I have been trying to update my ipod touch iOS

I get error message saying it has "timed out" even after it actually says the correct amount of data has been downloaded. I have already turned my firewall off, and my antivirus as well.
What else is happening?? This is frustrating when the file size is so large and on a limited amount of data for the month.

this is happening to me as well, Windows 7; i'm currently trying to download w/firewall turned off, is this a 15-18 minute download?

The logo is saying connect it to your computer with iTunes installed on the computer. I assume when yo do this that the iPod is not seen in iTunes. to make iTunes appear try:
- Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Place the iPod in recovery mode. See:

If the iPod appears in iTunes restore the iPOd. If not I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

How old is your iPod? Mirroring requires a 5th generation iPod Touch, which was released in late 2012.

Make sure your system time & date is set properly. If it is not, then move it backwards 2 months, then try to connect to the store. Good chance it will work then.
Change it back after again.

Ok make sure you have iTunes 11. Then connect iPod touch to computer then iTunes should pop up automatically. After it opens on the bottom left there should be a tab where it says your name and then iPod. For example (Johns iPod) click on that then it brings all your information of the iPod including restore and updating.

Errors when updating leads to corrupt system files and this may be your problem. If you're using windows, connect your device to PC and run any third party app like Syncios. If it detects, you maybe in luck and try to back-up your data if possible. I hope that it won't and if doesn't, there is no other way to recover files. You should be restoring with iTunes and all data will be erased, or else your device may become unusable.

If you get a network timed out error, try disabling the security software on the computer during the download and install.
You can also try a direct download andinstall by:
iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
Nera the top of the page aretheinstructions for selecing the download for the install.

If your profile is correct you are using 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. The latest iTunes version for that OS is 11.3.1 If your profile is wrong and you have 10.9.5 Mavericks, then the iTunes version is 11.4. You cannot use Mavericks versions on Snow Leopard.

Im wondering why my post hasn't been answered yet. I did file a report with the BBB and I had a rude representative from Verizon call me named Steve. He said I can file all of the reports I want and I will just keep getting calls from him. I can understand why my phone couldn't be replaced because of the small crack. You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
