I have been getting invalid certificate notices in safari

I have been getting an invalid certificate notice on valid web sites.  The problem is that the certificate web site doesn't match the invalid notice.  What should I do to fix this?

Make sure your time and date are correct and updating for your location in System Preferences.
Not work?
Reset the #2 PRAM (skip the rest)
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Check your System Preferences again, reset, and reboot
Not keeping your preferences for System Preferences?
Do this
Deleting the System Preference or other .plist file

  • Getting a lot of unknown certificate notices in Safari. What's up?

In the last month, I've been getting "unknown certificate" notices from Safari. I don't see anything wrong with the certificate details, but I'm not sure what to look for. The notices tell me that without the certificate, I won't know if it is a trusted site: the purpose of the certificates I guess. None of the notices were from first time sites. i.e. I was going there on purpose, not through any links, etc. What's up? Should I be concerned? How do I detect if I SHOULD be concerned by information in the details of the certificate?  Russell

First, the process by which the Mac OS checks the validity of root SSL certificates doesn't currently work behind an authenticating proxy, such as those used on some enterprise networks. If you're in that situation, contact your network administrator.
Are the current date (including the year) and time shown on your system clock? If not, correct them and try again.
Otherwise, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter "ocspd" (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Is a process with that name listed?
If not, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar. In the text box that opens, enter
    /var/db/crls
From the folder that opens, move these two files to the Trash:
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You’ll be prompted for your administrator password when you do this. Then reboot, empty the Trash, and try again.

    Hello,
    Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support!
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.

I have been getting notices to instal latest version of firefox. However, I understand that SMART BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR , is not compatible. I experienced this before. Therefore, I do not want to go for it. .But at the same time, I often get problem in google documents because of no latest version.
    Pl. help

The developer of '''''Smart Bookmarks Bar''''' seems to have abandoned that Add-on and has not issued an update to it since 2009-02-13.
    *See --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/smart-bookmarks-bar/versions/
Have a look at a very similar Add-on named '''''Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar'''''. If you like that Add-on, un-install '''''Smart Bookmarks Bar''''' before installing it.

  • Recipients of my email have been getting a bunch of scrambled code, letters and symbols, inserted into the body of my email - preceded by "span.IP". How to fix?

Some recipients of my emails have been getting a bunch of code, letters and symbols, inserted into the email preceded by "span.IP". What is causing this and how can I fix it? Also (may be related) when i start up Thunderbird, I get the following error message:
    Secure connection failed
live.mozillamessaging.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.
Or you can add an exception…

Browser Safeguard apparently attempts to intercept your secure connection to the server, so just uninstall it. Reboot your computer, and run a malware check.
It's also possible that it issued certificates for secure sites you visit. Those self signed certs could then be used by IE, so you should get rid of them as well.
In IE under Internet Options - Content tab click on Certificates. It opens to the Personal tab. Look for certificates issued by DO_NOT_TRUST_FiddlerRoot. Those are the ones created by Browser Safeguard.
Both, Thunderbird and Firefox use their own certificate store independent from the Windows certificate store. So they should not be affected by those certs.
For the future watch out for additional software being sneaked in when installing a program.

  • Keep getting invalid certificate notifications on certain sites on Safari. How do I get sites to trust?

About a week ago my MB Pro (wife's computer) said date and location was lost. Wife went in and reset. A day later on my side I started getting invalid certification notices dropping down from menu bar. Mostly an annoyance and would either click cancle or resume. However some sites, Facebook in particular, I lost the page altogether. I get a white screen with blue and whit text along left margin. I've worked with an online tech for 4 days and have not resolved. Does anyone know the fix or had similar problem. I'm at wits end.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that

  • I have been getting a popup every time I open safari. It will not allow me to use safari. It gives me a phone number to call to fix the problem. In the meantime I can't use safari.

I Have been getting a pop up when I open safari telling me there is a threat of a hacking attack
on my browser. It asks me to go to a website http//pctechief.com for a fix. I am afraid to reply to
    this website.

There are several ways to recover.
    1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
    2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
    3. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
    4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

  • I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Is Apple aware of this problem? No longer supported?

My web page uses a Java Applet to allow my visitors to replay chess games; the Chess Viewer Deluxe applet was written by Nikolai Pilafov some time ago and has been working properly for some time (until recently). I don't monitor this part of my site regularly so I am not sure when it began to fail. On his web site [http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/11/chess-viewer-deluxe.html] he has a link to check LiveConnect object functionality (which fails for OBJECT tags). His recommendation is to "seek platform specific support which might be available from the JRE developers for your platform".
I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Until I checked the LiveConnect object functionality, I was unable to identify the source of the console error messages. This does seem to be the smoking gun.
Is Apple aware of this problem? Are these classes no longer supported? Has anyone else had this problem? You can attempt to recreate the problem locally by going to my web page: http://donsmallidge.com/DonSmallidgeChess.html
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I just went up to check the LiveConnect object functionality page AND IT WORKED THIS TIME! I must confess, this is very mysterious. I will do some more checking and reply here if I can determine why it is working now (and more importantly, why it didn't work before).

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|Previous Sh' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
