Mavericks 10.9.1 error recovery HD (MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013)
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15 (late 2013)
I want to reinstall mavericks on this computer but I cannot. Each time I log in recovery HD, a stop sign appear and then my computer shut down. Anybody can help how to get my recovery back? My computer is now 10.9.1 but I notice that my recovery HD is 10.9.0.
Please help me! Any suggestion is appreciated.I've had the same issue. The solution given by Linc and many others don't work on MBP Retina models. Apparently, Apple did something so that these newer models would not proceed with bootdisks. The only way to reinstall Mavericks is to go through Internet Recovery. That's why Apply emphasizes it so much in their support page and the recovery screen.
That's my theory through my trials and errors. Don't take my word for it. -
Error and crash Macbook pro retina
I'm using Macbook Pro retina approximately twice
a day does not respond dramatically to manipulation of the mouse and then the screen goes white and then restored with a picture window and the power button is written in multiple languages has been a mistake, press any button I press Poppy climbs the window is restored and that the maximum error due to the restored and what needs to send report to Apple. Started this idiocy about two weeks after purchase poppy. What is it and how to fix it? Thanks in advance. I think this is either due to battery or because the system (I think Leo is installed after you upgrade to the mountain lion is gone) or because of installed updates before they install it worked fine. I have moved the resolution to 1680x1050 on the Retina and everything works fine until I feel bad that the lion adapted to new hardware.I would return the unit to your local Apple Store or AASP. What you describe is not normal, no matter which version of OS X you are running. You're having crashes, kernel panics, screen problems, etc. It needs to be returned to be fixed or replaced.

No iLife in MacBook Pro retina when I bought open box. Called apple care said their system is unable to disassociate past apple ID
There are no iLife disks that come in the box. In any case,

Have you had New MacBook Pro retina screens crack?
I have a new MacBook Pro and all of a sudden the screen cracked. I haven't dropped or done anything to it. Has a anyone had that problem?
You should buy a hard case to protect your mac book. The hard case clips on to the Macbook pro 15 inch . I have a hard case and a soft "incase" as well, which i bought from the apple store for when i carry my Mac Book retina. I understand you can buy screen to also stick onto the front screen to protect the LCD.

Hey guys,
So after a few months of using the MBP 15' Retina, I've discovered that the fans are incredibly loud even when playing flash games like candy crush or tetris.. are any of you guys having the same problem? Like all of a sudden from be quiet to unbelievably loud just as the games load. So yeah, hopefully someone has the same problem as I am having.
What I was thinking was that the MBP Retina 15' is such a beefed up laptop, it shouldn't require that much CPU to run flash games that are not even THAT graphically intensive to which making the fans that loud..
Thanks!Believe it or not, Flash REALLY isn't the issue.
It's hardware makers making devices with less processor performance and requiring software makers to fit into a certain requirements of such. Namely iPhone, iPods and iPads.
Flash is designed to give a lot of features and work across many operating systems, browsers and platforms as a write once solution.
Flash has a certain level of processor performance requirement, which hardware makers like Apple want to build less powerful machines using less expensive processors.
Apple has removed Coverflow 3D effects from iTunes and discontinued the 17" MacBook Pro, leaving only the 15" as having a more powerful 3D capable graphics capability.
So Apple is obviously on a anti-heat/performance quest as they further thin up their hardware, trying to kill Flash by punishing Mac users who want to run it.
Flash runs without a fan sound on my older Mac with dedicated GPU and older OS X verison, no sweat.
Head to your System Preferences > Energy Saver and if you have it, uncheck Automatic Graphics switching, this will use the dedicated GPU and shorted battery life, but if your on power should reduce the heat and fan noise.
Another option is to use SMC fan control and set the fan default speed slightly faster, this will keep the machine slightly cooler and not trigger the higher fan speed as often.
If your running 10.8, you will need to System Preferences > Security > downloads to "Anywhere"
SMC FanControl is over at MacUpdate.com. -
I have bought a new macbook pro retina 13. I am not too familiar with Mac yet. I had an apple account with my iphone 4 which I stopped using a month ago. Now when I was trying to download the apps from that account but I dont know how to do this and I am unable to do so. I would be grateful if anyone can advise me with regards to this?
You cannot download the same Apps that you have on your iPhone. They are two seperate stores.
The store you have on your iPhone is the same for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone and iPod)
The store on your MacBook is only for Macs. -
Macbook pro retina 13 late 2013 hdmi output error during wakeup
hi
i got a pretty annoying error while my macbook pro retina 13 late 2013 is connected to a 2nd screen (i set the 2nd screen as main screen).
it all seems fine when i put the mac into sleep mode.
when i wake it up, the mac screen shows the background picture and the 2nd screen (still main screen) which should show the login frame, just shows grey/black points.
solution so far when you want to wake your mac:
1.) wake it up
2.) immediately put it back to sleep
3.) then promptly wake it up again and get your login frame.
does anybody know how to fix that bug?
and btw, i got a second problem:
im running osx mavericks, and id like to turn off the 2nd desktop while the mac is connected to a 2nd screen.
unfortunately, this works only if you close your mac and it is connected to power supply.
my momentary solution is to turn down the brightness to zero: problem, the 2nd desktop is still there and my mouse keeps getting lost on it!
any solutions for that? like you can choose on windows "projector only"!see picture:

Macbook Pro Retina Kernel Attack
I have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15" that I purchased from Apple * Refurbished at the end of January this year. While browsing the internet it had a random Kernel attack. I'll post the report below, just wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure out what might have caused it. I've never had a computer have a kernel attack before so no idea how to really figure out what caused it.
Thanks so much.

My command key on my macbook pro retina 2014 is sinking
So I have recently bought a Macbook pro retina 13 inch 2014 model.
I have been using it a lot lately especially for typing and using the command key. I notice that my left command key is sinking or in other words, the left command key is much lower or deeper than other keys if it is not pressed.
Is this normal? I am afraid if I keep using this left command key it will be a problem in the future.
Thanks.Sorry for bumping this OLD thread. But I am having the same problem. How did you guys exactly resolve it? What did Apple do when u went to the store? (Assuming you did)
Thanks. -
Hello!
I'm now a college student ! And I'll need to get a new laptop We will be using it for CAD, MathLab etc.,
But I practice on AE, I'm no expert at all (i don't even know some of the controls and keyboard shortcuts), I do like 'opening titles', a bit of 'harry potter effects', etc. I'm really interested in the new Retina Display MacBook Pro (base model), it will be the first time I ever get a Mac if I go for it
But of course, the price is really high, so I have my doubts - the specs of the rMBP is not that superb - i think only the resolution is.
My question is, will the base model rMBP give a decent After Effects CS6 performance, or a significantly worse performance than Windows Laptops at it's price?
Thank your for your time
Please ask me anything so I can help you better to help meI have a decked out MacBook Pro Retina and it works very well for all CS6 apps. It's actually faster by a bunch than I thought a laptop could be. I have several personal reasons for going Mac. They are my personal preferences and experience for reliability, stability, and customer service. I'm not married to OSX. If a better system for me was available I'd be using it. The for me is the critical part of that statement.
The biggest advantage of Mac computers is that there is very little chance that the components have not been fully tested and integrated. The QA/QC in all Mac hardware is some of the best in the world. Every Mac I've ever owned has been virtually trouble free mechanically and outlasted every windows machine I've ever owned. Apple does make mistakes and fouls things up, but the chance that you are going to end up with a machine that just works and runs and runs is much higher than anything built from the variety of components available on Windows machines.
Now my comments on windows machines. There are more manufacturers that I can count. There are more hardware combinations that I can imagine. Some manufactures produce excellent products. Some are just junk. Some last a very long time. Some breakdown all the time. If you were to go Windows make sure you check out the reputation and the warranty of the company building your machine. I've only owned one really high end Windows machine from a high end manufacturer. It ran just fine for about a year and a half before it needed some major component replacements. The warranty was out, there was no extended warranty available from that manufacturer, so the repairs cost me about 1/3 of the purchase price. If I'd gone with a company with a better service policy I would have saved a boatload of cash in the long run. Every other windows box that I've owned has been built from scratch or purchased in a shoe string. It took a fair amount of monthly maintenance to keep them running well.
You mentioned CAD... Audocad on the Mac side is really crippled. My associate has the full Autocad Civil Engineering package running on his MacBook Pro Retina under Parallels. It's working fine. It's one of the largest and most complex CAD packages available. It actually works better on the Mac than it does on his HP laptop and the Mac batteries last a lot longer. The HP laptop cost about half what the MBPro did. It's about 6 months older. It's not as loaded. If you were to replace the HD in the HP laptop with the same capacity SSD that is in the MBPro and bump the memory up to 16GB the HP would still be less expensive than the MBPro by about 18%. The HP is plastic and aluminum with a display screen that's very sensitive to scratches and damage by pressure. The HP is not compatible with CS6's ray traced rendering or Mercury playback for PPro. There is an HP model that is though.
You be the judge. Balance your budget and the software requirements with the expectations of reliability, service, customer service, and resale value and make your choice. -
How do I downgrade my MacBook Pro Retina Display from Mountain Lion to Lion?
I have a brand new MacBook Pro Retina Display that came with OS X 10.8.1.
I´m an audio engineer so I work with Pro Tools, tons of plug-ins etc... Some of my software doesn't work with Mountain Lion just yet. Some of them haven't upgraded, and some of them I need to purchase a latest version, which is not cheap at all in the audio world. So I'd like to hang on to Lion for a while until I decide to upgrade everything to Mountain Lion.
I've seen other posts about this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4148927?start=0&tstart=0
This one in particular managed to make the downgrade. However, he used to have OS X 10.7.4 in his retina display when he bought it. Which is something that doesn't happen in my case.
If you read the other post you can see that several methods have been tried.
Is it really safe to completely erase my hard drive and to a clean install of Lion? Will it work perfectly fine on my Retina Display?
I went to one Apple Store, and the guy asked around and told me they haven't done it before, so since they didn't know whether it was going to work they couldn't do it. He told me to do it myself and if something happened to my laptop, "just bring it in and we'll reinstall the stock OS X again."
Since the laptop is brand new I don't mind erasing everything, all my stuff is already backed up.
So help me please? The short of it is if it came with 10.8.1 you can't install an OS less than that.

MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1 Won't Install
Hi Everybody. I am having a really annoying problem with my rMBP. I have the update labaled: "MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1" Available in my Mac AppStore app. After I click update, I get a prompt letting me know that the laptop needs to be plugged in, I hit ok. It downloads (very small file) and asks me to Restart or hit "Not Now". I click restart, the system reboots into a updating page where a status bar quickly completes. The laptop restarts again back to OSX. I open up the appstore and goto the updates page and what do I see? 1 available update: MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1, like I never did anything to begin with.

Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP101.00EE.B02

Please help this is really annoying.I had the same problem. Tried all the proposed fixes. Nothing worked. This solved my problem:
1. Install a fresh copy of mountain lion on an extern disk
2. Startup from that disk
3. Update to 10.8.3.
4. Restart
5. Open app store, go to updates. You should see the SMC 1.1. update.
6. Click update
7. Restart
Once the update installed (fan will go quickly to max speed during startup) switch back to your internal disk and start up. Now the SMC 1.1. update shouldn't show up in the app store/upadtes. -
HT5634 Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina only support Windows 7 (Trying to install 8.1)
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) trying to install Windows 8.1 (64-bit) via Boot Camp on USB with an ISO. Upon downloading Windows support software, I'm greeted with a pop-up that says: "This Mac only supports Windows 7, do you want to continue?" However, upon further investigation, according to Apple's website, it says my model is officially supported for Windows 8.1 What's going on here?
Boot Camp: Version 5.1.2 (481)
OSX Version: 10.9.2
Thanks!
-SterlingI am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while. The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it. I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that. I believe it is around $75 but not sure. Hope this helps

Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 Won't launch on Macbook Pro Retina
Hello, I have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina that will not open Premiere Pro cc 2014. I have no idea why. I can give the crash log if that helps anyone. I can't figure out why it's not opening but I need it to for a project i'm supposed to be working on.
Any help to get it started would be much appreciated!
