I have downloaded ios 3.1. How do I install this to 1st generation ipod touch?
I have 1st generation itouch. I have downloaded IOS 3.1. I would like to install it but do not know how. I have updated the after connecting to PC and select the Itouch from Itune. However, it keeps on saying it updated with IOS 2.2.1.
It sounds like you had problem downlaod the paid 3.1.3 update. See this previous discussion on the subject.

Ios 3.1.1 will not download for the 1st generation ipod touch
Why won't ios 3.1.1 download for the 1st generation ipod touch? It will start and then a second later stop.
Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps? You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod. -
I have purchased indesign suite 6. how do i install this program? Please
i have purchased indesign suite 6. how do i install this program now? Please
InDesign is single product of Adobe's various products, not a suite. But anyway, I presume you purchased it as a download? If so, you'll have a .dmg file. This is a disk image. Double click the file and a pseudo drive will appear on the desktop. There should be an app clearly named as the installer, though it may be one folder deep.

Hi i have recently updated my 1st generation ipod touch to find that it has wiped all my purchased music .My itunes libray is on an old laptop i no longer have . any ideas please
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later. Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

How do you get apps for the 1st generation iPod touch
How do I get apps for the 1st generation iPod touch?
By updating the iOS on the iPOd. The 1G can go as high as 3.1.3. That works with a lot of apps. But some apps require a higher iOS and/or newer iPod.

My VPN keeps disconnecting after downloaded iOS 8. How do I fix this?
my VPN keeps disconnecting after I have downloaded iOS 8 on my iPad. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?
I am having similar issues. IPad mini ios 8.0.2. VPN connection will drop unexpectedly. Actually, it drops coincide with an active application that uses a lot of memory. Such as a web browser. I can 100% replicate behavior by connecting VPN, going to Safari, and opening Facebook. If I don't use an app that is memory-intensive, VPN stays connected indefinitely.

How to wipe a 1st Generation iPod Touch keeping the 2.2.1 software
I want to sell my first generation iPod Touch (have an iPhone now).
I want to wipe all personal data from the iPod, but I want to keep the 2.2.1 software update that I purchased from it.
Not sure how to do it.You could restore.
Page 111 of the manual:
"If you restore, the latest version of iPod touch software is reinstalled, default settings
are restored, and data stored on iPod touch is deleted, including downloaded
applications, songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other
data. In iTunes, you can also restore from a backup without deleting data stored on
iPod touch.
Page 96:
"Erase all content and settings: Connect iPod touch to your computer or a power
adapter. Choose General > Reset and tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”
This feature resets all settings to their defaults and removes all your information and
media on your iPod touch by overwriting the data stored on iPod touch."
