This is really difficult to the point of not really worth it.
Keep the old TM backups in archive.. and start afresh on the TC.
Time Machine has a different way of backing up on Network drives cf Local drives.
Pondini does have a method to do it... but I would not recommend it.

  • I have an older Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer these songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available

I have an oder Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer ths songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available?

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

Sorry, you question doesn't make sense. If you're trying to import photos, in your camera roll, to iPhoto, iPhoto doesn't import them twice.

  • Imposible continue the installation of Snow leopard 10.6 on a 1TB external hard disk, what can I do?

Imposible continue with the installation of Snow leopard 10.6 on a 1TB external hard disk. I did the same last year and I continued working but suddenly appeared the simbol with a folder and a question mark and I know this is a problem so I click in the format option to the hard disk and when I tried to install again Snow Leopard, 'cause I want to recover my backups with Time Machine, I couldn't continue because the installation didn't respond to the click in the Utilities option or to next step > continue . Please, What can I do? I'll wait for your answers. Thank you so much in advance.

    Hello Melophage,
It is the original hard drive which should have been erased by the previous owner. The problem is, I cannot access it without any OS installed. Or maybe there is a bootable USB or DVD that can do it ?
Just an indication: when I boot without CD inserted in it, it shows a grey folder icon with a questionmark like this one:
    Thank you for your help
PS: Yes, I am interested by the replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for my model. Where can I purchase this ?

  • I am waiting for a new iMac with two drives: SSD   conventional hard drive. How can I transfer only a certain number of applications to the SSD and the rest to the physical hard disk drive?

I am expecting a new iMac (i7 with SSD). How can I transfer only certain applications along with the system, library etc. to this limited (space) HD and other applications to the conventional disk HD in order to save space on the SSD?
    Thank you,
    Gilles

I have the same scenario, using an SSD for my start-up drive. I have copied my Applications folder to a mechanical hard drive and created symbolic link to it. The symbolic link resides on the SSD and works properly.
That may not be the best solution.  Many updaters expect apps, especially Apple apps, to be in the  /Applications folder on the OSX drive;  if there are updates, the apps may not be found, thus may not be updated.  I don't know if the installers/updaters will follow a symbolic link or not.
DItto some apps, especially Adobe apps, won't even work if they're anywhere else.  Again, I don't know if they'll follow a symbolic link, either.

  • Hi there, My Hard Disk space on the Mac Book is running low, I found about 105gigs in Back Ups, after I moved my ballooning Aperture Library to an external hard disk.  Can you help?

Just checked on Lion - somehow I have over 100gigs in Back Ups, but much less in pictures.  I moved Itunes, Aperture Libraries to my external hard Disk.  Still running low on the 250 gigs space.  Any tips on how I can free this are much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Did you actually move / delete the data on your HDD?
When you click and drag to an external drive, it automatically copies instead of moves.
What are these backups & their location?
You could try and app similar to WhatSize.

  • We have two computers, one solely to be used by my wife. Until now she has used my appleid to buy stuff from the Apple Store but has now bought her own iPad. we are finding it very difficult to remove me from her computer.

Until recently our household comprised two computers but only one iPad (mine) and we could buy from the store on either computer because both computers identified with my apple ID. My wife has now bought her own iPad and created her own apple ID and wants to be able to purchase apps etc on her own accout from iTunes in her computer. We are finding it impossible to take my apple ID off her computer to enable her to buy on her own account because we keep getting a message that only my ID isaccepted. HELP would be apprecaited. Thank you

Mr. Wiclee - thanks for the link.
When I said I had not "installed" iTunes on my iPad, I suppose I meant I have not yet signed in to iTunes, ever.  I suppose when I sign in to iTunes the first time on my new iPad, I will be required to create a new iTunes account?  Then refer to such new iTunes account when I launch iTunes for the first time on my PC as myself?  Or will I still need to use Method Three in your link?
The crucial thing is this - when I turn on iTunes on the PC for the first time with me as User, I do NOT want it to connect to my wife's iTunes account.  On my PC, I would want iTunes to ask me who I am, so I can then sign in with my new iTunes account that I had just created on my iPad.  How can I be sure to accomplish this goal?
In my PC, if I look at Documents and Settings and compare the two folders for we two different users, one for me and one for my wife, I can see that my wife's has Application Data and Local Settings for her various Apple programs.  However, so do I in my User even though I have not yet installed any Apple programs on my side.  I am concerned that when I finall launch iTunes when I am user, it will open up in my wife's iTunes account, which I truly want to avoid.
    Thanks.  Please advise.

  • Using an external hard drive I can't transfer my library (music, apps, books) to a new pc to a new pc

I've bought a new laptop and need to transfer my entire library of music, apps, and books to that new computer. I have an external hard drive and exported library to it but now I'm unable to import it to the new computer. Did I not back up the external correctly or am I unable to download all the info to the new computer?

If the "new PC" is not an Apple, then your Apple Apps will not be compatible with the PC.  So you are NOT able to transfer them.
    Hope this helps

  • Changing the external hard drive - how can I let FCP know where to find my footage?

Just got an 8TB RAID because my existing 2TB drive is full -- and I'm still working on a very large video project.
So...I want to transfer everything over from the smaller drive to the bigger one.
Question: How do I let Final Cut know where all the footage has been sent to?
Can I simply drag all the footage to the new drive, and then change the capture scratch settings so FCP knows where to look for the footage from now on?
OR...is it more complicated than this?
    Thanks
    Toni

    Hello
    Thanks for your reply
I've copied all of the material from the old HD (Redd Foxx) to the new HD (Silverberg).
Unfortunately, the screen capture you included in your email looks nothing like my version of FCP -- I'm using FCP 6.0.6.  Also, I can't find anywhere that allows me to "modify event references."
Either way, I can't open the project on the new HD (Silverberg) -- FCP wants me to turn on the old HD (Redd Foxx).
So...I reset the scratch disks to Silverberg but haven't "cleared" the old one off yet, as I'm worried I might have to re-render everything.
I just want to get rid of Redd Foxx (the old HD) altogether.  Step by step help, please!!
    Thanks

  • New iPad. I have 2 apple id's.iCloud doesn't sync one device with one id and ipad with another id.  How can I reconcile?

Just bought new iPad.  Previously had iPod with one id.  Bought an iPhone and used another id.  Then bought an iPad and used the old iTunes id, not the new iPhone id, which had much on it.  We want all the stuff on iPhone (user id 2) on iPad (user id 1).  How do we reconcile?

    No.
Content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
All content is forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.

  • My laptop was stolen and all my music is on my iPod Classic. How can I transfer it to my new computer and keep the playlists and such?

    Hey Everyone,
My apartment was broken into and my laptop was stolen which had my entire iTunes library.  I have it all on my iPod Classic now which was with me at the time.
What do you suggest as the best tool to transfer the music FROM my iPod to to my new computer?  I know there are some programs out there, what have you had success with?
My most important question is, is there a way to retain my library and especially playlists as it is (instead of copying over a massive bunch of songs)?  Most of my music is from music blogs, mixtapes and underground artists so most of it cannot be found in the iTunes store.
    Thanks for any help guys!
    Vlad.

  • How can I sort an albums chart by release date on the latest version of iTunes?

The last few days, I've noticed that there is no more the choice to sort an albums chart by release date or name. Is there a way to sort it that way? Thanks.

Click here, back the computer up, install the DVD, and run Software Update twice.
