

There was a hint of relabeling your videos to music video so you can use the itunes video playlists.
    I have not tried this.

  • I have a first gen iPad, and it will randomly go home from the Internet when I don't press any button.  I have a wireless connection at home.

I have a first gen iPad, and it will randomly go home from the Internet when I don't press any button.  I have a wireless connection at home.  Is this a known bug?  What can I do?

You maybe running low on memory since you are using the original iPad with iOS 5.1.1 and the iPad is crashing. This may help and it certainly won't hurt.
Quit all apps completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Do this before you launch Safari again. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data. You don't have to clear the history.

Have a first gen iPad with 4.3 IOS. Can't download version 5.1 because iTunes 11.1 need to be downloaded. Cannot download version of iTunes. " errors occured while installing updates. if the problem persists choose tools>download only and try installing manually". This is as far as I can get. Can't find tools to manually download. When I try to reset to factory settings, I get an error also.

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • I have a first gen ipod which is being recalled, and after going thru the process of registering my ipod I did not receive a barcode to send my old ipod back to apple with.  I wasn't sure if apple would send me some packaging to return the ipod.

I have a first generation ipod nano which is being recalled, and after going thru the registration process was meant to get a barcode to send the old nano back with but it was blank.  In the registration process it also mentioned about apple sending out packaging to return the old ipod.  Just wondering if anyone has been thru this process and can offer advice?

Yes they will send you a box with return label. I have been waiting for a month for a box. Just got off the phone with customer service and they said it would be another 3-4 weeks before I receive a box for replacement. Once I send it in it will take another 6 weeks to get the replacement after they receive it. I also hear it a 1st gen nano that will be the replacement.Apple says they were overwhelmed by the response to the recall.  Looks like they dropped the ball when they have to spend the money!

  • Advantages of ATV First Gen vs Second Gen?

I have received both a first and second generation Apple TV. I am wondering if there are any advantages to keeping the first generation and the second generation; if it is even possible to hook both up at the same time. Does the first gen offer any advantages to the second?

I have both, they each have their advantages but overall I prefer the Apple TV.
It has it's own hard drive, so there is no need to keep a computer running, it has much better organisation of your own content and your own content is more intuitively incorporated into its interface, and you can purchase content from the Apple TV itself.
The second generation has new features such as Airplay, it's much smaller and more energy efficient.
We tend to use the older model where we watch more in a family orientated setting, ie where we watch movies together etc. The second generation model is located in places like the kitchen where we don't end to watch a lot of movies but use it for viewing photos and video taken on the phone and short videos in our iTunes libraries and you Tube etc.

  • I have a first gen Imac G5 20"   What is the proper airport card for this unit?  It didn't come with one

Can anyone tell me which wifi card will best support a first gen G5 20" imac?  I am trying to get my grandson's computer on a wifi net

So it should be this model
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac_g5_1.8_20.html
It has USB 2.0 and can run up to Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8), so I think the best option is to use a USB WiFi adapter.  For example
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/MXP2802NU2C/
I have an earlier version of the above product connecting my Power Mac G5 to my wireless network.  It actually has the "official" internal AirPort card, but it is only 802.11g (like the one for your iMac G5) and has less less range, so it is turned off.  The USB adapter goes up to 802.11n.

  • I have a first gen. ipod i turned it on and then it shut itself back off. Now wont go past the apple screen what happend?

My first gen.ipod shut off by itself and won't get past the first apple screen. When I turn it on the apple screen comes up then it shuts back off.

    You should do a DFU.
    Steps to DFU
Turn your device off. Press and hold the Power button until the Power slider appears. Slide it to the right to turn the device off. Wait for your device to completely power down before continuing.
    Plug into your Computer.
Press the Power button. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
Press the Home button. After the first 3 seconds, press and hold the Home button while continuing to hold the Power button. Do this for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button. After exactly 10 seconds of holding both buttons, release the Power button but continue holding the Home button. After a few seconds, a message will appear in iTunes letting you know that the device has been detected. The device’s screen will remain blank if done successfully.
Then you should restore it and put all your info back.
*Make sure you back it up before you do this*

  • ATV first gen not streaming with computer.

I cant get my atv to stream video with my mac. On atv i go to 'computers' then 'add shared library'. It gives me the code but then there is nowhere to imput the code on itunes. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

If you're saying tht iTunes is already configured to sync with the 1st gen unit then you do not need to (and cannot) set it up as a Shared library.
Basically the sync library, also streams any content that is not synced to the AppleTV.
If this is not happening, and the AppleTV is currently listed as a sync device under Devices in iTunes, then select thisdevice entry and in the summary tab look for 'Show only synced items' or similar and make sure it's not checked - if checked you only see what's on the AppleTV hard drive, but if unchecked which it should be by default, then anything not on AppleTV hard drive will stream PROVIDED iTunes is running and the media is compatible. In the main iTunes categories if checkboxes are unchecked against individual media filesthey will not be made available to AppleTV.

I have a  iPad, 32g, and for no apparent reason, the screen goes black and whatever app I am using is closed on me. It seems to be happening more and more frequently, especially when loading apps, or trying to watch a YouTube video. I try to open safari or youtube again and it will often crash several times before it may or may not decide to load for me. It is extremely annoying and getting to the point where I can not use it

Standard troubleshooting steps in order are as follows:
Power the iPad off and on.
An iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPad with iTunes from your iPad's backup.
Restore your iPad with iTunes as a new iPad or not from your iPad's backup.
If no change after the last step, your iPad has a hardware problem.
