I have authorised my iPad, but I'm not permitted to use the same ID on my laptop

Hi there,
I downloaded the OverDrive Media Console app to my iPad in order to download eBooks from my local library. I authorised the app (OMC integrates Adobe Digital Editions) and successfully downloaded a couple of eBooks. I then went home to authorise Adobe Digital Editions on my PC using the same Adobe ID I used for the iPad and got this error message: "You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."
Surely the whole reason for having an Adobe ID is so I CAN use it to authorize multiple devices, no? Can anyone explain why I might be getting this error?
Thanks.

The background: your Adobe ID is 'registered' with Adobe, and its servers
are used during the authorization process.  Your Adobe ID is used normally
for a computer and then ereaders, and Adobe's servers are sensitive to what
devices you authorize.
The foreground: ADE and Apple are not compatible.  It appears that you may
know this from your statements about using the Overdrive console.  The iPad
is considered a mobile device, and that runs afoul of Adobe's authorization
process.
What can you do?  I don't know - but somebody out there does.....
