I have leopard v 10.6.8, if i upgrade to lion will i need to reinstall all my software applications?

I want to upgrade to lion OS so i can make use of the icloud with my iphone 4S and macbook. However, i'm wondering if i will need to re-install all my software applications all over again after this upgrade is complete?

Short answer: You do NOT have to reinstall all your apps and copy your files back.
Longer answer: Upgrading the OS does not touch any user files. Upgrading the OS should not interfere with any applications which are compatible with Mavericks. In my experience non-Apple apps are generally left unchanged by the upgrade. It is possible that some apps may need to be upgraded. One good resource for checking application compatibility is RoaringApps.
Finally, it is always wise to backup everything, just in case. -

There is no download for the software. The factory software that you are looking for is called ilife. It is all of the software that would have came preinstalled with your mac on your original hard drive when you first bought it. You will have to get new software on your computer. This might actually be a great opurtunity to upgrade to Lions. Search the Lions software in the mac store and it will come up. Click add to cart and check out. The price for it is $20. I defientely recomend Lions, it has alot of new great features. Then wate for the install disk to come in the mail. when it come just pop it in and follow the step by step instructions. If you dont want to upgrade to lions however you can download the ilife package from apple.com for a small price. Hope this helps.

I've tried to search this question, but I'm having one of those "technically challenging" days. For some reason, I can find everything about Lion except this.... To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.

Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -
My macbook came with snow leopard, if I upgrade to Lion will I be able to use my restore disks in the future and if I do use my disks that brings me back to snow leopard, Will itunes remember I purchased Lion or will I have to purchase a second time ?
At this point, you can no longer download Lion (10.7) from the App Store, only Mountain Lion (10.8) - make sure all your applications are fully compatible if you decide to upgrade.
Yes, you can restore 10.6 using your restore disc should you wish to - and the App Store (not ITunes) will have a record of all your purchases, since it's linked to your AppleId.

You can upgrade 10.6 right over 10.5 with hardly any issues.
You will not have to resintall any applications, and the only applicaitons that get updates are the bundled one's Apple includes. Not your third party ones, those require your manual updates, but likely not paid updates for the most part.
10.6 is for Intel processors, offeres video card driver improvements, some new UI tweaks and strips out the PPC processor code your not using.
Your sort of already using Snow Leopard already under Leopard, as Leopard is for both Intel and PPC processors.
Now if your thinking of updating to 10.6 to get to 10.7, then yes, your older programs from Leopard and even some from Snow Leopard will not work in Lion 10.7
So 10.6 is as far as you go. -
I need to reinstall the system software on my older iMac. I have lost the system disks, though... so now what? It had 10.4. We moved, and I have looked everywhere. Am I doomed to find a way to buy it? Can taking it into the Apple Store fix it? Will it be expensive THERE? I've already saved all of the files I want off of it.... I just need it to work now.
You've lost me on why you need to reinstall Tiger, when you already have all the files you wanted (which means Tiger worked perfectly fine). If you want to upgrade to Leopard, that's a different issue: your Mac needs to meet the minimum system requirements for that, which you can easily determine.
If you just want to get a replacement set of Tiger install discs, you can try calling AppleCare and see if they're able to send you a replacement set, and if not, you'll have to buy a new set yourself. You can get them on eBay, Craigslist, and HardCore Mac (http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/), although they sell it for ridiculous prices.

Does it have a line in and how do you monitor sound?
Will I need adaptors and an interface?
Also, I am guessing as Logic only runs on MAC surely then they would not the best spec to recommend to run it?
I see all the upgrades as additional memory or a faster process?
Is a retina screen necessary, and why flash based storage against a 1TB hard drive, and a i5 instead of an i7
The main reason for this purchase is to play live and use backing tracks and record found sounds and make creative songs.
I hope you can provide some valuable feedback, as I am a longtime MAC user and see upgrades and changes happen regularly but the most important thing is the songs not the equipment.

I, like you, did an upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 on my iMac. It was the simplest ever upgrade! Everything was left intact. It really just changed the System Software. I did need to go in and change some preferences to my preferences, but that was about it.
I speak from experience, rather than trying to pass myself off as an expert.
If you can, get a copy of "The Missing Manual" for Snow Leopard. It covers the upgrade as well as other features of 10.6 -

It depends on the iLife (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) and iWork (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) versions you have.
If you have got iLife '11 and iWork '09, you will be able to update the applications for free, but if you have got an older version, you will have to pay for them in the App Store -

Nobody can tell you when you'll need to upgrade, as it depends on the software you're running, the operating system that software requires, and the state of your hardware. You've added memory, which you needed to do with Mountain Lion, and you could replace the hard drive with an SSD for better disk performance.
