I have just bought an airport capsule 2t
It is installed and working on the ground floor with my iPhone/ Macbook pro etc, but wont find the airport upstairs, that used to work, wirelessly. Any ideas. When I link them with a cable they work. It seems to be the wireless range is worse with the new device??
wireless is voodoo technology.. you need an adequate offering of chicken livers to the gods of ether as you do science. What you discovered is not unusual.. for some people the new ones are better.. for some the same.. for plenty of people worse.. It depends on so many factors.
I recommend you manually set wireless channels and a different name for 5ghz.. high speed is really only on the 5ghz band.
Test a range of channels and see if anything works better.
Or keep your old wireless router as a WAP and that allows you to continue to get signal upstairs.. better still if it is apple router you can extend wireless from the new TC.. to get signal in the dark (wifi point of view) area.

I have just bought an airport time capsule and i am trying to install an airport utility programme to support this
However, it seems the version 6 which came out last year - i can't use on my Mac - Snow Leopard -
So tried to then install version 5.6.1 and although this installed properly, it says this will not support my capsule
2. I have BT home hub 2. I presume I cannot bypass this as the internet router? I bought the time capsule for its capability to back up . The router was a byproduct. But am I correct in thinking that it acts as a secondary router or a booster rather than a primary router . I still need the BT homehub?
if anyone can help that would be great
CS JYou should either return the Time Capsule or upgrade your Mac at least to OS X 10.7.

At home I have a PC wired into a wifi router. How do I set up my airport express with this configuration please?
If you are on a Windows machine, you will need to download the Airport Admin Utility from Apple:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1391
From there, you can configure the Airport Express. Set up the Airport to:
- create it's own network
- share an IP
- use 802.11n 2.4GHz (g,b compatible)
- use WPA2 for security
Then, test that the iPad can connect to it.
Now, when you take it to a hotel and plug it into their wired network, the Airport will get the IP from the hotel and share it out to your iPad -
I have just bought time capsule and airport works
I have just bought time capsule and the airport part is working, but when I try to link to the back up disc I get a request for a password. "writeconfig wants to use the "com.apple.parentcontrols.keychain.YynLph keychain. Any ideas? I've tried a number of passwords for the mac and none work.
Please see Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ.
You can do it from using a paper clip and the reset button on the back of the unit. See the link above. -
I have an Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz/6GB RAM/500GB HDD/Superdrive PowerPC Desktop and just bought an Airport Extreme card for it. The card is recognized but will not see the in-house network. This is a pre-intel computer. Do I need an additional antennae? If so, which one because my research is confusing me about what is supposed to work with this computer.
Please check out the following Apple Support article to see if your particular Power Mac model supports an external Wi-Fi antenna.

I have just bought a Humax 7500T PVR and a Humax W-Lan dongle to connect to my Airport Extreme.
I have put the mac address into the AE. The installation screen on my TV is picking up the network name but once appied it won't connect to the internet.
I've a few other things connected to the AE such as computers, ipad, itouch, etc, and have never had a problem connecting these once I've entered the mac address into the AE. Can anyone help me with this please?have you made sure that the network setting in the system preferences is set up to use dhcp? if not i would try changing it so that it shows that it is getting its address by dhcp

I just bought a airport wireless route and I have a time warner modem. My problem is my modem is not connecting to my apple airport router. What do I need to do?
Power cycle the cable modem.. you may try leaving it off 5min.. might be enough.. sometimes you need 15min or even longer.. Followed by power cycle of the AE.
Nothing else should be connected to the modem.. except the router that will get the public IP as they only hand out ONE> -
Just bought an AirPort Extreme which requires a Airport Ulitity update. The update needed is not supported on my HD. It requires OSxV10.7.5 which I do not have. What can I do??
Options:
Update your operating system to 10.7.5 (Lion) or 10.8.x (Mountain Lion)
Use or borrow another Mac that is running 10.7.5 or 10.8.x to install the AirPort Extreme
Use an iPhone or iPad for the installation -
I just bought an AirPort express. Currently I have a qwest wired router plugged into the back of my computer via an ethernet cable. Can I just unplug the ethernet cable and plug it into the AirPort express, then use the setup utility? Most of the discussions involve an existing wireless network. I don't have one.
Correct. That's the way to set up the AirPort Express. After connecting your AirPort Express to the router, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps

Hi
I just bought an airport extreme and have replaced my previous airport express network with it in my house. I want to set up the air disc so all my computers, Macbook pro 2008, Macbook, 2010 and Mac mini 2010, can use my storage external storage drive collectively. I have been through the set up tutorial several times, and in the menu on the apple support intructions, where it says I should be able to check the box for share over a WAN, or something similar, I have a box saying share over internet with Bonjour? I have updated my airport utility, thinking that this may be the problem, but to no avail. I can only see my disc if I go to the manual set up on the airport extreme, and click on discs. I am very computer iliterate ( and a bad speller) hence I have macs as they are always almost plug and play. Can any one help me sort this out please.
ThanksHello,
if you see the drive in the Airport section "drives" your half the way to success.
In this section you should:
enable sharing --> ON
set security to airport extreme password
hold password in keychain --> ON
guest access to read/write
share over WAN -> OFF
share with bonjour over internet -> OFF
Apply settings
After that, the drive should show up in finder on your computers. -
I have just bought apple tv which allows me to play music through airport express but when chose to watch a movie the audio comes from the tv and does not give option listen through other speakers served through airport express. Can you help me ?
No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

I have just bought a new Airport express
I have just bought a new Airport express and I what to connect it to an exicting router. The router is not any Apple device. How can I expand my internet signals? My Mac can not find the new Airport express.
The AirPort Express cannot wirelessly extend the signal of a 3rd party router, if that is what you are asking about here.
If you can connect the AirPort Exrpress to a LAN <-> port on your router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, the Express can be configured to provide additional wireless signal coverage that way.
Please clarify on what you are trying to accomplish. It would help if we knew what operating system your Mac was using as well. -
I have just bought Airport Express and now my skype is slow. Is there a solution to this - everything else seems to be working fine

I have just updated to Lion and now my folders no longer show number of items on the bottom...
In the good old days of Snow Leopard, an open Finder folder had a border along the bottom of the window which could show the number of items in that window and the total available space on the hard disk or partition that folder resides on. That bottom border is gone in Lion and those two bits of information are gone with it. Is that what you're talking about? If so, I'd like to learn how to get it back too and "Show Item Info" is not the way. -
hi I just bought the airport express, plugged it in and opened my airport utilities on my macbook and it doesn't seem to recognise it anyone have an idea what I should do?
If you are trying to configure the AirPort Express using wireless, you must first log on to the wireless signal that the Express is broadcasting to establish a connection.
Look for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx where the "x" could be a number or letter. No password is required to log on.
Most folks find it easier to temporarily connect using an Ethernet able as stic suggests in his post....if you have one handy. Once the device is configured, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable. -
Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.
How can I recover the NAS back up to put on my new Time Machine.
Talking to Apple Support Adviser was a waste of time on case number 239647273
Any thoughts or pointers?Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.

Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.
