Hi
Error -49 opWrErr File already open with write permission
Trash the preference files while application is NOT Running.
Easiest way to find out if this is the problem is by:
• Create a new User-Account
• Log out of Your old one and into this
• Re-try iMovie
If it now works OK - then 99.9% the problem is iMovie pref. file that needs to be trashed.

Some users notice on exporting larger projects from within iMovie that this operation is aborted with an 'error -49'
This issue occurs only on MacOs machines using 10.7x
try switching-off the Local Mobile Backup
in Terminal copy/paste
sudo tmutil disablelocal

When I click on finalize project or when I tried to share on Vimeo iMovie goes through this ten hour operation and the, somethime while I'm away from the computer, I get this error message. UNABLE TO PREPARE PROJECT FOR PUBLISHING. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission).
This has happened to me before and I can't nail down the particulars of when this happens. I will say I've never been able to Finalize A Project (not even sure what than means) but I have been able to publish short films to YouTube. This current film is a little over an hour and I picked the HD Format. Could the size have something to do with it?See the discussion here:

In iMovie I am getting this message...Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. File already open with write permission.
How do I resolve this?Hi
Most often it helps by - Turning Off the TimeMachine application - during work in iMovie.

Whenever i try sharing my imovie trailer with idvd it says "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)". How am i supposed to burn it to a dvd then?
Additional info: trying to write to internal disk (268 GB Free out of 499 GB)
Please advise, alko80 -
This pops up when exporting in iMovie "Unable to prepare project for publishing: The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (ParamErr: error in user parameter list)" I have turned off my Time Machine in terminal yet it remains. What do I do, I need your help PLEASE.
Hi
Error -50 paramErr Error in user parameter list
Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
• free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
Video codec
• streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
Pictures
• in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
Audio
• from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?
The "com.apple.iMovie.plist" file
Many users has not observed that there are TWO libraries.
• Library - at root level
• Library - in user/account folder - THIS IS THE ONE to look into

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

I am trying to send an iMovie project to iDVD and I keep getting the following error msg. "Unable to prepare subject for publishing: The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-43)"
Check out this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1421870
It may mean you either your Event or your Project. Have you moved any of the files in the Finder by any chance? That error may come up if you moved anything outside of iMovie. Do you get an error message when you choose Share>Export to iMovie (choose medium size) and save it to the Desktop? If you can export it to the desktop, you can pull that file into iDVD separately and still make it work. -
When I go to share my Imovie to Itunes after a couple of hours I get the following message. "Unable to prepare project for publishing. That project could not be prepared for publishing because a error occurred(disk full)". What does this mean and how do I fix it?
This is the forum for iOS (iPhones and iPads),
I have refered it to get moved to the correct forum.
But my guess is that you have to clear space on your harddrive.
The video gets rendered when you out put it, so you will need lots of space to do so. -

When I try to export the movie I get this error code. Im doing a music video and have put days into it and now I can not get it to export! My other small project export with no problem.
Thanks for the details. We have a similar problem (see my post below) and are in the process of adding back each clip and then testing for export. My question is, once iMovie is unable to export the project, does it render the file "bad" and prevent exporting even if you remove the "poisned" clip(s)?

Hello, We are having a similar problem running iMovie '09. We get the exact same error as you reported.
"Unable to prepare project for publishing" The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (-50)
We have a very similar situation were we have multiple repeated clips. However, our clips are 2.4 's. Like you, we took the finished project and started eliminating edits that we thought might be preventing it from exporting. The following actions still would not allow the project to export:
removing title pages
removing transitions
removing imported music from iTunes
removed another clip from another event
closed all other programs
closed iMovie, powered off computer, opened iMovie, tried to export
reconfirmed the last project exported would still export - it did without issueThe only difference between the project that will export and the one that does not are these short (2.4's) repeating clips
When we create the new project from the recorded event without making any edits (just as recorded), it exports without issue. We have started the arduous task of adding back in each edit and testing it for export until we determine which edit is causing it to "not export". This is a very inefficient way of troubleshooting.
This is a science project for my son and we need to be able to save it as a QT or mpeg4 movie so that he can submit it to his teacher for viewing and a grade!
Any ideas from any other users would be greatly appreciated. -
I keep getting this message from Imovie:
Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (Error in user parameter list)Bartirn,
I called Apple under my Mac support contract. They were completely unfamiliar with the error you and I were encountering. Updating to 10.8.5 didn't help.
I'm stopping my TimeCapsule while I perform these tasks, but I don't know yet if I have a consistent work-around.

When sharing my 60 minutes iMovie project with iDVD inmediately message 'The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (Error in user parameter list)' appears. Could not find the user parameter list, so I've no more info about this error.
Option File - Finalize Project gives inmediately the same errormessage.
Also option Share - Media Browser - Large/Medium/Mobile give the same errormessage.
Please advise, thank you!Additional info: trying to write to internal disk (268 GB Free out of 499 GB)
