I have Firefox 3.6.18 on my Ubuntu (Linux) netbook pc, is a newer version for this OS? For Windows I know you have version 5.0.

That's about it for my question.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; '''''yours is a PPC Mac''''') '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher.
*System Requirements: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 4] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 5] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 6] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 7] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/8.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 8] [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/9.0/system-requirements/index.html Firefox 9]
'''''The good news''''' is that Firefox 3.6.x still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. '''''The bad news''''' is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

You can try the third-party product '''''TenFourFox''''' that supports PPC Macs with OSX 10.4.11 and OSX 10.5.8. Firefox 9 version of '''''TenFourFox''''' is available. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

  • When I try to load firefox 4, I am asked do I want it to replace a newer version?

that's about it. I always decline the FF 4.o because I am told I have newer version.

A program you installed decided to include the Ask Toolbar. (Note the "AskTbBCPA/3.7.0.231" in your User Agent string).
Close Firefox, then uninstall this with Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
Then reset your home page as you'd like. See [[How to set the home page]]

  • This AM I found that Firefox was longer pinned to the taskbar, found lots of files, got new icon for exe pinned, but none of my bookmarks are there.

Was also seeing little Chinese or Korean characters next to tabs, so I'm thinking previous download was hacked? Never found anything missing before though, so I figured that was just an anomaly.
Anyway, I'm hoping that I can use some of the files that are still hanging around (files I can't open) and thinking they probably have all of my settings stowed away in there - like I see one labeled "cookiejar" and plenty of others that only the program can read.
Please let me know if I need to start from scratch.
    Thanks,
    JH

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Bonjour for windows: "The printer you have selected is no longer available"

Whenever I go to try and set up sharing my imacs printer with wifes windows computer, the bonjour for windows app at first sees my two printers, but as I select them I then get a message stating that "the bonjour printer you have selected is no longer available. Please make sure the printer is powered on and plugged in." It of course is on, powered and plugged in, and receives print jobs from my mac. I have also configured printer sharing in OS X 10.6 to allow for "everyone" to print. Don't get any firewall messages either.
Same problem happens for me when I am trying to connect from windows running under Parallels on my ibook.
Has anyone run across this problem and can offer guidance? I'm running out of hair to pull out!
    Thanks in advance,
"I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC... and we're trying to play nicely together." (mumble-mumble-grumble...)

Problem solved!! Somehow. After being in try everything and anything mode (remove/add printer, update drivers (again), shut down/restart, etc), I think I solved the problem my changing sharing permissions. I still couldn't print though. Kept getting the "printer cannot be contacted over the network" error message. After much searching and reading things I didn't really understand, I noticed I kept running across this statement that Windows 7 does not play well with DHCP and the printer should be assigned a static IP address. I found this forum item that tells simply how to do that: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1725525. The big thing was that it had me add the printer as a local printer where I had been trying to add it as a network printer. I never would have thought to do that. Then you put in the Airport address and that's it. It worked!
This whole thing made it very clear why I moved from Windows to Mac. I should never have had to spend a whole day trying to get a network printer to print. Good luck to everyone having this issue.

  • I have the latest flash, but firefox says it has disabled it and encourages me to get a newer one. This is nonsense,

    OS: Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick)
I am not able to use the APT for ubuntu because I'm behind a proxy. Installing the libflashplayer.so version 10.3.181.34 directly (downloading from adobe) doesn't work - Firefox claims that it has disabled it "for my safety." What? Just let me enable it. My browser is the 64-bit version.

If you have a 64 bit Firefox version then you need a 64 bit Flash plugin.

  • I am running Firefox 3.5.4. When I try to upgrade to a newer version I get "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections." Then, I have to re-install 3.5.4 to get to the internet. I have Windows XP. How do I fix this?

Any version of Firefox above 3.5.4 I try to install will not let me get to the internet. Each Firefox gets upgraded it keeps giving me the error message that "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections." Then I need to re-install 3.5.4 to get to the internet. This is driving me nuts! How do I fix this?

    You're welcome

  • WHY Firefox 4 shows up titlebar on Ubuntu Linux?

I'm kinda fed up with this new feature. I cannot remove my titlebar or can't put my tams in titlebar like chrome. Though it was easy to put it in previous versions via Hide Caption addon.
with STYLISH off I have this -> http://imm.io/4vBm
Also the scrollbars in linux are so damn ugly http://imm.io/4vBk
Please do update me as soon as possible

Firefox 4 doesn't run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/4.0/system-requirements/
For a Firefox 4 version that runs on Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.8 (PPC) you can look at:

  • When I try to install Firefox with the 6.0 setup, it says it's not a valid win32 application, this is on windows xp any way to fix?

It is an oldish computer running windows XP, moving to firefox since I used it on my laptop and wanted to put it on this computer. I ran the setup and it says it is not a valid win32 application and closes, well i say close, it barey opens. i also tried saving the setup and runnig it that way but that failed as well. I might just download an older version of firefox, but I'd love to use the latest one.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

David.  Thank you very much.   The problem was not with the canvas but rather the Viewer.  But the solution was the same.  Somehow, the Viewer window was re-set to Alpha.  I changed it back to RGB.... and the picture is back.   These issues are often very simple.... but they can drive you bats if you don't know the answer.   Very grateful.  Tim

  • Firefox 7 cannot load new version of Pandora radio but other programs can.

Recently downloaded Firefox 7 and all worked well until Pandora Radio came out with new version which doesn't work in Firefox 7. Is there a newer version of Firefox that will solve this problem?

Pandora does work with Firefox 7...but if you're having trouble like I was after updating FF, you'll need to uninstall it and then reinstall without any addons. Then one-by-one, add the addons that you like and try Pandora after each addon installation. If it stops working, you'll have to uninstall FF and then go through the procedure again. The addon that was causing Pandora to fail to complete the load process for me was Flashblock. Once I reinstalled without this addon, Pandora worked great.

  • Firefox can't find my printer under linux

Even though it is shown in about:config firefox shows no printer when I want to print something.
This has been a problem for some time. Why don't you guys concentrate on getting Firefox right rather than adding more useless crap. I would just like to be able to print, I don't need the other crap. Why write 10,000 lines of code to automatically find a printer when people can open up the preferences and just type in their printer. I realize most Firefox users are dumb asses, but surely they know which printer they have. This is Microsoft windows thinking, where you believe the software has to do everything and the user just has to sit there with a blank stare while the computer decides for them everything they need.

Firefox simply ain't a usable browser under linux anymore, try chrome or something
else but firefox has become a disaster. SLow, no print support , every other week a new version with unwanted new buggy features without ever fixing the bugs in existing versions and keeping the existing bugs in new versions alive.

  • I am using Firefox 3.3.23 which works fine for me. Whenever I try a newer version, I find that I can read my email, but I am not allowed to send email messages. Is there a fix for this problem so I can switch to the latest version of Firefox??

I am using a web-based email system maintained by my university, not gmail or yahoo or outlook.

Firefox 3.6 needs the Java Second Generation Plugin which comes with newer versions than 1.6.0_03 - update Java, the latest version is 1.6.0_22

    Hi Ianpce,
You need to download and install Adobe Acrobat on the new machine to use it.
You can use the same subscription or the serial number to activate the product.
