I have just ordered download via email to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Lion. Will I need my original mac installation disc?

I don't have it anymore unfortunately after it was damaged in storage, so I'm concerned. It's an iMac I bought in mid 2007.
If someone could set my mind at ease about this I would be very grateful.

Has an internal drive fail been known to happen during an upgrade or do you just mean generally? Sorry if that seems a really stupid question, but I am stupid when it comes to this sort of thing!

I am contemplating upgrading my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Currently, I don't have ICloud available on my computer. I also keep getting messages to upgrade my IPhoto to '11 version as well as Pages. I know, I'm behind, but my theory is if it isn't broke don't mess with it.
My concern is I don't want to lose my pictures and YES, I have backed up with Time Machine to an external hard drive. (I just hope that's good enough). IF I upgrade to start using ML OS, will I need to restore anything from my external hard drive or will I be able to start using computer as if nothing changed?
I know enough to be dangerous and I'm hesitant to upgrade for fear of losing everything. Would appreciate help. Thanks!

Correct, in fact, Lion is no longer directly available from the App Store.

I solved the problem. Had nothing to do with Mac or iphoto. Problem must be my the internet connection to my provider.
Upload at my office worked without any problem. One problem solved, now i am aware with a lot of discussions with my providers helpdesk ;-)

i cannot sync my iphone music, i had used my i phone on another pc, which died. Ive managed to save the hard drive and transfer stuff across. I ended up smashing my phone and could update all other stuff on restore but cant sync any music. It is all grey at the top of the screen. Ive re installed itunes and cleared all phone data. I'm having a similar problem. I had previously (over a year ago) purchased 2 episodes of Law & Order. Then about 2 months ago, I purchased the 3rd season of Sons of Anarchy. When I downloaded these episodes to my iPad, about a dozen full seasons of various shows popped up, too. iOS6 problems aplenty ....not sure if the link I inserted is working or not, but the issue is a lot more prevalent - the issue being that what shows up & plays in iTunes after the iOS6 update is not what shows up (& plays) on the device itself. This may go beyond just the iPod Touch as well.
In my case I can see & play both audio & video files in my Playlist through iTunes, but can only see the Playlists on the iPod Touch with ALL of them being empty. Syncing numerous times no help. Contacting Apple Tech. Support no help - they suggested downloading my Purchases from the iTunes Store - waste of time, did not make a difference. It is clear Apple needs to release a fix to OS6.
Another problem I noticed on the device is that the Shuffle option is hidden on the built-in Songs Playlist, having to swipe the screen down to see it - dumb dumb dumb.

Yes you can. However, it is better to use one person's account most of the time for purchases in the Mac App Store and iTunes since you can share purchases, such as songs, among various devices using the SAME account. You Cannot share purchases among different accounts, though. So make one of your accounts the main "purchasing" account so you can share purchases.

The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot.

Did you use the same method to add each of the six albums to your library? With some of iTunes configuration options, some imports (CDs, Store purchase, use of the Automatically add to iTunes folder) will go into the standard media folder location, but the other methods to add media files already on your PC (Add File to Library..., Add Folder to Library..., drag and drop) will leave the files in their original spot.
The other factor that may influence where iTunes locates media files is the setting of the "part of a compilation" flag in the media metadata. When this flag is set iTunes (when configured to organize your media and copy all additions to the media folders) will place files in iTunes Media\Music\Compilations\album_title rather than iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_title.

It depends on what country you're in, whether or not you can authorize that computer, and whether or not the songs are still available in the iTunes Store. Any copies in the iCloud shouldn't be considered to be a substitute for a backup.
