I have Iphoto library in Aperture. Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging?

I have Iphoto library in Apeture. Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging (within the apeture program)? Is this making a duplicate of all the photos? It seems to work?? It then leaves my Iphoto library in apeture empty. I would like to do this just to reorganize the photos between the two. I feel that I may have doubles and would like all pictures of one year in same project in Aperture instead of going between both.

Tell us more, please. I am not quite sure, what you want to do and how you are using Aperture and iPhoto?
Which versions of Aperture and iPhoto are you using?
Do you have separate photo libraries for Aperture and iPhoto, or are you opening your iPhoto libraries in Aperture?
I have Iphoto library in Apeture.
Did you import an iPhoto library into Aperture? And now you are seeing a section "iPhoto Library" in the Aperture projects list in the Inspector?
Events and albums you imported from iPhoto (Import > Library > Some iPhoto Library) will be imported as Aperture projects and albums, and they will behave exactly as other Aperture projects and albums.
Can I move the projects from iPhoto to aperture project by dragging (within the aperture program)? Is this making a duplicate of all the photos? It seems to work?? It then leaves my Iphoto library in apeture empty.
You can drag images from any project in Aperture to other projects and that will move (not duplicate) the images and all its versions to that project. And when you drag all images from the project to another project, the remaining project will be empty and can be deleted. (Caution: Photos that you have hidden in iPhoto will not be visible in Aperture. If you are not sure, if you have hidden photos, open the library again in iPhoto and unhide all photos).
I feel that I may have doubles and would like all pictures of one year in same project in Aperture instead of going between both.
There should be no problem with moving all photos from the same years to the same projects. You can also drag projects in "Projects" view on top of each other. That will merge them.
You could also define smart albums in Aperture to search for images taken at a specific period of time:
File > New > Smart album:
Then, in the Smart Settings HUD, click "Add Rule" and add a Date or Calendar rule.
For example, to find all images taken in 2010, use a rule "Date > Capture Year is > 2010"
To search for Photos taken at a specific date or at several dates, use a "calendar" rule. This way, you do nat have to type the date, but can pick it from a mini calendar.

• How can I use the photos from iphoto to display in contacts?

Contacts has a space for a photo. At one time I knew how to populate this space with photos from iPhoto. Currently my choices are to use an icon or take a pic with the camera.
How can I add the photos from iPhoto to the choices for populating the "Contacts" image space for individual cards?

To ensure a custom ordering, sort the files in an album and rename the files with a sequentially numbered filename.
File > Export > Version/Originals
Then use "Filename > Sequential"
or "Filename > Album name with index"

• How can you move the objects from one server to another?

how can you move the objects from one server to another?

Hi,
Collecting objects for Transporting
1. rsa1->transport connection
2. left panel choose 'object type', middle panel choose 'infocube' and 'select objects'
3. then choose your infocube and 'transfer'
4. will go to right panel, choose collection mode 'manual' and grouping only 'necessary objects'
5. after objects collection finished, create request
6. If they are $TMP, then change the package.
7. When you click the Save on the change package, it will prompt for transport. Here you can provide an existing open transport request number, or if you like here itself you can create a new one.
8. You can check the request in SE09 to confirm.
Releasing Transport Request
Lets say you are transporting from BWD to BWQ
Step 1: In BWD go to TCode SE10
Step 2: Find the request and release it (Truck Icon or option can be found by right click on request #)
Note: First release the child request and then the parent request
Steps below are to import transport (generally done by basis )
Step 1: In BWQ go to Tcode STMS
Step 2: Click on Import queue button
Step 3: Double Click on the line which says BWQ (or the system into which transport has to be imported)
Step 4: Click on refresh button
Step 5: High light the trasnport request and import it (using the truck icon)

• I am moving all my iphoto pictures to seperate folders outside of iphoto. I have found iphoto slighlty cumbersome. After I move all pictures from iphoto to a separate file how can I delete all the iphoto photos without deleting the ones in the file?

I am moving all of my iphoto pictures into seperate folders becuase iphoto is great, but a bit cumbersome when I need to transfer all the pictures to a external drive.
1) After I move all pictures, how can I delete the iphoto pictures without destroying the ones I have in files
2) how can I ensure that I have sucessfully captures all the iphoto files so when I delelte from iphoto I have not forgotten any
3) is there a way to determine what duplicate pictures I have?
Thanks!

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.
Good luck,
Clinton

• Can't find the backup from iPhoto library in TM

I had 10.5 Leopard installed, and I seriously screwed it. So I got 10.6 Snow Leopard, formatted the Hard Drive and started it all from scratch.
The thing is, after installing Snow Leopard I got all my files back from TM, except the iPhoto library. I can find it nowhere! And I've looked over the 2 different external hard drives I had used to backup my data. In any of them I find the iPhoto Library under the images folder.
I've got no idea what happened. Why in the world wouldn't TM back up my iPhoto library, once I didn't add it to the list of folders TM wouldn't backup in the Pref Pane?
Does that mean I lost I may pics?

When you launch Time Machine and go back in time to you see the iPhoto library in the pictures folder (default location) before the upgrade? If so select it and click restore to bring it back

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I assume you are referring to the screensaver. You can change the photos used by the screensaver in the screensaver settings. Note if you have a large number of photos in the collection you choose for screensaver, not all of them will be used due to the limited storage available to the Apple TV.

• IMac 500Gb HD is nearing capacity. Can I move my photos from iPhoto to 1Tb external drive?

My new iMac's 500Gb HD is nearing capactiy. Due to my many photos. Can I remove all of the photos from iPhoto on iMac and export all my photos to a dedicated 1Tb external drive. And can I then manage the photos via iPhoto on my iMac? Thanks.
Art

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

Is it possible to sync the metadata from Flickr to Aperture without having previously uploaded the photos using the Aperture plugin?
I originaly uplaoded all my photos using the Aperture plugin but i had so many issues with it either deleting or re-orgaising my photos that I decided to upload everything manually. I would love however to be able to sync my metadata from Flickr back down to Aperture. Does anyone know if this is possible?

• Can't move mpeg clip from Iphoto to imovie

Im a new MacBook Pro owner. I have done my first upload of pictures and video from my digital camera. Everything is visible and and video plays in Iphoto.
In imovie, I cannot get the video clips to transfer to imovie to add to my project to my dismay. The photos easily transferred but not the video clips. A sample clip is named mov04914.mpg. Could it be a file type issue?
I have followed the tutorials- when I click in Iphoto videos in the Even Library list: nothing is listed. I have even exported to the desktop and tried to import from there- it won't allow me to select it.
HELP!!

I have followed the tutorials- when I click in Iphoto videos in the Even Library list: nothing is listed. I have even exported to the desktop and tried to import from there- it won't allow me to select it.
iMovie '08 only imports what it can edit. Other files are ignored. Muxed compression formats like MPEG-1 are not editable in iMovie. Convert them using a third-party, MPEG-based application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), or similar application.

• I created an Iphoto book...can I move the files

I created a book in Iphoto at work. I want to move this book/file to my computer at home. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is there a way to do this without recreating the book?
Thanks

Jonathan,
Old Toad likes to do this for each of his books, which he burns to DVD in case he wants to reorder in the future. It is a good way to ensure that you don't accidentally remove or edit a photo that would adversely affect the book.
Here's another cool tip from Old Toad. When the book is done he chooses Print. Inside the Print menu are PDF options. He does a "PDF to iPhoto" which makes a PDF of each book page, then imports them as jpegs into your library. Then he uses those jpegs in iDVD to create a slideshow version of the book, which he gives along with the book to the recipient. (Now I see you read this idea in another thread. Sorry, I didn't mean to repeat myself.)
I run my library from an external hard drive (it's too big for my mini's internal drive) and back up that entire drive to another external drive. I haven't yet felt the need to divide my library into multiples. I like that I can access all my photos from the same place, so all are available to me when I create a project like a calendar or book. A disadvantage to keeping multiple libraries is that only the most recently opened library will appear in the Media Pane of the other iLife apps (iMovie, iDVD, etc.) On the other hand, I have opened an old book to find a few photos missing. I had to go through the book and restore all the photos to it, and I still don't know why they disappeared from the book because they remained in my library the entire time. Fixing the book was easy enough, because I had the paper copy as a reference. So I can see how keeping a book and its library on DVD would be a great extra safety net. Of course, backing up the entire library is essential. I think Apple's answer to this is Time Machine in Leopard, and not with any feature of iPhoto itself.

• How can I "Copy" the description from iPhotos?

I am trying to get descriptions from iPhoto files into Family Tree Maker Mac2. It seems that FTM doesn't import that info with the .jpg file, but that is a separate issue. When I try to Copy the Description from the Info for a photo, I get strange results when I then try to Paste it, even into Text Edit to just check what I got.
I can edit that info in iPhoto, and in fact Copy and Paste it into the Description for other iPhotos, but I can't seem to get the info out. What am I doing wrong?

How do you transfer your iPhoto images from iPhoto to Family Tree Maker?
When you export your jpegs from iPhoto with "File > Export" the description is added in a readable form - you can see that when you inspect your exported image with "File > Get Info" in the Finder. You can copy the description from the "description" field in the "More Info" brick of the "Info" panel.
Inspecting the image with Graphic Converter shows, that the "description" tag is added to the XMP description in XML-format,
<dc:description>
<rdf:Alt>
<rdf:li xml:lang="x-default">Solar Eclipse
</rdf:li>
</rdf:Alt>
</dc:description>
Is that, what you see in Family Tree?
Then you should perhaps use the "get Info" panel to copy your "descriptions" or copy them directly from the iPhoto window.
Regards
