I have just downloaded face time to my mac book pro 10.6.8 version, but it wont sign in?
First:
Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -

The question i have is can excel for Mac be transferred over to and from these two devices.

RussThere are several iPad apps that can read and write Excel files or Excel-compatible files. Numbers is one, and I use it on both my MBP and my iPad, though not heavily on either. I also use Excel on the Mac, and because I'm used to it, I prefer it to Numbers, which works a bit differently.
I would be leery of buying an iPad to use as a substitute for a computer. Typing on it is very inefficient unless you use an external keyboard, and no Mac or Windows software runs on it -- only iOS software. You must use a computer to move files onto and off it, organizing them on it is difficult, and if you don't have a network printer you can't print from it. I dearly love my iPad 2, but it's an adjunct to my heavily-used MBP, not a substitute for one. -

With the only option being one computer for purchase I went with the Mac and windows dual as you can see by this threads title. For my case it was ideal. I understand that, and have been there but these machines (and I have a lot of Macs, only 4 PC's) are just revenue streams for me, they do various tasks cheaper than a bunch of dedicated hardware, and I can troubleshoot from a remote location far easier than I can with the dedicated stuff. The simple truth is that for me to dedicate a Mac to running one or two Windows programs entails far more cost than a Windows PC, and there is no advantage to offset the extra cost. -
i have a slight crack in my mac book pro screen it is just on the top of the screen and the LCD display is working fine. i was wondering how much it would cost to fix it/ replace it. it is not a pressing matter but if it is cheep to fix then i would like to do so

Hello, I have creative cloud installed on my Mac Book Pro - OS X 10.9. 5 When trying to download trial programs, a popup window shows the message " you have been disconnected" Connect to continue. The same message comes after repeated attempt to entering the login and password info. How can I solve this?

I have just downloaded Mountain Lion for my MacBook Pro and now when my applications open they close and the error "This has just quit unexpectedly" message pops up. Does anybody know what is happening/how to fix it?

I am just like a beginner in both. I didnt have space in my storage device, so I just copied all my clips, thinking I can edit it latter, without recompressing or editing or whatever I should have done it at that point of time. Now I need to edit it and use it in my profession. I am very upset. Please help me in going step by step to get it in FCP X for editing. Also I would like to know, do I need to buy the Compressor 4 for any reason. I dont mind in buying, if you think it is going to be useful for some reason. I have an epson xp600 and a mac book pro. Wireless printing is OK if I'm lucky for one time only then a 'failed to connect' message so I have to delete and re add the printer to get it working again (but just once!) then the same occurs. Why?
I am not certain this will fix your problem but I suggest you assign the printer a static IP address.
Using the printer's front panel, select Menu > Network > WLAN > TCP/IP > Boot method, and change it to "static". Provide a static IP address that is on your LAN's subnet.
For example, if you are using an AirPort Extreme, you might give it an IP address of 10.0.1.100. If you are using a Netgear or Linksys router that defaults to issuing 192.168.x.x addresses, you might give it an address of 192.168.1.100. That way, the printer will always "reside at the same address" on your network. If your router has the ability, you should reserve that address so that the router does not attempt to assign it to another DHCP device.
Then, go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, and delete your existing printer with the "–" (minus) button. Add it again, using the "+" (plus) button. In the window that appears, select the IP pane, and from the Protocol menu select "Line Printer Daemon (LPD)". In the Address field type the IP address you gave your printer.
If all goes well the "Pring Using" field will detect the printer at that address and automatically select the appropriate driver. You will see something similar to the following screenshot ("name" can be whatever you decide, and "location" is optional):
Click Add, then you can close System Preferences.
There are other possible reasons your printer is "not responding" which could include wireless interference from competing wireless networks, but try this "static IP" method first. It should mitigate the problem. -
can I have two contact lists on one mac book pro? I need one to sync with my iphone, one to sync with my husband's iphone.
I agree with Chris CA that this is the way I would *expect* iTunes to behave.
When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct? -

It sounds like you already have iMessages setup. Did you sign into iCloud from system preferences and did you also add your iCloud account to Mail?
They should, just sign you into iMessages when you load Messages.app.
If you are only being asked to put in your AIM id (which it is really asking for your APPLE ID) then it means that you are already signed into iMessages (hopefully)
To check this, go to Messages>Preferences>accounts and choose iMessages. Make sure that it says it is enabled.
Now close out of the preferences, and then hit cmd 0, to bring up the Chat Box.
The Chat box lets you use iMessages begin a conversation with a friend in your contacts.
simply type their name into the TO field at the top of the chat box and find a contact with "IMessages" next to their name. Hover over that contact, and if a blue Talk Bubble comes up next to the name, that account is ready to receive iMessages.
Click the account and begin a conversation.
If you have setup everything correctly with your Apple ID on your iDevices as well as in Messages on OSX, you should be able to have a synced conversation with all of them.
Please note, if you were using your Apple ID with iChat before ML, then you most certainly have an AIM account and you were using it in the past. If you want a buddy list, then you should follow the prompt to sign in with your AIM account, but treat it like it is asking you for an Apple ID. Sign in with your apple id to the aim account it asks you to sign into and then you'll have your old iChat buddy list back.
iMessages does not have a buddy list associated with it. you need to organize your Contacts with their user information and then you need to use the To field in the chat box to communicate and find people with iMessages. Only gtalk, jabber, aim, bonjour, yahoo have the ability to show you a buddy list. iMessages buddy list is Contacts.app
if iMessages is not enabled, you can enable it by clicking on the iMessages account in Messages>preferences>accounts and then signing in with the same apple id you have tied to your iOS devices.

Impossible to download Mavericks on a mac book pro 15'' 2008 with lion
I cannot download Mavericks on my mac book pro. I cleaned it with Onyx, repared the permissions, gave my id in App store, which was recognized, deactivated my Intego Antivirus, no way.
It works on a mac mini with snow leopard, but it does'nt put the file under the downloads so that I can copy it.
My Mac is given as compatible with Mavericks.
I found much messages on Internet about analogous problems, but no fix.
Is Apple aware of this? Is anybody knowing a remedy?

It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

Hi, I have backed up 2 IMACs and one Mac Book Pro but for some reason, the 3rd IMAC come up with this problem: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Anthony’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). Why? The computer system is up to date and I have had no issue with the other computers, just this one.
