I have just upgraded my laptop from vista to windows 7, I have all my music on an external as the library is to large for hard disk. I have downloaded Itunes 11 but cannot  fathom a way of getting my new itunes to connect with my external library.

Question:  I have upgraded my windows vista to windows 7, I have all of my itunes music stored onto an external due to the size of content, so in vista all of my music in itunes had a path to F (external library). But now I have upgrade to windows 7, I cannot get itunes to recognise my library from my external. I have tried to connect external and open itunes with shift key down with both suggestions but to no avail. please help, all I want is to keep my library on external not on hard drive. I have also gone to preferences/advanced and made sure the external drive is chosen. This seems so complicated and I thought it would have been easy...

At a guess you followed the process in HT1364 - iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder which would have moved the media folder to a new path of your choice. This process leaves the library database files back in the original location of <User's Music>\iTunes. Often people assume that all they need is now on the external drive and wipe the internal drive, or discard their old computer, before backing up the all important iTunes folder. If you have a backup of your user's profile folder from before the upgrade the iTunes library folder should be in there somewhere. Restore it to <User's Music> and your original library should pop back into existence. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter that it had previously.
A more effective way to relocate the library is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive, then hold down shift when starting iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. You would then choose the file iTunes Library.itl in the iTunes folder on the external drive. If this is the way you moved the library before then that is how you should now reconnect to it. Changing the media folder in preferences doesn't change which .itl database file is opened, nor does double-clicking on an .itl file directly.
If you no longer have the original .itl file then you will have to build a new library and import the media to it. If you need to do this I would recommend you create a new library at F:\iTunes, then move your existing media folders inside F:\iTunes\iTunes Media before importing. This will avoid the creation of duplicates and make sure the library is in the correct shape going forwards.
If you have an iPod or iOS device my scripts ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats may well let you recover ratings, play counts & playlists from the device.
When you've fixed up your libray you should consider getting a second external drive to backup to.

  • I have recently upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7. All my music is on a windows file, how do I move it to i tunes library

I have recently upgraded my laptop operating system from Vista to Windows 7. i tunes is asking me to sync my i pod, because it is recognising the Vista laptop and not the Windows 7. All my music has gone from i tunes library but it is all stored in Windows music folder(s). How can I move it all to my i tunes library?

So your iTunes library is now empty after the upgrade?
Simply drag the one folder (containing all of your music) into your new empty iTunes library or choose File -> Add to Library in iTunes.
Otherwise, if they aren't all in one folder, you'll have to drag each seperate one into iTunes.

    Thank you.

    Thanks Mohammad - much appreciated.
I also got a response from Apple who said that there was a problem related to fonts and the encryption.xml file
Once we'd removed this we were able to upload the epub no problem.
It's odd that the system seems to say that all is okay when it isn't. We have to rely on guesswork rather a lot using iBook Producer.
Anyway, all sorted now and thank you again for your contribution.
Best wishes and a Happy New Year!

  • Hi, I have just upgraded my Aperture from 2 to 3 and cant find a desaturation brush which was amongst the tools in Aperture 2.

Hi, I have just upgraded from Aperture 2 to 3 and cant find the DEsaturation brush which I used to select from Image>Edit in A2 and does not come amongst the brushes from the Photos>Add Adjustment> or Quick Brushes in A3. Does anyone know where to find this essential tool?

there is no quick brush that you can do directly from the tools on the top of the screen if you're working in Full Screen mode?
In addition to the "Enhance" sliders that Frank pointed to, I see the "Saturation" in the "Brushes" Drop-down in Full-screen mode.
Only you have to set the amount of saturation first to a low value using the slider in the "Saturation" brick of the adjustment panel.
You may have to add the "Saturation" brick first to the "Adjustment" tab from "Add Adjustment > Quick Brushes > Saturation"
To add a "Saturation" brick permanently  to your adjustments click the cogwheel in the Saturation brick and enable "Add to Default Set".
You can also save the setting - with the adjustment slider positioned as you want it - as an Effect:
Effects > Save as an effect.

  • After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, Firefox lost all my stored passwords, never asks to save them, even though I've checked box for saving them, have made sure history is not cleared, and am not in Private Browsing.

In Windows 7, Firefox 8.0 does not ask to save passwords, and does not save, them, even though I checked the box to save passwords. I have confirmed that clearing history is not on and that I am not in Private Browsing. This is so frustrating, it almost makes me want to go back to Vista. I have looked at all the suggestions to fix the problem in "Help" and have followed the suggestions, and none of them help.

I have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine!  Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS....  Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process.  The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty!   When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running.  The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site.  Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them!  This causes issues and countless errors.  Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support.  I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way...  I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only!  Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed.  I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7....  Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...

  • Upgrading Satelite A500 from Vista to Windows 7

I have received my upgrade disc from Toshiba. I intend to do a clean install of Windows 7. What I would like to know is where do I get the software that was preinstalled on my laptop after everything is deleted when Windows 7 is installed. The Toshiba software I mean is the face recognition software, WEB camera software etc.
A friend of mine has a laptop from another manufacture and he received 2 discs with the upgrade - one was the Windows 7 program and the other was the programs.
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

I have done the upgrade on my A400 laptop. It went fine and everything works perfectly. I am very pleased as 7 is a big improvement on Vista.
You will need the "Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Win 7" (Google this and you will see what to do & download) and also go to website below which will provide step by step instructions.
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ct=SB&soid=2460108&ref=EV
You should also consider using the Windows Easy Transfer app. This is in Vista and will let you transfer all your relevant settings (you will need to store that data on an external drive/disc/flash drive etc - and then remove this from computer you are upgrading. After upgrade, you reinstall this data using Easy Transfer.)
Just make sure everrthing is in place before you start (print out the instructions etc etc) as once you have started there is no turning back!
Win 7 is really good and I am very happy with the outcome.
    Good luck

  • Hard Disks Still in Good Condition But Cannot Be Recognized

We have just retired two 250GB harddisks from server service to give way to bigger drives running on 10.4.11 Server version. These drives have 10.3.9 Server edition installed and were still working well when we pulled them out of XServe. I am trying to reformat them for storage use but they are not showing up in any of the PowerMac G4s (Tower) that I've installed them on. A technician earlier warned me that the old drives were installed in XServe in "spiked" method, whatever that means, and they may not open when installed individually in the client Macs. I've tried to format them in target mode but they also can't be detected either by our iMacs running on 10.5.2 or G4s running on 10.4.11. Any thoughts? Thanks you.

    Hi, Desert Stag -
A technician earlier warned me that the old drives were installed in XServe in "spiked" method....
Might the tech have said "striped"? If so, that would indicate they had been set up as part of a RAID configuration. I would think they should still be able to be formatted using Disk Utility.
If all else fails, one trick to try is to take them to a friend with a PC, and format them using that machine as a PC volume. Then bring them back to the Mac - the Mac should then be able to re-initialize them as if they were brand new drives.

  • Deleted icloud account because of itunes hassels...any way to get calender on mac to sync with iphone 4 again?

    Please Help
Im just not happy with the whole icloud system so i deleted my icloud account from Settings>iCloud . Then wiped my iphone 4 of all my music from the Settings>Usage>Music then started a new sync on itunes.  This worked well, my music is playing properly now and my phone isnt lagging as much.
I did this only because i got sick of all those little clouds with red arrows in the middle, having to access my music from the cloud all the time became a hassel.  Especially with over 2000 songs, and when i was away from my home wifi, i couldnt access those songs without using cellular data...no interest in paying out more money for music i already owned!!!
So my question is this, can i still push calender appointments from my mac to my iphone without icloud?  All my appointments are still on my mac but not on my iphone.
I could do it manually but i really dont want to have to do that.
So, can my mac and iphone still talk to each other over home wifi and sync my dates in calender?
    Would really appreciate some advice.
    Thanks

    1)  It sounds like you have been using itunes match, which is a different service than icloud.  Is this true?
    2)  Without using icloud to sync data, you must manually connect a device to iTunes.

Help with Mountain Lion and Mail

    Hi Anitra,
Did you updated from OSX Lion to Mountain Lion? And iPhoto was installed on your Mac? Then iPhoto and the Library must still be on your Mac.
Go to finder and slect 'Applications'. iPhoto must be in that folder. Open iPhoto. See what happens. Are all your pictures/events displayed?
If not, please reply and we will try to locate the iPhoto Library.

  • I have osx 10.6.3 have just upgraded to snow leopard and it says my app ical is ical 3.0.2 and cant be used?  what the??? what do i do now?

I have just upgraded to snow leopard and ical now wont open.  says it is not compatible and is ical 3.0.2 which seems strange as i have a osx10.6.3 .   have looked for update but cant find one,  what do i do?

    Greetings,
It sounds like you have moved iCal from it's normal location and are opening a second copy which is the older version.
The current version of OS X 10.6 is 10.6.8.  As you are running 10.6.3 you need the updates.  Go to the Apple Menu > Software update and keep doing this until it says all updates have been installed.
Click anywhere on your desktop (the background).
Go to the top of the computer screen and click on "Go" > "Applications"
In this list look for "iCal".
Double-click iCal in this location (which is the proper home for iCal) and see what version it says.
If it reports the correct version you can drag the iCal from the Applications folder to the dock on your screen to add an button for it (if you already have one in the dock, remove it before you drag this one there).  Be sure to leave iCal in the Applications folder.
    Hope that helps.

  • I've just upgraded to "Lion" from "Snow Leopard" which to my surprise does not support "Appleworks" I've used Appleworks for a number of years for all correspondence etc. and need to continue using this software. Do I need to go back to Snow Leopard?   d

I've just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and to my surprise it does not support my 'Appleworks' application software. Ihave used Appleworks for all correspondence for six years and need to refer to the files (letters etc.) from time to time. Is my only option to revert back to Snow Leopard?

The reason appleworks no longer runs is because it is a powerpc based application.  Since it's end-of-life in 2007, it was never converted to intel architecture, since it was dropped as a supported product.  It continued to run on intel machines via rosetta, but OS X Lion formally discontinues all support for powerpc based programs.  Powerpc based applications can only be run on OS X 10.6.8 or earlier releases (ones that still support rosetta).
So, it does sound like your best option is to move to iWorks' Pages now - otherwise you will be stuck with an increasingly more outdated operating system.  And if you should buy a new machine, it would not run the older versions of OS X anyway, so at some point you have to leave appleworks behind and move on.  Seems best to do it now, before Pages perhaps also moves forward to a point where it too may no longer support ancient file formats.

Bought the adobe product to convert a pdf image to an RTF file but cannot figure out how to get it to work

    HI wjleshe,
I've checked your account using the email address that you use here in the forums, but I don't see any order history. Did you perhaps sign up with a different email address? Or did you sign up via the Reader mobile app for iOS or Android? If you got your subscription via an in-app purchase, Adobe wouldn't have record of your order. And, you would need to contact the app store if there is a problem with your subscription.
    Best,
