I have built in airport card, why wont my ipod get internet?

i have turned on internet sharing, i have made a password, the sharing symbol is in the menu bar. both my iphones will show the wifi symbol and the check mark in the wifi menu. but they do not have network connection. when i initially set up the network it works for a short time, but fails the next day.
do i need and airport express base station as well?  if so,....why?

The Airport that is built into Intel based iMacs allows the computer to receive a wi-fi signal. It can be configured to used as a router too however that is complex and not recommended. If you have an Intel based iMac and you want wi-fi to work you need a router of some type, I would recommend a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP and they can help you choose one that will fit your needs.
Your profile does not indicate what iMac you own, is it an Intel based iMac or PPC based machine? If you are not sure click the Apple symbol in the upper left of this screen and click "About this Mac". When you did your profile you left out a lot of information so I'm guessing a little bit.

If you still have your old card listed on your account then try selecting the 'none' option and remove it and then try entering the card's details from scratch. If that doesn't work then what is the full error message that you are getting, and the card is registered to the same name and address (including format and spacing) that you have on your iTunes account ?

  • Good Signal, but not Internet with built-in Airport card

    Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate question, but I couldn't seem to find a similar situation. I'm trying to get my wireless (or any) Internet working at my house with my Powerbook G4 with a built-in Airport card. We have a Linksys 802.11g router with no security enabled. My mac is picking up a very strong signal, but everytime I go to Safari, iTunes, or Explorer it says there's no internet connection present (yet internet connect and my network says I'm connected through Airport).
I've had my wireless and ethernet working on this computer before -- picking up a variety of signals, including other linksys routers. All of the PCs in the house are working fine with this, and my mac even shows up on our router list.
The most recent experience I had with internet on my mac was earlier this week--i took it into my work to do some testing and we had to set up a specific location to get it to work through that ethernet network. When I took it home, I removed all of those configurations and tried both my wireless and ethernet, and I can not get either working. At this point, I've removed all of my configurations and tried reconfiguring. Everything but my airport is turned off. No proxies are selected. I've turned off the iPv6. I'm using DHCP (which is showing the correct router and IP address). I've deleted the System Configuration folder from Preferences. And it's on the top of the list in network and have selected Airport as the default. And none of this seems to be working. Oh, and I tested to see if it was a DNS problem (which I head read in one discussion forum), and that didn't fix it. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing. But I can't for the life of me get it to work.
Does anyone have any thoughts? suggestions? insights? help?
Please? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what this could be.
    Thanks so much in advance.
    meg.

    Joel,
I am having the same exact problem and have had it for months now.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

why wont my ipod sync anymore? Is it because it is the first touch that ever came out?

No, first-generation iPod touches still sync just fine. Give us details about your computer, particularly the operating system and version of iTunes it's running, and the exact nature of the problem and someone can probably offer suggestions.

Some more information other than why would help. Does your service provider allow cellular data on your plan? Do you have cellular data turned on? Are you in a area with cellular coverage?

  • HT1349 I have a Power PC G5 mac. It's Dual 1.8 GHz and has 1 GB DDR SD Ram. This mac has no wireless Airport Card. Where do I get one to install in the computer so that it is able to pick up wifi signal and how much is the cost?

I have an older Power PC G5 desktop mac. It has 1GB DDR and SD Ram and Dual 1.8 GHz. The problem is there is no wifi signal. I think I need an airport card to insert in order for this model to pick up wifi. How do I know which airport card to use?

Your Power Mac G5 had an option to have an 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Card. You basically have two choices: 1) Search the Internet for vendors that still provide this card, or 2) Get a wireless USB adapter that supports both 802.11b/g, but also the newer 802.11n standard. An example of this USB adapter can be found here.

  • Built in Airport Card on iMac Doesn't Work (The card came with my iMac)

I have an iMac Intel White. The Airport Card that came with it was working since I got the machine, but now it suddenly stopped working... When I click on it, it says Airport: Not Configured. Hmm, strange. Guess what, nothing with Airport works. There recently was a power outage, but I have the Mac on a UPS.
What is going on? More importantly, HOW DO I FIX THIS??
I am using Ethernet right now. It's not a problem; the real problem is that I cannot do Internet Sharing over the air!

Oops, made a mistake. Sorry. I'll post this in the correct iMac category.

  • Do I have a Bad Airport Card? or is it my Router?

I'm hoping someone smarter than me can help..I have three Macs (Imac, Emac and G4) with airport cards that connect to an airport extreme base station. Recently on my G4 the icon showing the airport signal is rarely good and many times says "airport card not installed"...the other two have no problems connecting via the wireless network. If I restart or shutdown and restart, it is becoming more likely that it won't show connected..if it does, it rarely stays connected for more than 4-5 minutes. One additional note is that my airport base station is connected to a DSL modem, which is also a router...could that be screwing things up..ie, an input to a modem/router to a wireless router??? Help, hate to keep borrowing my children's computers, but not as much as they do Thanks in advance, D

Daniel, First welcome to the discussions.
If your Modem Router is multi port on the back Try plugging in to the #1 port and then to the WAN port the one with the little circle of dots on the Airport Extreme.
Next you might want to double check that the Airport card is seated very firmly and check the antenna also they have a problem of not being seated properly causing problems as you describe....Don
