I have had a hard drive crash housing my aperature library. How do I recreate my library from my vault

My external hardrive hosting my aperature library has crashed. I have a aperature vault on my backup drive. How do I recreate my library?

Hi Bernie. Sorry about your crash. Searching the on-line User Manual for "Restore from Vault" brings up this page with full instructions.

HT203167 I had a hard drive crash & lost all of my music. Most of it came from ripping my CDs, which I can do again. I'd like to clear my iTunes library without emptying my iPod too. Can I do this?

When I tried to remove the existing library so I could start ripping again, I got a message that said that all of the library entries I delete will be removed from my iPod next time I sync. I do NOT want to do that. It will take me some time to rip all of my CDs again, and I don't want to have an empty iPod in the meantime.
Is there a way to clear my iTunes library of all of the invalid songs (which is most of them) and not have them deleted from my player?

Unfortunately I do not. I had all of my music on this external drive that crashed. I have a replacement drive now but the re-ripping process will be slow to come. I just basically wanted to start with a `clean slate' in iTunes without emptying the contents of my iPod.

My external hard drive crashed but all my data was recovered. All the iPhoto library stuff is in a folder but I'm not sure if I should just copy it all into a new library...or what. If not, how do I figure out which are the photo files and what is not needed.

Drop the folder you recovered onto the iPhoto icon in the Dock. If iPhoto opens and you see your library then you've dodged a bullet. If iPhoto doesn't open then you'll have to start over with a new library.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select the option to create a new library. Then open the recovered folder and drag the Masters folder (if there is one) or the Originals folder into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same events as your old one.

Fortunately much of my data was backed up either on icloud or my ipad but I haven't been able to find any information about restoring it FROM icloud or ipad TO my Mac, only about how to restore to an ios device. I guess what I meant to say was that I can log on to icloud to see my contacts, calendars, etc but is there a way to get that data onto my computer? Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

I recently had a hard drive crash. I replaced the C: drive with a solid state and now have 3 internal HDs. C: for the OS (Windows 7), D: for data and P: for program installation. Because I replaced the C: drive, I had to re-install all my programs. Now, PhotoShop will not let me place text, inserting the text tool causes the program to stop responding. In InDesign, if I try to place a MS Word document, it acts as if I never did that action and I can't get it placed.
I can copy and paste, but doing so makes the formatting get left behind. I suspect it may not have installed correctly. I've used Adobe products since 1991 and never had this happen before. I even used Aldus PageMaker before the Suites were available. Can anyone help? Is it a reinstallation issue?
I use PhotoTools from OnOne and if I uninstall it to reinstall CS4, I'm afraid it will no longer honor my product key.
I will not give up until this work like it used to. I'm too old to upgrade.

The faulty HD was replaced with a solid state one and that works fine. The fan that caused the errors on the old HD was removed. The system is probably not an issue since I had to reinstall my Windows 7 and it was the only thing installed on the C: drive. I have another drive that I run programs from and one other that I use only for data. Plus a backup drive. The BIOS was reset. The only remaining problems I have are trying to find the software for the web cam driver and I think I will just download it again and my problem with PhotoShop and InDesign. Those two are the sticky ones,I depend on those programs. They work, even my PhotoTools plugin works. The only problems seem to be using the type tool in PS and placing MS Word documents (.docs and .docxs) I think the program must not have installed correctly but I'm afraid if I reinstall it, it might be worse and then I might have to reinstall PhotoTools. That would require calling the company again because when I reinstalled it the last time, it said that it couldn't accept the product #, it had been used before. Yeah, by me. I called them and they gave me a new number, but I don't know if they will be happy if I do that again. So, my best bet is to see if I can fix those two functions. if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps. the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

iCloud Backup is for your iPad, not for your computer.
Whatever you bought from iTunes is yours forever and can be downloaded as many times as you want. This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Here is the procedure for your reference.
On a computer, launch iTunes. Click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
"Sign in" using the Apple ID used to purchase your songs, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.
Whatever you have that did not originate from iTunes will have to be obtained from whatever means you used to obtain it in the past.

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
         you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
         by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your

Begin by opening the iTunes program and going to the iTunes Store via the iTunes Store button in the top right.
Once you're at the iTunes Store, click on the Sign In button at the top left corner (if you're not signed in) or on your account name in the same location (if you're already signed in).
This will bring you to your iTunes account. In the top box, you'll see a section labelled Computer Authorizations towards the bottom. Next to it is a button that reads Deauthorize All. Click it.
A window will pop up asking you to confirm that this is what you want to do. Continue.
In just a few seconds, all 5 computers on your account will be deauthorized.
Now, re-authorize just the computers that you still use and you'll be all set.

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

What happens when you drag it?
Make sure the drive you are moving the files to has enough available space to receive the file:
Click on the movie file and go to File > Get Info and note the "size"
Check the drive to which you are moving the file to make sure it has enough available space: https://idisk.me.com/madisonfile-Public/web/finder-drive-available-space-and-for mat.html
Also note the format of the drive you are copying too. If it is not Mac OS Extended or FAT (not recommended unless you are taking it to a windows computer) then that may be the issue.

Quick thing to try: from the Finder, select the View menu and then select "Clean Up" in case it has wandered somewhere almost off the desktop. Also, if it is "hiding" behind something, it will be revealed.
