I have Duplicate Contacts on my Mac/iCloud

Hey there..
I am just posting as I am unsure why I have duplicate entries on my contacts list. I noticed when I went to www.icloud.com that I have duplicates there too.
If I delete 1 of every contact on my Mac will it sync to iCloud and delete the contacts there too down to one of each? The reason this started is that while I was on my iPad I noticed that I had linked contacts on my contact list and both the linked ones to the cards on my iPad were on iCloud. I'd like to have only 1 copy on iCloud that feeds all my devices (iMac, MBP, iPhone 4S and iPad 2) ... is this possible? I'd guess then that there would be no unified or linked contacts, right?
Sorry if I'm not making sense but I'm concenred that I fanny about and lose my list. If someone could help that would be great.

I found a previous thread on this that may resolve your problem:
If you are syncing over the air with iCloud then DO NOT sync via the cable with Contacts. This causes duplicates. You are telling the iPhone to bring what is in those programs to the iPhone (one copy). Then you are syncing from the cloud (copy two).
The iPhone will do exactly as you tell it to do.
The easiest way to remove duplicates.
1. On the info tab in iTunes uncheck sync contact and sync calendars.
2. On the iPhone>settings>mail contacts calendars>@me.com account>slide Contacts and Calendars OFF
3. Log into iCloud and look at contacts and calendars and make sure there are no duplicates.
4. On the iPhone>settings>mail contacts calendars>@me.com account> slide to Contacts and Calendars ON
When prompted choose to Replace with info from iCloud
Had to update some of it with iCloud info (it had been written for Mobile Me), but hopefully this will work for you!

Please always post your system when you have a query: the answer to many questions is different depending on system, and this is one of those questions.
Let me guess: you have Snow Leopard or Leopard (or even Tiger) and when you migrated from MobileMe and were warned that you needed Lion you ignored it.
You cannot sync contacts to iCloud on anything earlier than Lion. When you migrated your contacts were removed from MobileMe but because you don't have Lion the process could not place them on the iCloud server.
There is no workaround for this other than downgrading from Lion - not a process you want to undertake lightly. If you have an iPhone you can sync your contacts using iTunes.
If my guess is wrong, and you do have Lion, that's a whole different can of digital worms.

Go to contacts on your phone/ipad, click groups, make sure that the only checked contacts are icloud. That shoud do.

I can't fully tell from the information you have provided, but I suspect your duplicates resulted from having one set of contacts in your "iCloud "account and another set of contacts in your "on my Mac" account.
I further suspect that you have then deleted the contacts from your "Icloud "account, and thereby removed them from all devices. You now need to copy the contacts from your "on my Mac" account back to your "iCloud" account and delete the originals from your "on my Mac" account. You can do this by selecting groups, selecting your "on my Mac" group, and then selecting all the contacts within it and dragging them onto your "iCloud " account.
You might also take a look at this User Tip, to ensure you understand the differences between the different accounts in Address Book before adding the contacts back.

I had a MobileMe account. Now I have iCloud. But my contacts and calendar aren't synced on iCloud, I only have 1 contact, myself. Why isn't the account moving? I went to www.me.com/move , but it takes me to find my iPhone sign in, then I can get to iCloud from there, but i can't see a way to sync or move my old mobileMe account to the new iCloud.

@vdemtcho, do you have the same exact number of contacts on your iPhone and iCloud?
If so, then you can do the following:
Go to https://www.icloud.com/ and log in. Click on contacts. Click on the first contact you want to delete, then scroll down, hold “shift” and click on the last contact to be deleted. Then, press the “delete” key on you keyboard. At the prompt, confirm by clicking “Delete”. Your iCloud contacts are now gone.
Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > iCloud. In there, switch the toggle next to “Contacts” to “On”. If asked, confirm you'd like to merge the contacts with iCloud.
Your iPhone (iOS device) should now merge the local contacts with the ones on your iCloud, which you previously deleted. Hereon, any changes you make, such as adding new contacts or deleting existing ones on your iPhone, will be reflected on your iCloud, including other devices that are set to be sycned with iCloud.
If the number of contacts on your iPhone don't match 100% to your iCloud, then you will need to delete your iPhone's contacts and then sync it with your iCloud ones. Now as you can imagine, this can be a manual/tedious/painful work, but you can use the free iPhone app Spring Cleaning (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spring-cleaning/id382157893) which allows you to delete your contacts on your iPhone quickly, by making a selection and delete them in batches. Before doing this, make sure that your iCloud contacts are the right ones before you delete anything off your device.

I was having the same problem and this seemed to work, not sure which was the solution though because I didnt check between either.
1. If you go on your iPhone settings > iCloud and then turn on contacts
2. Go to iPhone settings > Mail, Contacts, Calenders and tap "Import SIM contacts"
Hope this helps! I think it is probably the first option, but it takes about a minutes for them to appear.

What do you mean by duplicated on phone and iCloud. Do you mean on iCloud.com or on a Macs address book.

Syncing with itunes and icloud caused duplicate contacts

I used icloud once to update phone - now have duplicate contacts on both phone and computer - I seem to be able to delete the duplicates on computer 10 at a time which is annoying, but when I go to sync with the iphone, the duplicates are still on the phone - I have tried using the Advanced setting to have the contacts on iphone replaced with what is on the computer but it does not delete the duplicates.

When syncing contacts over the air with your iCloud account and direct with a supported address book application on your computer, contacts on your iPhone will be duplicated.
On your iPhone go to Settings > iCloud.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will remove all your iCloud online contacts from your iPhone. If you are provided a prompt to save these contacts locally on your iPhone, decline the prompt. This will not remove the contacts stored locally on your iPhone that were synced direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
Remove all duplicates from the Address Book on your Mac. When you get the Address Book on your Mac how you want it, try selecting Contacts for replace info on this iPhone below the Advanced section under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply and a Sync.
