I have firefox set to open my homepage. But it keeps opening tab pages from last time
in the options general tab, I have one homepage upon startup. But, Firefox 28 ignores this option. Instead it open what had opened the last time.
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Note that you seem to have crash recovery and closed windows and tabs disabled.

Usually, the "notify" setting works fine. I don't know whether having Yahoo as the home page makes a difference. ??

Configured all browsers to start from previous session everytime. But whenver I open any browser it opens with the Homepage. Please let me know how to fix this issue.
That shouldnt be the solution I guess. I have to do that every time I open any browser. Also I usually have minimum 10 tabs open in all browsers so I don't think thats a feasible option of reopening it. I use safari, chrome and mozilla and none of them restores the last session on startup.

That would be very surprising but a change was made to Firefox 4 to always have the choice of going to History ("Alt+S") and choose "Restore previous session".
With Firefox 5 coming out in a few days (June 21-22) you might try again then, if the solution the developers built in does not work for you. Do you know about pinning tabs ('''app-tabs''') they persist across sessions as a convenience -- if I really want to keep something permanently then I would bookmark such things as a group. Because they can be closed easily. -
I noticed when I restart Firefox 4, it opens my previous tabs even I set the option "Open a blank page" and it opens blank page when I have "Show my windows and tabs from last time". Please ignore my question if you're already aware of this issue. Thanks.
Your previous tabs will not re-open or be available to re-open when starting Firefox if:

My home page is Google but everytime I close Firefox it opens to the last page viewed. Startup is set to "show my homepage" but it's still not working. I've tried so many things but nothing seems to work. Can someone please give me "Simple" answer.

When closing Firefox, after reopening it, my tabs are gone, even though I have Firefox set to remember session. However, after several hours and opening and closings of Firefox, it will open tabs from the old session, for no apparent reason.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords. -
I have this problem with opening Firefox:
My Startup options are set to "When Firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time"
However, each time I start Firefox, by clicking the icon in the Taskbar, it opens with a single blank tab.
I repeat this using "Open New Window" and when I have up to 3 windows, all with single blank tabs open, I close them all. Once more I use "Open New Window" which only then opens with my windows and tabs from last time.
Naturally, this induces initial panic each time, because I dread the thought of losing all my current tabs.
What is going on here?

How do I set a specific page to open when I open a new tab in Firefox? I can open the page when initially opening Firefox, but not for subsequent tabs/pages.

Firefox does not save my tabs and windows from last time, although i have already set it so (on a Macbook) (newest version)
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

Pretty much this: I have firefox set to delete personal information (log in to websites) when I close it ... However firefox instead doesn't delete anything, keeps the cookies, and when I reopen firefox I'm still logged in (to websites like facebook). What do?
Privacy settings aren't working even though they're all appropriately checked off.
I think Firefox is saving cookies??Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.

Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.

You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)

I installed a security program called Identity Finder whick requires a master password for Firefox on my laptop, which I like. However, even though my settings are to "Show my windows and tabs from last time," I have to manually add each link in a new tab each time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Pure speculation, but maybe that Identity Finder program is deleting your browsing history which is how Firefox restores tabs and windows from the previous session. Check with technical support for that program or look at the manual.

Firefox shows windows from last time, how to clear last open tab?
I have Firefox set to restore my previous session when starting.
The last tab open doesn't have an 'x' to close it. When pressing ctrl+w it will close the window in such a way that next time I open firefox it'll restore the previous tab.
Is there a way to make it close the last tab then exit when ctrl+w is pressed? This so that I can have a fresh session by clearing the last one on exit.Try doing this:
# Goto Tools>>Options and open the General Tab.
# Look beneath the Startup Section and check the "When Firefox Starts:" Field. If it is "Show My Windows and Tabs from Last Time", change it to "Show my Homepage" to display your home page or "Show a Blank Page" to display a blank page.
That should sort out your problem. If it doesn't let us know and we'll see what else can be done.
