There is no way you can virus check a Time Machine backup.. it is not stored in the TM backup in the same file structure as is used on the computer.
You will have to wipe it.
Must I clear the disk entirely? How woud I do that if I don't have Airport involved in the connection?
Yes, wipe.
I have no idea what disk you are using if it is not a Time Capsule.. but you do wipe of a hard disk on a Mac with the disk utility. Just reformat the drive.

  • Usb optical mouse doesn't work on MacBook Air

Hi, I need a mouse for my MBA but I only found a cheap USB optical mouse that i've used several times on my pc and worked perfectly fine, I tried using it on my MBA but it doesn't work. I searched in system information to see if at least the mouse is detected and surprisingly it is detected. The mouse has no brand and i don't think it needs any type of driver.  What should i do?
I have a MacBook Air mid-2012 running Mountain Lion.

You need at least a decent bluetooth mouse.
Best option of course is the Apple Magic Mouse.  $69

Well, there is no big deal about USB mouse, it's plug and play.If your mouse doesn't work at all, then its broken, or it's not compatible with mac. Test it in a PC.

  • USB optical mouse won't work in PS/2 port

I have a lenovo USB optical wheel mouse that I want to plug into the PS/2 mouse port (I need to free up the USB port for something else).  I have a green USB to PS/2 adaptor that works fine with a borrowed logitech USB mouse and also works fine with a microsoft USB mouse.  Any ideas why it won't work with a lenovo (or IBM) USB mouse?
My system is a ThinkCentre M51 type 1843-wnv running win xp pro.  Have 2.5 GB DDR RAM and an ATI Radeon 4550 in the PCIe 2 slot.  HDD is a WD Caviar Black 500 GB with 32 cache.
    Thanks!

    > Any ideas why it won't work with a lenovo (or IBM) USB mouse?
No, however, I've encountered similar issues with mice and keyboards using USB -> PS/2 adapters.
I'd suggest another solution: A simple USB hub. No external power is necessary for mice and keyboards so you can use whatever hub is least expensive. A hub will also provide you with extra USB ports that you can use with other devices. You can never be too rich or too thin or have too many USB ports

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Kindly sugest me the what to do

    Hello rajeevkumar30
As I understand it you reinstalled Windows XP and now you have devices that are not being installed correctly? I would suggest that you visit the Compaq Presario V2000 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that ALL your drivers and software are up to date. I would start with any BIOS and Firmware updates first than ensure your Drivers are up to date before moving on to your software.
As these are the drivers designed for your system this should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Trying to hook up a USB cable mouse in Afghanistan (i.e. no wi-fi).  Nothing is cuing up when I plug it in.  Please help?

Hello, I am a relatively new Macbook Pro user.  Only previous experience with a Mac before this was many years ago in Iraq.  I have a relatively cheap USB optical mouse, that I am trying to hook up so I can use Lumosity.com easier.  It is not an Apple brand - it is literally the sort of thing that comes with a cheap set of things in a 3rd-world store.  I attempted plugging in a Magic Mouse from Apple earlier, and no, it did not work either.  Simply put, I have two mouse devices that do not want to work in an environment that has no wi-fi (which I presume is why the Magic Mouse won't work, seeing as all it is supposed to require is to be turned on), and cannot seem to find success with this other cheap(er) optical mouse that has to be physically plugged into the laptop.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
Quick list of things I've already tried:
    1.  Taking the Magic Mouse to an area that has wi-fi (failed).
    2.  Plugging the optical mouse into different USB ports on the laptop (failed)
    3.  Yelling at both devices for failing me (no result = failed ironically).
    4.  Turning the Magic Mouse on and off (failed).
List of things that I have not done incorrectly:
    1.  Not tried a different device.
    2.  Putting the device(s) on any glass surface.
Any further assistance would be most greatly appreciated.

OK... the corded mouse is an unknown, since you're saying it's a very cheap device. At this point, if I understand you, you're not sure if that mouse even works. Let's go back to the Apple mouse. They don't need wireless to work, they run on Bluetooth, which is part of your computer. You need to go through "pairing" to bond that mouse to your computer.

  • Bootcamp, MacBook 3,1, usb optical drive issue.

I'm trying to install Windows Vista 32bit using Bootcamp on my late 2007 MacBook 3,1, the internal optical drive does not function so I have to use a usb optical drive but when I use bootcamp to start the installation it does not work and I'm presented with a folder question mark icon, I have installed Vista using my internal drive before.
Even if I hold down option and choose the DVD I either get a no operating system found or no media error.
    Any suggestions?

    OK! Got it sorted
    Here's how...
Boot the OSX Install disc, use "disk utility" to format the bootcamp partition.
Reboot then hold option to select disc.
Press eject replace the OSX disc with Windows disc then boot the Windows disc.
    Bootcamp seems a bit buggy.

  • Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse dead

I got what a Microsoft Notebook Wireless Optical Mouse back in May I think it was, worked great and loved it until yesterday, now it is unresponsive. I've "reset" it. Tried it on several different machines including Windows XP, all the same results, simply no response. System profiler recognizes the receiver is there. I guess it just died, too soon for that, bummed. Any ideas? I'm going to beat on it and possible freeze it for fun since I have nothing to loose.

My problem is kinda similar. After a pretty severe problem with the Mac the other day (and doing an Archive and Install of OSX 10.4) I have found my MS Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 is not working properly. Basically I cannot designate the buttons to do what I want them to do. I have tried the MS software (Intellipoint 5.1) and USB Overdrive (10.4) both of which I have used successfully in the past. However, with USB O/D installed every button becomes a control + click. With the MS software it just ignores my preferences.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get round this, it is very frustrating not having the buttons do what I am used to them doing.

  • Logitech USB wireless Mouse & Presenter

I have had a Logitech USB wireless Mouse & Presenter for few years, using it with my Powerbook G4. I recently upgraded to a Macbook and the presenter no longer works. A lot changed, hardware, OS X 10.5.5, and new version of Office.
It shows up under About This Mac -> USB as "USB wireless Mouse & Presenter".
However, Powerpoint doesn't respond to it. I am not sure what other software I could use to test it.
Anyone solved this problem already? Any ideas how I'd troubleshoot this?
I have the Logitech Control Center installed but it doesn't let me do anything with the presenter.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks.

Doesn't anyone else use this device?

  • I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro, the only thing plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

    Well
I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem.  Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol.  Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too.

  • HP OpticaL USB Mobile Mouse Cotrol Panel error.

I have the HP Optical USBMobile Mouse on an HP DV5T laptop running Vista sp2 ultimate. I have been getting the fillowong erro clicking on the mouse control panel app.:
    Debug assertion failed!
    Program: C:\WINDOWS\System32\RunLegacyCPLElevated.exe
    File:.\LinkAPI.cpp
    Line:32
I tried reinstalling it from the website.I tried to reinstall from disk. I even tried to rebuild the harddrive back to factory image. I even tried installing the mouse on my wife's DV4T laptop. Nothing works. The mouse itself seems to work fine, and the home button pulls up my browser's home page.I cannot change the HP mouse settings. I am assumming that the default Windows mouse driver is being used.Although, why the Home buttom works, (Not standard for a mouse) I have no idea. In device manager the mouse used to show as the HP Optical USB Mobile mouse. Now It only shows" HID-Compliant mouse". When I used to install the update from the HP website,I the mouse applet would also error out. However I found the fix at that time was to run the setup up until just after the files were created in the x86 program files directory, cancelling the setup, and running setup from the 64 bit folder. then the control panel app worked. It seemed that the default x86 driver ( the default driver from the website) was not working but the 64 bit software was working. Now this fix is not working at all.
Any ideas? This has been driving me crazy for ove a month now.

  • USB wireless mouse issues

Hi, I have been having issues with my MBP in regards to my USB wireless mouse. The problem is most noticeable when I am playing WoW. The mouse either stops responding or it lags for a bit. Thinking it was a WoW issue I contacted a GM who told me that it was a USB firmware issue that Apple has acknowledged. I am just wondering if there is indeed a firmware issue and is there an update or fix to solve the problem. Thanks.

    1. I have tried copying the Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse drivers to the $WinPEDriver$ directory with mixed success on a 2012 MBP.
    2. My experience is based on a 2013 rMBP. You may be able to use an Apple USB Keypad/Mouse to better success.
    3. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2460820/macbook-pro-mid-2014-review-minor-update -offers-slightly-better-cpu-performance.html for HW differences between the two machines.
    4. If you have access to a 2013 rMBP, I can suggest trying to build the USB on that and working with the USB to see if you can make it install Windows. the rMBP 2014 and rMBP 2013 have the same HW, except some CPU changes. You can also try building the USB at the nearest Apple store, if possible.
    5. There is a section in AutoUnattend.xml, which is supposed to install all drivers in $WinPEDriver$ (see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686316 )
    <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpCustomizationsWinPE" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
