I have iTune accounts under two separate Apple IDs.  Can I merge them into one account under one ID?

I have iTune accounts under two separate Apple IDs.  Can I merge them into one account under one ID?  I have purchased music and video in both.

No, it is not possible to merge accounts.  Choose one as the primary account and keep a local backup of all purchases so you don't get into the mess where you encounter a 90 day freeze on re-downloading past purchases from multiple accounts.

As said, you cannot merge accounts, nor transfer addresses from one account to another. You can add additional iCloud accounts to your Mac in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars where they will appear alongside the main account. (Also on an iOS device in Settings><Mail, Contacts & Calendars).

  • 2 apple IDs - can I merge them?

I had an itunes account under one ID, but when I got my computer & iphone, I forgot I registered them under my married name/email. Is there a way to merge the 2 accounts?

I just got off the phone w/ an Apple support guy who helped me do this very thing. Yes it is possible, though I wouldn't call it "merging" per se.
Here are the steps that worked for me, You essentially set up a new Apple ID with one device, then log on to that new ID with your other device. But YOU MUST do it very methodically, as described below:
    - Before changing Apple ID or password, be sure to actively go in and SIGN OUT of iCloud on ALL APPLE DEVICES with the exception of the one used to make the changes:
    - MacBook Pro
    - iPod Touch
    - iPad
    - iPhone
That way when you sign back in to iCloud on each of the devices you can then enter the new user ID or password to update them on each of the devices.
Otherwise, the device will think the old ID/Password is still in effect and you won’t be able to connect. It gets real messy.
If you change the ID or Password w/o doing the above, you’ll have to go back, sign out of iCloud on each of them, then:
    1) Change your user ID (temporarily) from that one device that you are using (that you did not sign out of iCloud on), verify it via email on the one device,
    3) Then go back and change it back to the original ID or Password that you changed, then…
    4) Open up iCloud in each device and type in the correct user name or password.
Now all 5 of my devices (2 computers and 3 other gizmos) have the same user IDs and passwords.
    I hope this helps.

  • HT3819 Old and new Apple IDs - can I merge them?

Hello all, I  wonder if you can help with this. I got an ipod around 8 years ago, and configured an apple ID on a PC, which I half forget about as I don't use that much. Fastforward to today, and I now have a MacBook and iPad, with a new Apple ID. But, all my music is on the old ID. Can they be merged? Or can I shut down my old ipod-related Apple ID and just switch everything over to the new one? Thanks!

You can, but understand it is always tied to your old Apple ID that you will need to use if ever you need to load the files onto an iDevice or download purchased music under that ID.

  • I appear to have two separate Apple IDs and have purchased music under both.  Is there any way to consolidate the accounts into one?

I appear to have two separate Apple IDs and to have purchased music under both of them (one is my husband's email account, the other is mine).  Is there a way to consolidate them, or is it possible to make the purchases made under two separte IDs downloadable on the same device(s)?

Not at this time. There is no way to merge two Apple IDs or be signed into the iTunes Store with more than one Apple ID at a time on an iOS device. However, you can USB sync the music to more than one device at a time, no problem. As long as all the music is on the same computer.

  • HT204053 What are the pros and cons of 1) choosing to use the SAME Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or 2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides

All is in the title, so I repeat it below with a better identation.
What are the pros and cons of
    1) choosing to use the SAME
Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and
purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or
    2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides"?
    P.S.
I have loads and loads of free podcasts in iTunes in my iMac, that are certainly more thant the 5 gigas the iCloud provides for free, so I don't want those to go to the cloud. But this is perhaps a different question...
Also need to mention that I have itunes on a mac, a pc and an iphone.
Sorry to look so silly with this question, but I don't get the "big picture".

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

  • HT1491 I have two itunes accounts with different Apple ID's.  How can I merge them into one?

I ahve two itunes accounts with different Apple ID's.  How can I merge them into one account?

Apple has no provisions for this. You cannot merge multiple Apple ID's into one ID. Content is always tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.

  • Can I have 2 iPhones with 2 separate Apple IDs access the same Library on a single computer?

    Here's our current set-up:
    - Dad has a laptop with iTunes and his music, iPhone and iPad all running off of his Apple ID.
    - Mom has a laptop with iTunes and her music, and iPhone running off of her Apple ID.
    - 2 kids with new iPods that we haven't set up yet (getting them for Christmas)
We would like to create a SINGLE library with all family music and media on Dad's laptop, then use his laptop to sync all music, movies, audiobooks, podcasts, and other media libraries so that we can each pick and choose what gets synced to our devices without messing up any other data that is personal such as apps (with embedded personal profiles such as Evernote and Facebook), bookmarks, photos, iMessage, iCloud, etc.
We assume that we need to maintain our two separate Apple IDs, and potentially set up some for the kids so that they can have some personal apps on their iPods, but if that is not the case we would appreciate some direction.
Thanks. If you can offer a solution please be specific in the steps required.

Hi, we don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to Outlook on our computer
To make sure apps purchased on one device don't inadvertently merge with others turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.
So far we have managed everything with a single Apple ID, but that will probably change as the kids leave home. Managing app updates from multiple IDs is a pain as you have to manually sign in to each account in turn, however there are other benefits to each user having their own account.

I have just used migration assistant to import photos (using an ethernet cable) from my PC. It has worked but they have gone into a new user on my MacPro. How can I merge them into the one user account.

How many pictures (or how many bytes) are we talking?  Now that the pictures are imported one way to cross users is to use a removable drive (although large volumes of files preclude this).
The other is to login as the user where the pictures are, then copy them into the public drop box of the user where you want the picture.
The arrow is showing (in ths example) copy files from the Pictures folder for my user to the guest user accounts public dropbox.  When you do this you may have to authenticate and you won't be able to see the results of the copy until you log in as the other user.
All users are in the folder "/Users/"

  • I publish identical podcasts under different URLs.  How can I combine them into one?

Over the years, my URL has changed a couple of times.  I didn't know (until recently) how to notify iTunes that the podcast location and URL had changed.  So, now after a number of years, I have three identical podcasts, each with different a different URL and a different list of subscribers.  I have them pointing to the same source file now, but I would love to combine the podcasts into one so that the subscribers from each are merged together and they don't show up as three possible subscriptions in iTunes.  Is this possible?

You can't merge them: all you can do is to ask to have two of them deleted, and of course if you do that you will lose any ratings. However existing subscribers should all be using the same feed if the three Store pages are all using the same feed, and so removing two of them won't have any effect on subscribers.
The method of getting a podcast removed is detailed here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#removing
When you explain why you want each one of the two you choose removed, specifically say that the same feed is in use in three places, so you can't use the 'itunes:block' tag (because this would block all three).

I have two phones under the same apple ID and I want to put them on separate apple IDs, how do I do this??

If you sign out of an Apple ID under Settings > iCloud, you should be prompted for an option to 'Keep on my iPhone' in regards to Contacts and other related data.  Then, when signing in with another Apple ID on that same iPhone, you should be prompted to 'Merge'.  If you do both, then you won't lose any Contacts, and the iCloud Contacts will then be merged into the new Apple ID iCloud, but also will stay on the old Apple ID iCloud.
In the future, it might be best to post your own question thread instead of bumping a thread that is over two years old.
