I have imported my Aperture library to Lightroom... only got 23000 pictures out of 33000....

No real logic or pattern to the missing images

No, no, no.  Can't believe they still don't understand the plugin after all this time.  Adobe support is abysmal.  And you pay a subscription fee!
The plug-in is a great alternative, but it does have issues.  And the most important steps for migration need to be done in Aperture, which may explain their skills gap.
See this post for a partial explanation.
How did your migration to Adobe Lightroom go?
The key to NOT running out of disk space is to relocate your images from "managed" status to "referenced".  You can specify a better folder structure for your resulting Lightroom library.  Be aware that you will need some overhead, as your Aperture library (metadata) takes space, as your Lightroom catalog will, too.  But migrating "managed" Aperture images results in a full copy.
There's other considerations for Aperture previews.  Although much smaller, all previews "should" be copied.  I've actually found that the plugin fails to copy a majority of previews.
Lightroom will copy managed raw files, but will just point to referenced raw files.  If you choose to copy previews, it will copy all previews.  Not much to the plugin, but it helps to know to pre-tag images in Aperture, and make sure you do some sort of file-level compare to make sure everything is copied over.  I've made several posts on these issues under "Photo Enthusiast" in this forum.

  • Error when trying to import from Aperture Library

I'm trying to import my Aperture Library into Lightroom using the "Import from Aperture Library" plug-in. Every time I get a "?:0: attempt to index a nil value" error as soon as I click the Import button. I've tried removing Lightroom (and its ancillary files) and re-installing, I've tried different destination disks for the import, I've repaired the Aperture Library, nothing helps - the same error appears every time. I'm using a Retina iMac with OS X Yosemite and LR 5.7.1. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack

    Hi Jack
I think it may still be work in progress and you may need to wait a little. Problems have also been reported importing from iPhoto. See this thread:

  • Transfer Aperture library to Lightroom

I have to make the switch to Lightroom as my current main camera, Leica M8, is properly supported only by Lightroom.
Now after downloading Lightroom 1.0 I am trying to figure out a strategy how to transfer my old Aperture library to Lightroom. Of course I only plan to transfer originals - I have to accept that all my adjustments in Aperture are gone.
But more importantly what is a good way to transfer the existing folder & project structure of Aperture to Lightroom without too much extra work? The export function of Aperture seems a little bit limited to automatically generate a folder structure on my HD which is identical/similar to my projects and folder within Aperture.
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Tobias

You are correct, all Aperture settings will not move to LightRoom.
However, Lightroom adjustments are interchangeable with the new ACR 3.7 and ACR 4.0(CS3 beta).
ACR now supports more than 150 cameras, including the Nikon D40 and the Pentax K10D. And though the cameras don't appear on the official compatibility list, Phase One shooters will be happy to know that Lightroom and ACR now (unofficially) support a number of P1 cameras (H20, H25, P20, P21, P25, P30, & P45), and Fuji customers have preliminary support for the S5.
Transfer your data from Aperture one project at a time.
Build a similar directory structure as your project/folder structure in Aperture, then go into each project and export masters to the corresponding external structure.
Exporting masters is quick as it is only copying data.
Just do it, get it over with
Then fire up LightRoom and import.

  • Aperture won't import an Aperture library

I have Aperture updated and installed on my macbook pro and my iMac.  On vacation, I imported the photos to my MBP for review and editing.  I have done this many times in the past.  I can export the Projects or the Folder of my vacation pics to an Aperture library and can put it on the desktop of my iMac.  I cannot get Aperture to import this vacation library to add it to the main library on my iMac.
On my iMac, I selected "import library" (as I have done in the past) and it starts a process, calculating disk space and merging the libraries.  With about 3/4 of the progress bar filled, it fails and no images are brought over.
I can "Switch libraries" on my iMac and can view all of the photos in the vacation library.  The photos are there and the edits are present.  I just can't bring them over to the iMac library successfully.
Both systems are the most current version of OSX and there are no new updates available for Aperture on either my MBP or my iMac.
Anyone know how to get Aperture to import a library in the new version?  It looks like the new update of Aperture has a bug in it.

This has previously worked.  I used to do this after every vacation...  Shoot the photos, offload to my laptop, edit and delete, export the library, import the library to my iMac, done!
And that is how it is supposed to work.
Have you done any trouble shooting? Repaired and rebuild the libraries in question?
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
If not, I'd start with the repair option, if necessary also rebuild the libraries.
Before rebuilding check, if you have a current backup.
What versions of MBP and iMac do you have? There has been at least one other thread with the similar problem on a MBP, and I wonder, if the problem only occurs on specific mac models.
Aperture wont import other aperture library files - no error message?

As far as hardware restrictions, the only one I can think of is that you certainly need enough free space on your hard disk to accomodate the masters from your Aperture library.
IIn which case, ensure all your masters are "referenced" in Aperture, and that you then go to Options in the Lightroom import box and import photos in their existing locations.

    Coastal,
Frank gave you the exact answer to your question.
However, I would like to ask if you are indeed asking the right question.  Do you really want different libraries?  The implications are that you have to "switch" libraries to see what's in the others, and so that your searches don't work across all of your pictures?  If so, then you asked the right question.  If not, you may be more interested in relocating your masters to multiple hard drives so your library gets smaller, instead of breaking up the library.

    Alex,
did you just upgrade from an Aperture 3.2.x version to Aperture 3.3.1? This error message usually occures after the upgrade to 3.3.1, when Aperture cannont convert the library format to 3.3. format.
I'd try to repair the Aperture Library (Mediathek), before upgrading it. Hold down the option-command key combination (⌥⌘) while double-clicking Aperture. This will bring the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" panel forward. Select "Rebuild Database" and see, if it will resolve the the problem.
    Good luck

I bought an album back in October and have been charged the $20 but I only got two of the 16 songs. It says purchased but I can't download them. How can I get them?

You might, depending upon what country that you are in, be able to download them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone, and the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes (or try the Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option on your computer's iTunes and see if that downloads them).
If you aren't in a country where music can be redownloaded, and you never downloaded those 14 tracks, then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

I recently got apple tv but the photo stream only seems to show up those photos which I took in September and no others (ie. 20 out of around 100).  Any ideas why the earlier photos on my photo stream in ipad don't show up on apple tv?

  • I want to move my Aperture library to Lightroom.  All of my photos are on a hard drive.  Do I just click import on Lightroom or is there more to it?  All of my photos were shot in RAW.

Originally, I moved the photos in each album one by one. The task was tedious but the photos did transfer.  Eventually, I ran out of disk space.  Now I have an 8 GB dual Thunderbolt hard drive.  This time, after speaking with Adobe, I was told to just "move the photos to Lightroom by clicking import."  Is that all there is to it?  All of my photos were shot in RAW.
