I have downloaded the kindle app to my iPad mini but where it says open it won't do anything

I have a new iPad mini and I used to have a kindle had fire
I would like to retrieve my book from the kindle, so I went to store and downloaded app the picture of kindle comes up and it say open, wen I press open nothing happens do I have to do anything to the kindle to Make this happen please help x
If you are still in the App Store app then exit the app (click the home button) and you should find the Kindle app on your iPad's homescreen - try tapping on that and see if it opens from there.
If it doesn't then try some of the 'standard' troubleshooting. First try closing the Kindle app via the multitasking bar and see if it works when you re-open it : double-click the home button to open the iPad's multitasking bar, and then swipe or drag the Kindle app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If that fixes it then there is some help for using the Kindle app on Amazon's website : Kindle for iPad.

Open App store app. On the main page scroll to the bottom. You will see your Apple ID. Click on it...then click on Open Apple ID. You should be able to change store.

There were no results for I've downloaded the kindle app to my new iPad4 but when I went to Amazon UK and tried to download a book it said "this mobile app does not currently support digital downloads. I don't understand! I was told you could download kindle books from amazon straight to iPad if you download the kindle app first. Do I have to do it onto my computer and then sync it onto iPad? surely not?

You can sync as many iDevices as you own to a single iTunes library if you want to do so. If you manage the content manually, you can pick and choose the apps, music, videos and so on that you want on each device. One iTunes account means using the same Apple ID to purchase and update all of your apps. You can share apps on both devices because once you buy an app, you can download it to all of your iDevices - as many times as you want - using the same Apple ID and iTunes account. If you decide to do this, you have to sync to the same computer each time in order to keep all of your shared apps in the one iTunes library.
The Kindle App content is not synced to the iTunes library. It is controlled by your Kindle account. I believe that you can go into your Kindle account and transfer your purchase to your other devices - iPad, computer, etc. You can both have the Kindle app on your iPads and share the content as far as I know, so I see no conflict there. However, while I do have the Kindle app and an account, I do not use it very often.
If you want to share the one iTunes account, there should be no problems with a second iPad. I sync my iPad, my iPod Touch and my wife's iPod Touch to my MacBook using the same iTunes library and we have different content on all three devices. My daughter uses my iTunes account for her iPod Touch and syncs to her own MacBook and her own iTunes library.

I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel. I have an email with an excel attacment. When I "tap to download" the attachment, it automatically converts to a PDF file and opens as a "view only" document. I want it to open with the excel app so I can see and update the spreadsheet. Please help. Thanks!
If Excel works as do other apps, you should be able to tap and hold on the attachment and then select "Open in Excel" in the window that will open. Note that you need to be subscribed to and signed into Office 365 to be able to edit documents in Microsoft's apps.

It will be tied to your old account, so only that old account will be able to re-download it - but redownloading an account's past purchases may tie a computer or device to the account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
Do you have a copy of it anywhere e.g. on your computer's iTunes, or on a backup of your library ? If you have it on a backup then you should be prompted to authorise the account (and I think that the id will show) if you try to add it to your computer's iTunes via File > Add To Library. -

The full version of iOS5 is 6-700 megs. You really need to be on a cable internet or something as fast to download it (3G will not work, neither will dialup)
Most public wifi will be problamatic since many kick you off if you use too much data. I'd find a friend with better internet and try there. -

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -
