As planb77 says, which is why we specifically did not buy Apple when looking for a mp3 player. We bought a Sansa Clip. Note that just about any non-Apple brand will have issues with Macs because the syncing software is only written for Windows, but at least you can find workarounds such as manually copying music files (which iPods do not allow).
We recently inherited an iPod Shuffle and somebody else gave me a 11 year old PC running Windows XP which I am going to set up so we can use the Shuffle. I agree it's ironic that I cannot run the Shuffle from my newer Mac computer but can run it from a real junker PC.

I had the same error when trying to update my apps on my ipod touch. I tried to input my security code numerous times to no avail. I also made sure my billing address was the same as what my bank had on file. To fix the issue I went into iTunes, logged onto the iTunes store, went to account settings and reviewed my recent purchases. Turned out that I had made a recent purchase and didn't have enough money left on my credit card to pay for it at the time. I paid off the credit card, and then input my security code once more and now it works fine. I've heard that some debit or pay as you go credit cards require a minimum balance, so make sure you have at least that amount in your account.

Have plenty of itunes credit, but can't buy w/o credit card
My wife tried to buy a $1.99 app yesterday. She has a little over $50 in credit on her account from an itunes card. She has purchased from the store in the past, using a credit card, so this isn't her first purchase. We live in the U.S., if that makes a difference.
The system asked (once again) for a credit card. She selected None, so that it would use the credit on file. The system told her that she HAD to have a credit card in order to purchase the app. WHY? What's the point of an itunes card if iTunes is going to also demand a credit card?
We've been burnt by this in the past – she has had credit on her account, yet when she went to buy an app from iTunes, it instead automatically charged her credit card. That's why we switched her to iTunes cards instead of having it connected to a credit card.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now. -

I too had this problem after I redeemed two $50 gift cards. I solved the problem by uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it. Give it a try.

Click "Manage your account"

Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

Hi, I have 25$ credit of itunes, as i redeemed a 25$ itunes gift card. However whenever i try to buy a song, I can't use the credit because the payment option goes to my sister's credit card account, and I have not updated the security code for her billing option.
I'm so frustrated, how do you set it up where whenever you want to buy an app from the app store or a song, it charges from your itunes credit and not your credit card??!!Make sure the Preview panel in Windows Explorer is disabled.
