I have HD video in the AVCHD format that I need to compress and put on a Standard definition DVD.  Any suggestions?

I am trying to get multiple games on one DVD without compromising the quality of the HD video too much.  Any suggestions on the bit rate to get a small file size and still good quality to watch on an HD televison set.
I am not putting the video ono Blu-ray.
Do I need to change to 720x480 and adjust the bitrate to find the sweet spot?
Thanks

Typical workflow for best quality results: bring your media into a video editor like FCP edit and export separate Pro Res master files. Using an authoring program like DVD Studio Pro or Adobe Encore, create your menu and sub menus linked to the individual movies.
Bring the Pro Res files into Compressor and set up a batch. Duplicate the DVD Disc Burning  presets for video and audio. For the video, in Frame Controls set Resize Filter to Best. Un the Encoder, drop the average bit rate to 7 Mbps. Set the Mode to 2 Pass VBR, Name and save this custom setting. In the Dolby Digital Inspector change Dialogue Normalization to -31. Name and save this custom setting.
Submit a short, representative test of a section of one of your movies by marking it in the preview window, Burn a disc without a menu and test it on your player to make sure it plays without glitches and that the image quality is acceptable. Make adjustments as needed.
When satisfied, make you DVD with your menu.
Note: If you don't have access to DVDSP or Encore, get hold of a copy of iDVD and use the Pro Res files directly.
Good luck.

VC6. is rather old, but you can try to convert the VC6 project using the upgrade wizard of VC2012. Depending on the content of the project your code will work more or less without problems, at least it will compile without errors.
You could also go the 2nd way and create in VC2012 a project type using the wizard that is very similar to your current VC6 projcet (MDI, SDI, Dialog Based, ...). Than you replace the files generated by the wizard with the content of your project. Sometimes
    this way is more successful.
But at all the automated converting success depends on the code of your VC6 project. I had both, conversions without big problems and also conversions that need a lot changes to run on a current VC version.
    Best regards

I have a MacBook White, early 2009 model, just downloaded/installed OS X Lion.  Everything worked well with Snow Leopard - Mathematica, pogo.com games. Now, with Lion, I am getting a box that states I need J/Link, and/or java runtime.  Software update feature states all software is up to date.  Help.

I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.

  • Cameras that use the AVCHD format

I was trying to decide, for a possible future purchase, between the Panasonic AG-AF100 and the Sony FS 100UK.
However, I am having reservations now. I am not conversant with the intricacies of the various codecs and someone mentioned in an article that thet would not use the AVCHD format under any circumstances. Probably a biased viewpoint no doubt but it has me thinking and now hesitant.
Can anyone advise me as to whether this is a detriment when thinking of these two cameras since they both use the AVCHD format? At the moment I am using a Canon XH A1s.
I hope this is not a dumb post. Please go easy on me :-)
    Trevor

Well, I can tell you that there is a substantial improvement when going from HDV to AVCHD. It's very visible. I just cut some HDV footage for the first time in years yesterday, after cutting mostly AVCHD for the last 3-4 years now. It was painful to look at, even though it was 1080.
As for AVCHD in general, it's not the easiest format to edit. It is highly compressed. That being said, Premiere Pro CS6 and a quality Nvidia GPU combine to make editing AVCHD almost a non-issue nowadays.
I know plenty of folks who shoot on AVCHD cameras and bypass the compression by recording to a separate recorder via HD-SDI or HDMI. Generally speaking it's for color correction latitude, since most serious filmmakers would prefer to capture 4:2:2 than 4:2:0.
However, I also know quite a few adventurers who do features and record directly to the AVCHD media on the AF100. One guy I know has even had it checked out by Technicolor and they said it looked great.
Here's one of his features shot on the AF100, direct to the AVCHD media onboard:
I know he recently did some other work with a Canon 5D and recording off the camera but then the 5D is bit of a different beast than the AF100 or FS100.
As for choosing between the Sony and Panasonic....well, I'm almost as big of an Adobe fanboy as I am a Panasonic fanboy. I've used the Panasonic cameras for years and I really have found that the layout of the camera controls, the depth of the camera controls and the overall image from Panasonic cameras is excellent. I've never been much impressed with Sony gear, it used to be a lot worse (when you used a Sony camera, you used to pretty much be obligated to use Sony media, Sony hardware, etc). But I've found Sony cameras to be a bit less user friendly, with a lot of things either buried in menus or not available at all when compared to their Panasonic counterparts. Just one man's opinion, take it or leave it.
I really like the images from the AF100, we've worked with it a few times now and it's quite versatile. There are, however, more options coming soon. If you are interested in being on the bleeding edge of technology, Blackmagic Design is soon releasing their first ever camera, a 2.5K sensor camera for about $3,000. Like the AF100, it doesn't include a lens but can work with most any glass out there. However, it IS the company's first foray into any kind of camera, and it's completely untested by the user community at large so if you need a camera with a confirmed workflow, it ain't ready for primetime yet.

Your source video file is probably muxed.
Neither QT Pro or iTunes has the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
See: iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
    Try MPEG Streamclip.

I have an Imac and can't view a wmv file. I tried fip4mav and it still won't open. Any suggestions? Thx.

Is the link to that wmv file publicly available?  I'd like to try it to see what I can find out about it.
You could convert it (say using iFFmpeg or EasyWMV for example).
Note, vlc, like many other mac software, is downloaded as a .dmg file.  If it doesn't automatically expand after downloading it then double click it.  It will mount on your desktop showing an icon.  You could then drag that icon to wherever you desire (i.e., copy the icon representing the mouted .dmg) or double click the icon to open it up like any other folder and drag the vlc.app program to the indicated applications folder.

Thanks for the reply with additional information.
Recent history for Premiere Elements points to the program having problems when more than 1 video card/graphics card is
being used by the computer on which Premiere Elements is running. This observation may seem contra indicated by the fact
that you say that the program did work well about 2 years ago in the same setup. But other factors may have set in with regard
to drivers, drivers versions, and driver conflicts. But this factor, does need to be ruled in or out.
Can you disable one or the other card to determine the impact of this on your problem?
But, of prime concern with regard to video card/graphics card is the use of a NVIDIA GeForce card with Premiere Elements 10.
Even if your NVIDIA GeForce were the only card, Premiere Elements 10 will not work properly unless the NVIDIA GeForce driver
version is rolled back to about May 2013. This may be one of the major factors here.
    a. Device Manager/Display Adapters and find out Driver Version and Driver Date
    b. Read the background information for the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
Also see the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the matter - also with full details of the situation and how to fix with the
    driver version roll back.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
    Thanks.

Add On...This NVIDIA GeForce situation is specific for Premiere Elements 10. You should not expect to see the problem for
    later versions of Premiere Elements.

  • I have some trouble With the graph XY, if I display a curve and try to zoom on it, it may be corrupted, or may disappeared.

In fact this happens on some computers. the graph XY causes some trouble when zooming. Sometimes, when I run my main program and open the window with the graph, it has change the displayed it overflows to the edge of the windows. Or somtimes it works but if I zoom the curves disappeared, or is corrupted.
I have this for instance on a computer with win 98 and a ATI graphic board. So I try to update all drivers but noting has changed. I try to decrease the hardware acceleration, and it seems to happen less oftenly.
Does anybody have seen that kind of trouble ?

    > I have some trouble With the graph XY, if I display a curve and try to

I think what you are describing is not due to video driver, but rather
to the way the graph works. The LV graph maps points to integer screen
coordinates and draws lines be tween those point. When the numbers are
way to large to fit on the screen, the numbers are pinned to a special
large value. When this happenson one axis but not the other, it causes
the slope of the line to change and potentially not cross the screen.
If this is the same effect I'm describing, it only takes place when you
zoom into the data by a large extent, pushing the other points about ten
to fifteen monitors away. At this point you are no longer
    looking at
measured data, but rather just on the interpolation of a line between
two points. The solution if you must have one is to resample your data
on the diagram to contain more points.

How can I have a video of my personal song That I've written in iTunes Have 3200 views in 4 hours, ? Does iTunes upload your iTunes library ?

You can't write videos with iTunes.  You can't even write anything with iTunes.  iTunes plays media, not create it.
iTunes only uploads your library if you have subscribed to iTunes Match and then it is only viewable by yourself.  It doesn't include video.
iTunes is an application that runs on your computer.  It is not the iTunes Store which is something run on Apple's corporate computer's.
I think there's terminology problems here so perhaps simplify it a bit.  Are you talking about something you have on the iTunes Store server?  I know nothing about that but I guess it is possible people (or more likely automated computer programs automatically scanning the web) have had a look and that gets flagged as a view.

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?
