Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Try closing all open applications in multitasking and power cycling the device. Once this is done test the results. If the issue persists, I have included a couple troubleshooting articles that I would recommend going through.

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.

I have done several "attempted downloads, and see the full file download, typically taking 30 minutes to complete, and then something goes wrong.
I am happy to suspend AV and FW software, but would like to know if it is a good fix or not first?

I'm not that familiar with how FaceTime works. I know how to set It up but I don't use it. I just know that you can't activate in the UAE. I believe that you can activate in any country that permits it's use. Whether you will need a new ID or not, I can't confirm.
You can Google this and get all sorts of articles on workarounds. Apparently if you set up a VPN you can use it in the UAE. Here is one article that I found.

Try a Safe Boot by Restarting and holding down the Shift key between the startup tone and the Apple logo w/pinwheel. It will take longer to boot up in Safe mode. If successful, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk > select your OSx disk and restart.

You need to restore the phone (that is, iOS), not the backup. Those instructions have always been ambiguous. After iOS restores you should get the unlocked message, and you can then restore the backup (it should prompt you to). And you need to wait "long enough" after you got the instructions; it can take several days.

IBook hanging at startup screen

Done a fresh and erase instal of leopard 10.5 full retail version on my ibook 1.33ghz. Ran all the updates and now its hanging at the grey screen with the hd spinning every couple of seconds. How do resolve this? Please help! Only bought this ibook second hand today.

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but I'm so thankful to have discovered it that I'm replying to anyone with a situation that sounds similar. Supposedly this is a relatively common problem for the iBook G4.

-- I thought the idea was a joke at first, but tried it anyway, when the apple store and a mac repair shop told me they didn't think they could revive mine. Supposedly the problem is a loose joint near the left side of the track pad. It is made of kind of flimsy plastic and the logic board (?) is right under there.
Here's how I got mine to turn on: I held the laptop, opened, firmly in my left hand, and tilted the whole thing away from me. While holding it like that in the air, I pressed the power button and held it until it came on and finally booted up. I had to ask my roommate to help me hold it because my wrist got tired! Before, it would make the apple chime, the grey screen would come on, then it would just go black and shut down. I haven't turned it off yet, so I don't know if it will come on again when I do, but at least now I can backup the hard drive! I think I messed it up from a combination of resting my left elbow on that spot when I'm searching the web, lifting the machine from the left side, and/or squishing the laptop into my backpack with a bunch of heavy books. Anyway, I hope that helps
