I have forgotten the root password

I have forgotten the root pasword on my powerbook, how do I reset it?

Well, likely any PB could install 10.5.x, but whehter a newer more worthless, more demanding  OSX would help is your decision...
Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Trouble is appl no longer sells it, you have to search eBay & such for the full retail version, not any grey Install Disc.
There are workarounds if the 867MHz is the only hangup...

I have forgotten the iPod password.  How do I start over so I can use it with iTunes?

    Hello Larry
What you would need to do is put your iPod nano into Disk Mode and then plug it in to your computer to then restore it in iTunes. Check out the article below for the steps to do that.

  • I was trying to update my ipod to iOs 5 but I have forgotten the backup password

I was trying to update my ipod to iOs 5 but I have forgotten the backup password help please?

You need to restore your iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.  That is the only choise.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

  • How do I reset the administrator password if I have forgotten the previous password?

When I bought my iMac I used my Apple ID as my administrator password. I have since changed my Apple ID but failed to keep a record of the old one (stupid I know!) and I now need the administrator password to download software. Can anyone help me to
    1) recover the old administrator password or
    2) set up a new administrator password
without losing all the data and photos on my iMac?

  • HT5787 I made a HD with Yosemite to be used as a startup disk. I have forgotten the adm password for this disk. How can i reset the adm password?

Change adm login password running the MacBookPro from an external disk.

Restart holding the Command and R keys, then from Utilities on the menu bar select Terminal.  When the Terminal opens, type at the cursor EXACTLY:
    resetpassword
    and press Enter.
When the Reset Password window opens, select the drive then select the user account.  Type a new password twice, leave the Hint blank, Save and accept the next dialog that opens.  At the bottom of the Reset Password window agree to reset the user's home directory permissions,
Go to the apple left side of the menu bar and Restart.

  • I have an old emac I want to use and have forgotten the master password. Is there anyway to reset it?

How to reset master password for an OLD emac.

Thanks. I wish I had that info earlier. Unfortunately I got a set of OS emac installation disks and tried to install and start over  which basically erased everything. There were 16 disks and when I got to disk twelve it "failed" and asked to try again. I went through the whole process again and same message again.
Now I am stuck with the installer which wants me to install disc 2 to continue installation. It won't let me do anything else.
I know there must be a way to erase and start over but I'm not sure where to start.  Any ideas?

  • I have forgotten the password

I have forgotten the admin password on my macbook pro with lion. Other people with the same problem ficed it by going into "recovery mode" (or something similar), but when I try it asks for the password. Is it possible to recover it in some way (losing data is not a problem since I have backup). And is there a way to format it or recover from time machine without the password?

    Hi
Apologies...yes the Capcha issue is currently under investigation.
Customer Services can't change your password they can only send the link which again would take you to the Capcha.
As  advised you can use the PAYG text services to check add-on balances in the meantime.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.
    Thanks.

  • I have forgotten my Master password , help !

I have forgotten my Master password , what should I do , please be precise as I am barely computer literate .

Please clarify if you are talking about the Master Password associated with FileVault, or your standard everyday login password.
If you're talking about FileVault's Master Password it is possible to reset the it, but it still requires all users with FileVault-protected accounts to know their passwords. If a user has forgotten his or her login password, and you have forgotten the master password, there is no way to recover the user's data.
If you forget the master password, you can reset it, but you must know the passwords for any accounts with FileVault enabled:
    1.
As an administrator user, delete the master password keychain file (/Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain). When the master password keychain is deleted, Mac OS X assumes that no master password is set yet.
    2.
In Security preferences, set a new master password.
    3.
Log in to each account that has FileVault turned on, and use Accounts preferences to reset the password for each account.

  • Just bought a new iMac, I am in screen saver mode and have forgotten the password ?

Just bought a new iMac, I am in screen saver mode and have forgotten the password ?

This link will tell you exactly how to reset your password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
In OS X Lion or later, you can reset your user password with your Apple ID.
In Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier, follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, that administrator account may be used to reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed).  Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.
Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the disc yet.
Note: The default keyboard layout is U.S. English while started from the installation disc. If you use a keyboard layout other than U.S English, use the Input menu (the flag icon on the right side of the menu bar) to select the desired layout before typing a new password.
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Select the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.
    Enter a new password.
    Click Save.
Click the red button in the upper left corner to quit the application.
Choose Quit Mac OS X Installer... from the Mac OS X Installer menu.
    Click Restart.
After following these steps, you'll want to also follow the steps in this article.
Mac OS X v10.6: Resetting the original administrator account password on a Mac that has no optical drive
These steps require a second computer that has an optical drive.Note: If the second computer is a Mac, make sure Mac OS X v10.5.3 or later is installed. If the second computer is a PC, make sure the DVD or CD Sharing Update 1.0 for Windows is installed.
Open "Remote Install Mac OS X" from the Utilities folder.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
For more information, see Sharing DVDs or CDs with Remote Disc.

  • Just updated my iphone. Now I can se I have two? iCloud accounts? One of them appears on my phone, and I have forgotten the password. When I try to add the other account, I get the message that this account is already added, but with the name of the first

Just updated my iphone. Now I can se I have two! iCloud accounts? One of them appears on my phone, and I have forgotten the password. When I try to add the other account, I get the message that this account is already added, but with the name of the first account where there is no available password. I have tried several times to reset the password, bun I don't get the information I need - I have no access to email. What can I do?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks
