I have dead strip on my iphone5 screen

I have a strip on my iphone5 screen that is not at all responsive to touch.  I used a sketch app in the picture below to show where the dead spot is.  What can be done to fix this?  I am not aware of anything I did that could cause this (ex. drop the phone)

Hey there Steevet,
It sounds like you are seeing some anomalous white lines on your screen. I would start by resetting your iPad with this process, and then test the issue again:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If that does not resolve the issue, I would next backup your iPad with this article:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
And restore it from your backup with this article:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Sterling

  • 'Dead Strip' Part of Touch SCreen is Unresponsive

I just went out and bought a new 16GB 3G iPhone today, came home, uploaded my music and apps, and I thought everything went well. However, it appears my new iPhone is suffering from the 'dead strip' issue that many iPhones have seem to gotten. For those of you unaware of this issue, there is a small part of my screen that is unresponsive to touch. For me, this part of the screen affects the 1,2,3 buttons on the phone dial. Anything in this part of the screen will not respond. I've tried updating firmwares, multiple restores, and a few resets. Nothing will work. I knew that some iPhones would develop this issue over time, but never knew they came right out of the box defective!
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Having to take this back top the store is going to be a good chunk of time that I can't spare anytime soon.
    -Parker

Unless you put the phone in an ill fitting case or are using a defective screen protector, you have a defective phone and the only solution is to get it replaced. This is a hardware problem - unfortunately nothing you can do to fix it.
BTW, this isn't something that occurs with "many iPhones", or something that "develops over time" with the iPhone 3G, unless the screen is damaged.

  • My IPad has a dead strip on the touch screen.

About three inches from the home button is a strip about half an inch tall, that runs all the way across the screen. It comes and goes, but is there more often than not. Some times it clicks anything in the strip. Making web browsing and most games  very frustrating. Anyone else had this problem? Is it hardware or software?

Even hermits love there iPads! If you are not use to computers  and the like ,maybe take a trip the the Apple store 3 hours away and do some of the free classes the run. I am sure you will learn heaps and find it very interesting.

  • One dead pixel on my iphone5s's screen

i found one dead pixel on my iphone5s screen, i just bought this phone 1 month , can i replace my phone?

When my brand spanking new iMac had a similar issue last year they sent me a new one so I could transfer everything over then they arranged for a courier to collect the old one a few days later.
Just be warned if you don't give it back for when they say they will charge your credit card again.
It was fine for me as obviously I wasn't trying to steal!

  • I have two strips of dead pixels ..

I have two strips of dead pixels, running vertically down the screen, 1 in the middle and one on the right hand side, what are they?

Your post reads as though a decode line may be inoperable.  If the iPhone is in warranty, return it to Apple for an exchange.  If the iPhone is not in warranty, return it to Apple for an out-of-warranty (ie. bring your wallet) exchange.

  • My iphone5 screen had stripes on it and it turned itself off

My granddaughter was using my iphone5 and there was nothing wrong with it. The screen would have different colored stripes going down the screen then it would turn off, sometimes it would even fade out. I don't know what's wrong with it. Please help.

    Try a hard reset....
Press and hold the Wake / Sleep button and the Home button at the same time, keep them pressed until the Apple Logo appears.   You will NOT lose any data.

  • Why is it when using my iPhone 4s front camera, the screen sometimes turn black or have blue stripes on it? What's wrong with it and what should I do?

When using my iPhone 4s front camera, the screen sometimes become black or have blue stripes on it! Is this a hardware or software problem? Can this issue be covered by my warranty? I bought it inmid-december last year, and this problem came at around Late January. It's a rare case, only came about 5 times, but this really concerns me. What's wrong with it? Thank you so much for your concern.

    thank you for your reply
I brought it to the store and they agreed to give me an exchange. thank goodness!
I have a new question: I've now transferred my back up datas to my new iphone. They wanted me to register, so I registered (as my old apple ID) and then they asked if I want to restore backup, I did that too. after the restore back up process, the only things that aren't there were my music and apps! what should I do to get them into my new iPhone?

Try resetting your phone, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until the apple symbol comes up, then release. If that doesnt work, you may have damaged your phone and need to take it to an apple genius bar.

I have da stuck pixel on my screen. On my iphone5. What can I do?

Hi! Sorry for the late reply.
You could go back to Verizon, though it's highly likely they might send it away for repair. If you go into an Apple Retail Store instead they tend to do everything on the spot.
Not entirely sure with Verizon's options (Im in Australia) but can only give it a try

  • I have dead blue screen after downloading the ios 7.1.1

I have dead blue screen after downloading the ios 7.1.1.
What should I do to fix it?

    Hello hagarar,
If your iPhone started displaying a blue screen after running a software update, I suggest the steps in the following article.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks for reaching out,
    -Joe

  • IPhone "Dead Strip"... and what to do now?

    Hey there,
My first generation, Edge iPhone has a "dead strip." Basically, the horizontal row where the "7" "8" and "9" appear on the "Enter Passcode" screen no longer recognizes any touching. Any at all. Honestly, thank God that my passcode doesn't use any of those numbers... If not I wouldn't even be able to log in.
I first noticed the lack of touch recognition about 2 months ago, but the "dead strip" wasn't as tall as it is now. "Tall" being the height of the strip... it's "width" always encompassed the entire horizontal rule of the iPhone's screen, and still does. I noticed it when scrolling web pages, since when my finger got to the old, less tall strip the web page would stop scrolling (thinking I had lifted my finger, I suppose). It wasn't that bothersome... until the strip just kept getting larger ("taller"). The "dead strip" has kept growing in size.
Now that the strip has grown to a large "dead strip," I can no longer write anything with my iPhone's keyboard. It renders e-mail, web and text useless (not to mention any application, etc. that has input buttons placed in said "dead strip"). I've even tried getting around the e-mail problem with EasyWriter, and have had good results. EasyWriter gives one the ability to craft an e-mail with its application... using a horizontal keyboard. So, unlike with the default iPhone e-mail program where I'm stuck not being able to touch certain letters, EasyWriter allows me to keep rotating the display until the letter I want is in a non-"dead strip" location. It works... but, boy, is it tedious and time consuming. Though EasyWriter still does nothing for web and text input issues. Not EasyWriter's fault, just saying that I can't use it as a work-around to the "dead strip."
I took my iPhone to the Apple store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue last week and all they could say was "out of warranty... refurbish for $199." My iPhone has zero physical damage, so I'm pretty ticked... but I understand that nothing can be warranted forever. (But I bought mine on launch day, so I personally think that less than 1.5 years is pathetic to not warrant, however. This is about quality of manufacturing, in my opinion.)
My question to the forum is this: is there still a market for first generation, Edge iPhones? I thought I'd read that as a resale... they were more preferable than the 3G iPhones.
Thea reason I ask is that since it's "out of warranty" I can either get a refurbished first generation, Edge iPhone for $199 or upgrade to a 3G for $199... though that 3G's phone plan would cost me $15/month more as well (keeping the same wireless/text plan that I have now).
If I go the refurbished, first generation, Edge route (for monthly pricing reasons)... will I be able to resell it at some point in the near future, when I am ready to upgrade to a 3G? Are the first generation, Edge iPhones still selling online for more than the $199 it would cost me?
Or... even better, is there anything which I can make a case for, that would just have Apple swap it out for me? This would be the best route, since I literally have treated this thing gallantly and in a case for its entire existence. So, to me it's bad craftsmanship that has brought this on.
    Thanks

    Tamara,
Thank you for the feedback. Do people actually buy iPhones with "dead strips?" On second thought, since I could use it as a second Sonos controller, I'd like to get it fixed after I purchase a new iPhone. Can you steer me in the right direction, to get it fixed? Website(s)?
And as a small side note, AppleCare wasn't available on launch-day purchased iPhones until some months afterwards... so, by the time that it came out, I wasn't mindful of remembering to go and get it.
    Thanks again

  • Is the digitalizer the cause for dead strips?

I have  a itouch 3g and the right half of the screen is a dead strip. Is the digitalizer the cause for this problem?

    I would try the following:
    - Make sure the screen is clean.
    - Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First restore from backup and if problems persist restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to troubleshoot.
    Apple prices:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
    Some third-party places:
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
DigiExpress.us - The iPad Repair Professionals

  • Dead Spot-Top of the Screen (With: Maps - Stocks - Clock - Safari - iPod)

    Dead Spot-Top of the Screen
I see some problems with the bottom of the screen but here the problem is with the top of the screen.
I can't use some part of this Applications, I don't know why, I already reset and restore the iPhone some times, and there is no change.
Maps - I can't type any direction on the search field.
Stocks - I can't select the first stock on the list.
Clock - World Clock - Edit - I can't select the Done button.
Safari - When the Phone is horizontal I can't select the Add Bookmark or the Back button.
iPod - When the Phone is horizontal I can't select the play button.
Please let me know how can I fixed or how can I change my iPhone, I'm working in McAllen Texas and the only Apple Store near to here is the one that is in San Antonio, so its like 3 hours driving, what can I do?

If they try and make u pay for a loaner phone, be insistant that they give u one free of charge! I had to send mine in for repairs, but talked them out of the $30 loaner phone fee..only makes sense that we shouldn't have to pay! cheers

  • I have lost my cd's and screen became gray i can not boot what should i do?

    Hi all
i have lost my cd's and screen became gray i can not boot what should i do?
i have tried to reset Vram
    tried to run safe boot
    but nothing happends
i have a macbook pro core 2 duo 2GB ram 160 gb hard disk

Use the computer your on now to download and burn a ISO of PartedMagic to a cd.
In Windows 7 you can right click on the downloaded ISO and click burn to disk, other Windows versions use the free ImgBurn software.
In OS X you can burn the ISO using Disk Utility.
Hook up a external drive to the target Mac.
Stick the PartedMagic disk into the Mac and reboot holding option and c keys (I forget which one works)
Use the first option (default) to load PartedMagic into memory (watch out the disk will eject!)
Once in PartedMagic there is a Mount Drive icon on the right, doubleclick it twice to open two windows (three total) you can now transfer your files after mounting the disks/partitions using the two open file windows.
Unmount the drives before using the "Start" like menu in the lower left corner to quit PartedMagic.
If your Mac works with all this then your in good shape, you just have a hosed operating system and a $29 Snow Leopard install disk (c boot off of it) and a Disk Utility Erase (with Zero Erase preferred) and a reinstall of OSX Snow leopard will do the trick.
If your computer boots off the PartedMagic cd, but you can't find/access the internal drive, then your boot drive is dead and you need to replace it or have someone replace it for you.
If your computer doesn't boot off the PartedMagic cd, then it's likely a serious hardware issue.

  • Qosmio F30 starts with blue stripes during the start screen of Vista

My Qosmio F30-114 runs since years without Problems with Vista Ultimate.
Since some Days there is a huge Problem.
The Qosmio starts with blue stripes during the start screen of vista.
So I deleted the driver of the graphic card and used the standard vga card driver. the hardware assistent found a driver on the system.
For a short moment i was very lucky.
After a restart, there was a blue screen. after the next restard, again the standard vga card driver.
    What can i do?
The download section of toshiba has no drivers for graphic card.
And really ... i wonder - how does it works all the years without problems...
    Has anyone a solution?
    thanx
    toshibalover ;-)

    Hi!
First of all do you have this issue on an external monitor too or only on the internal monitor? Maybe its not a problem of the graphic card so check this with an external monitor.
I have checked the Toshiba website and there I can find some drivers for the Qosmio F30:
