I have found an ipod 160gb with serial number

It has serial number and an engraving that says "RACING IS LIFE AV JR 7/11" on the back, i found it near my house in downtown st petersburg, FL. how can i find it's owner? it has been a while since we found it but i'm sure no less it's owner would appreciate it back. Anyone know how to find the owner from the serial number? i'm sure by now they arent looking on any sites for it and have given up or bought a new one, yet i feel like the right thing is to find them and return it. Please help?

Tracking Ipod touch with Serial number

My son just got his ipod touch in April and lost it over the weekend in Gilbert AZ, I know the serial number, how cam I trackit, it does not have any trcaking apps on it.
The safari and other apps are locked so whoever finds it cannot use it for a lot of things.
How can i track it with just the serial number?

that is not entirely true, but the only way to "track" it would be once it is connected to a computer, and connected to iTunes...i would suggest calling Apple support to see how this is done.

I found an Ipod Shuffle and I called Apple Support desk to return it to the rightfull owner. I offered them to send my contact details to the owner. And then the owner can contact me if he likes. They refused to do this as it is a privacy issue. They advised me to bring it to the local police who can send the request to a special e-mail address of Apple. Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

This has been reported numerous times in the past. It seesms that from time-to-time the response system responsible for sending the key goes away.
