I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. I have spent a huge amount of time trouble shooting, resetting, reapplying software and finally calling Applecare without any help. It would be great to get this problem solved.

Try emptying your browser cache more often. If you are using Safari, from the menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Empty Cache
Try a video on FB. If can't stream Flash content, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
If that doesn't help, try deleing Flash cookies >  Flush.app – Flash Cookie Removal Tool For OS X | MacHacks.TV

  • Dodge and burn plugin, how good is it?

Can some of you that are using the new dodge and burn plugin share some of your experiences. In the tutorial it looks pretty basic, direct and easy to perform. Also it seems pretty close to what I've been doing for the last 25 years in my b/w darkroom. I wonder if someone can say something about it's performance and the results, also on black and white images. How good is it? Could I leave PS out of my workflow as far as this tool is concerned? Thanks.

I've used this plugin many times and really like it especially for knocking down a distracting part or all of the background. I haven't used it so far on B&W images although I shoot quite a bit of B&W. I've found a couple of things - (1) be very careful about the strength setting because at 100% it's dead black and (2) I tend to use the Feathering once I've got my dodge or burn about where I want it. I'll open the brush size and with about a medium strength I'll "dust" the whole area I've worked. The feathering seems to blend everything so you don't have any harsh spots. The feathering does tend to add a small amount of "dodge" to what you've done so you may have to go back and redo the area(s). I would liken this to using a "pantyhose frame" rather than a paddle in the darkroom days. You remember that trick I'm sure. I don't have any reason to believe it won't work as well on B&W. I have found the eraser can save some work if you get a little heavy on the strength setting. Finally, I tend to take a long look at the work in full screen before I hit the save button - although you can go back into the Edit with Dodge and Burn and redo areas until you get what you want. Play with it and I think you'll agree it's a valuable tool.

  • How good are the WD MyBook Studio Ed. Refurbished Replacements?

I have a Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition for Mac - External Hard Drive that is 2 years old, and has started to have problems.
It keeps running constantly and gets very warm. I unplug the cables from it, let it cool for a few minutes, replug the cables, and do a forced backup.... but the next scheduled backup, it starts up and will keep running for hours without doing the backup.
So I unplug it again, let it rest, replug, then do a forced backup, and everything repeats itself as previously mentioned.
I called WD Support this morning, and she said that I could send it in, and they would send me a refurbished replacement. I have read on other forums (tools, etc.) that people send items in for a replacement, and they get back a refurbished unit that is all banged up, and doesn't work properly.
My question is... how good is the WD refurbished replacements that they send back. Are they in good condition? Does anyone have any experience with WD on this?
I have even thought of just getting a new external HD from another company, (G-Drive, LaCie, etc), but I have seen mixed reviews on them. I like the G-Drive Solid State (no moving parts) but that is over $500.... too rich for my blood.
    Any recommendations on either question.
    Thanks,
    Jim

From what I've read on the internet WD offer poor customer service and their products are of low quality. Certainly I have experienced first-hand many WD hard drives failing, mostly with the dreaded click click click. I've only known two or three Seagates go this way in all the years I've been using hard drives (pretty much since the early days of 120MB).
It may be expensive, but I highly recommend the ReadyNAS Duo as a backup solution and / or as general network storage. I have one set up with two 1TB Seagate NS drives in mirrored mode and it works very well. Seagate NS drives are enterprise-standard, designed for use in RAID hardware where they will be in close proximity to one another, Seagate AS drives are not designed for this purpose and so may fail in this situation. Other hard drive manufacturers make enterprise-grade drives too, I'm guessing that the ones WD use in their MyBook products are not these drives though which might explain why there are so many failures. The enterprise-grade drives typically cost about £20 more but I think for reliable backup purposes it's well worth the extra expense.

  • I lost all of my music on my iPhone and must have separate iTunes account. How do I see if I have multiple accounts?

i lost all of my music on my iPhone and must have separate iTunes account. How do I see if I have multiple accounts?

It may be same computer but if a new, empty, library has been created then it is not the same library your device was synced with...
For general library squiffiness following an upgrade or crash the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup! For example grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes regardless of drive letter or path.

  • IPhone 3GS - Seriously - How Good?

Ok, had a Nokia N97, and if I had any hair, it would have been all pulled out at this stage. Terrible terrible handset, no support from the retailer ( here in Saudi ) and jaw droppingly shocking Customer care from Nokia.
Please don't be offended when I say this, but this an Apple Forum so naturally expect some bias towards the company. I am an Apple fan too, and have had several Mac computers and laptops, currently running a 13" Mac BOok Pro, Snow Leopard.
But I would a truly objective view from iPhone users on the phone. How good is it really?
Things I would use it for?
Phone calls. Obvious I know, but my N97 could not handle calls without freezing / locking.
    Interent - Joikuspot usage.
Texting - how good it is the virtual on screen phone.
    Stability -
    Pics.
Calendar ( and of course seamless syncing with my MBP.
    Thanks in advance.
BTW, the the iPhones here in Saudi are sold unlocked, but a lot more pricey than in the UK / Europe / USA.

    Seriously?! OK
I am Windows Mobile user for years. Recently I needed an upgrade. The market is full with excellent hardware and I needed a phone with keyboard as I use that a lot. While the hardware is good WM did not catch up with the technology. Nokia do not impress me at all (bad experience with N80 and N85), or any other phone.
I went to O2 and they let me play with the iphone and I liked it. Also, in the UK (don't know anywhere else) I have 14 days to return it back for full refund (other than the warranty) and no questions asked.
I was impressed with how sleek, simple and fast the UI on iphone 3Gs is. As for the virtual keyboard I got used to it very fast and I can type as fast as on a hardware keyboard (not to mention the phone is slim cause of it).
The second important thing is the update I get from Apple. No longer I am at the mercy of my provider or manufacturer. There are a lot more powerful hardware than the Iphone but they are let down by an outdated OS.
I had it now for about 2 months. Not a hitch. Everything just works. Fantastic speed on WiFi. I recharge it once a day (with 30% left over). I use the internet heavily, with occasional (but daily) Youtube, movies and music.
GPS is brilliant and never let me down and it grabs a signal very fast than any other phone I have used before. Faster than my dedicated TomTom software and hardware.
Bluetooth works just fine with my car BT kit.
    Camera ... Don't care
As a phone it is crystal clear and I always have good signal and latches well when there is a weak signal and even when there is 1 bar I can still make crystal clear calls.
Text wise, no complaint. once you get used to the keyboard it is child play.
It never let me down stability wise. I am not in an office, I work in the field and I need it to work really good to communicate with colleagues.
I have over 56 apps with about 5 games applications and I am heavy on documents and pdf files which I keep on the phone (as references).
I never ever had to reset the phone so far.
I use WiFi a lot, with O2 i get the BT openzone and the cloud networks for free (not all of them but a lot) and works extremely well.
I am a news freak, and I have 10 apps for news and football and I read them all daily. Plus my facebook update and blogging update right from the phone.
I use it with geocaching and it is great fun if you have the time. The compass is brilliant here.
it fits well in my hand, slim, sleek and very responsive.
I use Windows Vista 32 bit and outlook email client and never had problems synchronizing with them.
I backup once a day (everything) with itunes.
I also manually backup the itunes folder (just in case). All my purchases (except music) are made from the phone itself.
The phone came with 3.1.1 firmware already in it and I only updated it once (as soon as I got it) to 3.1.2.
It does not like synching with other phones (did not investigate as no big deal for me) using BT but great with the car kit (4 years old).
it is not cluttered with buttons and I like that.
I wish it can multitask as not all application get you back to where you left off last time you used it.
I also wish it had a Radio, HSPDA or HSUPA. But no big deal and I am doing fine without them.
I have 6 emails with push or poll, BT always on and so is wifi. I come home with about 30% left and do not recharge till 10 pm, I take it off around midnight. I use it as my alarm clock (**** very loud and I need it ).
it gathers a lot of finger prints - non issue to me and I like polishing it
    Hope this helps.

  • We have many mappings, which one is good in performance wise ?

We have many mappings, which one is good in performance wise ?

    HI
Different Mapping Techniques are available in XI. They are: Message Mapping, XSLT Mapping, Java Mapping and ABAP mapping.
u2022The integration repository includes a graphical mapping editor. It includes built-in functions for value transformations and queue and context handling.  There is an interface for writing user-defined functions (java) as well.
u2022XSLT mappings can be imported into the Integration Repository; java methods can be called from within the XSLT style sheet. Advantages of this mapping are: open standard, portable, extensible via Java user-defined functions.
u2022If the transformation is very complex, it may be easiest to leverage the power of Java for mapping.
u2022ABAP mapping programs can also be written to transform the message structures.
    Message Mapping
SAP XI provides a graphical mapping tool that generates a java mapping program to be called at run time.
u2022Graphically define mapping rules between source and target message types.
u2022Queue-based model allows for handling of extremely large documents.
    u2022Drag-and-drop.
    u2022Generates internal Java Code.
u2022Built-in and user-defined functions (in Java)
    u2022Integrated testing tool.
    u2022N:M mapping is possible.
    JAVA MAPPING:
Usually Java mapping is preferred when the target structure is relatively complex and the transformation cannot be accomplished by simple graphical mapping.
For e.g. consider a simple File->IDoc scenarion where the source file is a simple XML file, whereas the target file is an IDoc with more than one hierarchy level e.g FINSTA01. Content conversion in XI can only create a single level hierarchy, so in this scenario a Java mapping would come in handy.

    /people/thorsten.nordholmsbirk/blog/2006/08/10/using-jaxp-to-both-parse-and-emit-xml-in-xi-java-mapping-programs
    When to use Java mapping
    1) Java mapping are used when graphical mapping cannot help you.
    Advantages of Java Mapping
1)you can use Java APIs and Classes in it.
    2) file look up or a DB lookup is possible
    3) DOM is easier to use with lots of classes to help you create nodes and elements.
Java mapping can be used when you have complex mapping structures.
    ABAP MAPPING:
ABAP mappings are mapping programs in ABAP objects that customers can implement using the ABAP Workbench.
An ABAP mapping comprises an ABAP class that implements the interface IF_MAPPING in the package SAI_MAPPING. The interface has a method EXECUTE with the some signature.
Applications can decide themselves in the method EXECUTE how to import and change the source XML document. If you want to use the XSLT processor of SAP Web AS, you can use the ABAP Workbench to develop a stylesheet directly rather than using ABAP mappings.
In ABAP mapping you can read access message header fields. To do this, an object of type IF_MAPPING_PARAM is transferred to the EXECUTE method. The interface has constants for the names of the available parameters and a method GET, which returns the respective value for the parameter name. The constants are the same as in Java mappings, although the constant MAPPING_TRACE does not exist for ABAP mappings. Instead, the trace object is transferred directly using the parameter TRACE of the method IF_MAPPING~EXECUTE.

    ABAP Mapping Vs Java Mapping.
Re: Message Mapping of type ABAP Class not being shown
Re: Performance of mappings (JAVA, XSLT, ABAP)
    XSLT Mapping
XSLT stands for EXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations. It is an XML based language for transforming XML documents into any other formats suitable for browser to display, on the basis of set of well-defined rules.
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/03/15/using-xslt-mapping-in-a-ccbpm-scenario
    /people/anish.abraham2/blog/2005/12/22/file-to-multiple-idocs-xslt-mapping
The above menotined are the mapping present in the XI.
When it is critical and complicate we go for the ABAP,JAVA or XSLt mapping. For simple Mapping we go for the graphical mapping.
the selection of mapping also depends upon the requirement and alos on our scenario.
    cheers

  • How difficult is it to learn BPM Suite, provided you are good in BPEL

    Hi All
I have good experience in Oracle SOA SUite 11g, particularly in implementing BPEL.
I want to know how tough is it to learn Oracle BPM Suite 11g. I'm not going for any training, Want to learn it myself.
Concepts wise, how different is BPM Suite from BPEL?
Please help me in this regard.
As always, I follow Handbooks from Oracle Press.
I've done it for ADF, SOA, and now, I want to do it for BPM too.
How good is that book, and please give me any other resources, keeping in mind, I'm a beginner for BPM Suite.
    Regards
    RaviKiran
    Blog : www.soatutor.com

From my experience I feel BPEL has much more capability than BPM/BPMN. From learning point of view it is easier than BPEL as it has got fewer components compared to BPEL. Oracle Handbook cover basic topics like Hello World programs. Advance topics are hard to find on the web for BPM.

  • Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to...

Does anyone know how good the SAMPSON USB mic is compared to having a dedicated audio interface with lets say a good condenser mic?
I am going to be doing some vocals and need a very good quality recording.
It just seems pretty simple right now to use a high quality USB.....
Rather than getting an interface (which I will be getting down the road)
but how "high" is the quality of the Sampson USB mic? Say even compared to
an AKG condenser?? Will I get 90% of the way there compared to an AKG mic and an dedicated audio interface (like the firepod or m-audio-410)
and also if anyone knows will the difference in audio interfaces affect the actual recording quality by a great difference?
    thanks, technoreid

I have a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic that I use most of the time.
    PRO
To be honest it's really a lot of bang for the buck (about $90 at Sam Ash Music) and incredibly simple to use.
It's well-built (the screen is very rugged, and it has a good amount of heft to it.
Given that GB 3 has a lot of decent vocal presets (and software outboard equipment) in it now (with radio/podcast settings and voice over stuff) you can get it to sound pretty good. In that sense, I think it is an ideal podcast or voice over mic.
It's easy to use, just like GB itself. I am a BIG fan of using equipment that is intuitive and does not thwart the creative process, and the Samson fits the bill. Pull it out of its storage bag; plug in the USB cord into the mic and then into the USB port of your Mac and Voila! you're in business.
    CON
You are limited by the length of a USB chord, whereas XLR cables into a firewire analog to digital piece of outboard gear will have XLR in, and XLR cables are the standard for long distances mic usage.
One track, mono at a time. There is no way (that I know of) to effectively do simultaneous stereo recording. But if you are using GB as a composition tool (as I do) you do most of your instruments in GB and only vocals (and maybe guitars) live and only one at a time.
You get what you pay for. Is the Samson C01U as good as a Neumann U87 into a tube-based Analog to digital preamp? Is it the way I would record vocals for a major record release? No. But the difference isn't like listening to a scratched 78 rpm shellack record versus a digital recording either. For most applications, the difference is minimal. How much? I don't have the testing instruments to quantify.
But then again, there's something to be said for spending $90 versus $3,800 (SRP) for a U87 and $2,300 (SRP) for a PreSonus ADL-600 Stereo Hi Volt Tube Mic Preamp......
