I have a number of jpg images in a folder on my Leopard Desktop. How do I point iMovie09 to the images in this folder so I can add the images to my iMovie09 project????

Run Windows Explorer and click on Desktop in the left hand list.
On the task bar click on Tools and then Folder options then click on the View tab and in the advanced settings window you will see Show hidden files,folders etc. click on the radio button and then you will see the hidden folder in the right hand half of windows explorer

What still won't work? You have the photos in a folder on the Desktop, right? So what happens when you drag that folder onto the thumbdrive? Many such drives have a slider lock switch. Make sure it's not in the locked position.
Otherwise give us more detailed info on your setup and issue.

Suddendly a folder "myname's macbook pro" folder appeared on desktop, if I try to remove it, after some minutes it comes back. I'd like to know how to get rid of it, thanks

I'm also not a stupid kid, but everyone spills at least one thing on their laptop or their computers in their lifetimes.
Everyone? I doubt it. Many of us are careful not to let food or drink near our computers.
The computer still works , and the drink must be dry by now.
Apparently the drink did not get beyond the keyboard, which is good. You have a couple of options:
1. Use a damp (not wet) cloth to gently wipe around the keys and the trackpad being careful that there is no water seepage. (Simply take your Apple cleaning cloth or similar lint-free cloth, sprinkle a few drops of water on it, rub it together to spread the moisture). Let it dry out completely for at least 30 minutes, then repeat the procedure as often as needed. If this does not remove the residue of juice go to
2. Replace the entire keyboard. You may be able to find reasonably priced replacements on eBay. (Some people report putting the entire keyboard sans ribbon cable, in the diskwasher then letting it dry out completely. I am not suggesting or recommending procedure unless you are willing to replace the keyboard if it does not work after the procedure).

Windows XP crashed all I have is the Mozilla Folder which I saved. how can I get bookmarks etc. back?

I had an Root/System32/Hal.dll error so XP is gone I had saved the Mozilla firefox folder and the thuderbird folder when I knew I was losing the system. how do I get my bookmarks back. I can not find a profile folder in the firefox folder.

Firefox/Thunderbird profiles have always been created inside the hidden AppData folder in your Windows USER folder.
Preferences get installed there, because Windows (and other operating systems) were meant to be used by multiple users. If the preferences were saved in the Program Files folder, all users of the operating system would be using the same Firefox profile - sharing bookmarks, history, passwords, etc.

Folder outside of public_html how to access in Dreamweaver

I am sure this is simple, but cant see an example...
I am experimenting with storing some image files out side of the public_html area, so that they can only be accessed by people with a login.
But, I dont see how to do that in DW and how to sync it.
I created a local path of C:\xampp\htdocs\Photop\Pics in which I placed the jpg image and linked that on the index page.   I've set up a test site, www.photop.co.uk . This is stored under public_html/photop/Pics on the server. This means of course that anyone can type the path in and see the file in a browser
Can anyone point me in the right direction to allow me to learn how to set up the directory and ftp?

I run a member's only site off the public_html root.
The member's only folder is in a sub-folder to keep it separate from the rest of the site which is open to general public.

     MEMBERS (protected)

          +Media
          page1.php
          page2.php
          page3.php
When user clicks on the members link, they are asked for their unique name and password. Afterwards, they have full access to all content in that protected folder.   It works without any additional prompts for log-in.
Beyond that, I don't really care if they can ascertain where the images or media files are located. If it was a concern, I wouldn't publish them on the web in the first place.

I have lost my safari on my IMac desktop - how do I find it and reinstate?

My husband was on the computer last night and when i sat down to use it after him there was a message about putting something in the trash, I think I clicked no. When I woke up this morning the safari icon was not on my desktop and then remembered yesterdays message. I searched the trash but could not find anything to give me clues as to what happened. I am not computer savvy and really need computer support, but they are never open when I need them. Someone Please help me. So I can reinstate it. Thanks

These icons that go missing in the dock, are the full apps in the Application folder where they should be? Are you dragging them straight from the Applications folder to the Dock like you should be?
As for the updates, I find the best way is to use software Update in your system Preferences, mark down what updates are available and them download them as stand alone downloads from the Apple Updates site. then you always have them if you need to reinstall them. It has also proven to be a much more reliable way of installing updates, especially those which are pretty large.

Dragging images from iPhoto and onto my desktop

I want to go through all of my 10,000 photos in iPhotos and slowly copy them out so I can import them into Lightroom little by little.
I open the Photos section, and for each group of images in each section under the "Untitled Event" sections, I am dragging the images to a folder on my desktop to do this.
Is there any reason why I should not be doing it this way? Dragging them out like this makes exact copies of the images without doing anything to them, right?

Dragging the thumbnails to the folder on the Desktop will get your the modified versions of those files if you have make any edits to them. If you want just the orignal files you should follow this workflow:
1 - select the file you want to export.
2 - select the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.
3 - in the Export window select Kind=Original.
4 - export to the appropriate folder on your Desktop.
That will give you copies of the original files imported into your Library. That way you're starting Lightroom off with the originla, full sized files.

After update install, I get a folder on my desktop. Can I delete it?

I have just upgraded to 3.5, and have noticed an Adobe folder on my desktop that has two folders inside, Lightroom 3.4 & Lightroom 3.5.
Do I need these, or can I delete them?

Identify/expire Pages that have not been accessed for certain time

I would like to create a publishing portal. Many users are able to create pages. I have the requirement that if a page does not get accessed for a certain time-period - it should be flagged for deletion and the creator should be notified by email.
Expiration policies depend on creation/modification date. Does this work for the last-accessed time (whereever I get this information from) aswell?

I accidently removed my dowload folder as well. Your tip easily put it back in the dock, but now the folder opens differently. It used to show the most recent downloads at the bottom of a vertical list of icons. Now, a huge folder opens up in seemingly random order. How do I get it to go back to the previous preferences?

New "Music" folder added to Desktop everytime iTunes is opened.

Every time I open iTunes 8 (Windows Vista) it automatically creates a Music folder on my desktop.
I've gone into iTunes and changed the destination folder under Preferences, but it still creates the new music folder on my desktop.
My music files are still located in my iTunes folder, but this extra folder is sort of a pain in the backside.
Any suggestions?

That's weird. You could make another Windows user, open itunes there and close it, reopen again. Does it make another desktop music folder in that other account?

Create a smart collection with criteria "collection" and "does not contain"; and also with criterion Folder contains (or folder contains all)
That works if you are thinking about a specific named collection.
If you are interested in finding photos that are not in ANY collection, the usual trick is "collection" "does not contain" "a e i o u y"
