I have hundreds of the same shape that needs to be converted into a symbol for easy editing. Is there a way to do this in Illustrator?
Background here may be relevant: The place I am working is currently using ai CS 3 & 5 and the files in question are converted Freehand files. I have never been a Freehand user, but apparently you were able to swap one shape for another in Freehand. The closest Illustrator equivalent that I am aware of is the symbols panel. I know how to swap one symbol for another, how to create a symbol from a piece of vector art and how to modify a symbol. What I am trying to do is convert several instances of the same object into several instances of the same symbol without having to replace hundreds of objects manually (ie. trying to get the right placement in a grid and everything).
Is there any efficient solution to the task I have in Illustrator CS 3 or CS 5?

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

Is there an option for the history such that it categorises your history into folders (one for each website, eg. one folder for Google, one for MSN, one for Youtube etc.).

Internet Explorer does this, and it's much better than having to sort through hundreds of separate URLs.

You can open the History in the sidebar (View > Sidebar > History) and click the View button and select "By Site";

There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .
Meanwhile I'll work on it and get back to you in case I get a desired solution .

I guess we actually don't have a good reason. There are 4 family members using the computer, it's usually on all the time, and I guess we thought it would be easier to be able to just jump on and off without switching. Are you referring to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com emails? Or some other email providers emails?
If the former, it should do that automatically. If the latter, no. iCloud does not (nor is it supposed to) sync non-Apple provided emails.

Welcome to the Apple community.
Only one of your libraries needs to use your iTunes Store Apple ID for home sharing. Your other computers can use their own ID for iTunes, so long as they use the same ID as all of the devices on the network for home sharing.

Mate, it's good to hear that you have gotten the iPhone 4 but sorry to burst your bubbles. Not all games can have the "saved" data ported over.
Normally when you save a game in iPhone, the memory used is in the flash memory of the device. Those that can be ported over, reason is due to the data being saved over the air and when you logged in on a new device, it recognises you via the userID.
Maybe you can try to backup your iPhone 3, and restore the file onto your iPhone 4. Not too sure if that would brick your phone though.

If you haven't done so, run Disk Utility /Applications/Utilities
to run a live verification.
The drive may be ok at the moment, but that's not to say the drive may fail at anytime.
Hopefully you have all your important data backed up just in case.

That sounds like a settings issue to me. Check with your IT depatment to make sure you have it configured properly.

I have purchased a from within an app. I submit my password for the app, and then my Apple ID. I then get the following messages "Regrant failure _ please log in with the same user that has bought this app" and that is followed by "cant conn with IT _

I have purchased an item from within the app PocketBible on my iPad. However when I try to download it I am asked for my app User Name and Password and then my Apple ID and password. I give both of these. I had the same problem. My wife had the PocketBible on her Ipad 2 and she transferred ownership to me. I had to delete the app and reinstall it from the App store(logged in with my apple ID) and its working without a problem. Aperture has the ability to work with files in their existing location. They are called "referenced masters." When you import images, you should select the "In their current location" in the "Store Files:" drop down box. Have a read of the documentation for full specifics. Unsure how you can resolve your duplication; might be some work but next time have a read of the manual first
Information for versions is stored in the Aperture database (library file). The masters can be inside the library file itself, or they can be somewhere else.
