If you have iOS6: Double click your home button. The app icons will line up on the bottom of the screen. Scroll sideways if needed to see the mail app. Hold your finger down on it until they all start to wiggle. Tap on the red circle to close the app. Single tap the home button to exit the mode.

I have the same problem as Sheilaza but haven't been able to solve it using the advice offered. The same problem applies to my Calendars. When I look at my iPad settings in iTunes, it says:
Sync Contacts
Your contacts are being synced with your iPad over the air from iCloud.
Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad.
and the same for Calendars.
On the iPad, in iCloud settings, I have checked 'Contacts' and 'Calendars' as 'ON' but the Calendar remains blank and the Contacts are a very old version that was somehow created when I set up the iPad initially.
Any ideas?

I have just purchased a mac and had no issues backing up my two iphones, but backing up my ipad2 is a nightmare, i have updated to ios7 and i have restored and backed up at least 8 times both in recovery mode and not, once done i go to set up the ipad and from the hello screen i choose my wifi network then enable location services then it asks to 1 set up as new ipad 2 restore from icloud back up 3 restore from itunes back up which i have already done so ichoose the last one plug back into itunes and do it all again and i go round and round in circles ! it's a nightmare please help.

Yes. Make a new backup first though. May be that your old backup was somehow corrupted. This will tell you where the problem is though.

As long as the apps are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . If you download them to your computer's iTunes you could then try restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content back to your device - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

Why are apps crashing on my iPad? Can you please help?

On my iPad, when I open the apps it returns to the home screen. Mostly games like gangster rio and games that take lots of space.

Try closing all apps via the iPad's multitasking bar and see if they work when you re-open them : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the apps 'screens' from there up and off the top of the screen to close them, and click the home button to close the taskbar when you've finished.
You could also do a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

i download the sofware update on to my pc and the next thing i know all my contacts are gone, the only things that have come up on the icloud CONTACTS app is the service call numbers thats it, i have no idea what to do.. i have itunes on my desktop and i looked for them there but i still cant find them, i dont have outlook i have VISTA so its hard for me to look for my contacts.

Well, if you updated to 8.2, then you are living in a different world than the rest of us. 8.1 was just released on Monday.
Do you not have an iCloud or iTunes backup that you can restore to? Have you not been importing your photos to a photo library on your computer?
Maybe you could start from the beginning and we can see if we can help. If you had to restore your device, and you have absolutely no backups, then, I'm afraid you are out of luck. However, if you have backups, or if you have been importing your photos on a regular basis, then probably most of your stuff can be recovered.
