I have Firefox 3.6 and cannot update on this Mac--when I try the message is unable to connect to server

Firefox message was that updates since 3.6 were not on computer and so the most current version is not available. Is this true and what can I do to upgrade Firefox on this Mac with 10.5.8 Operating System. Do I have to buy another computer?

If you are on a PowerPC the latest version is 3.6.23 which can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
