You can find the backup files and then copy them to a safe place if you are worrying about this.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Setting up iCloud with the same account data and switching on Photostream should do the trick:
I see different photos in My Photo Stream on each of my devices.

Turn My Photo Stream off in Settings > iCloud > Photos (on a device using iOS 6, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream). Confirm that you wish to Delete Photos.
Turn My Photo Stream back on. iCloud will automatically push your stored photos to your device.
Repeat these steps for each device.

The only way to find it is to have activated Find My iPhone on the iPhone, and to have registered it in iCloud's Find My iPhone. Then login to iCloud, click Find My iPhone, and if it is turned on and active it will show up. If it is turned off or someone has found it and reset to factory settings it will not show up.
report the loss to your cell carrier and insurance and see if you can file a claim if it does not show up.
Apple will not be able to help with finding the iPhone.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords, especially your Apple ID/iCloud password NOW!
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, and running iOS 7.0, & Find My Phone turned on/activated, then phone cannot be re-activated or the passcode removed without knowing your Apple iD/Password. It will be nothing but a useless paperweight.
If not running iOS 7.0, the phone can be forced into recovery mode & restored.

It's been almost 2 weeks since i accidentally lost my iPhone, it's felt like I've lost my diary! Everything was in my phone, everything I'm in the process of trying to make a claim on my holiday insurance but I'm guessing this could take some time. I know that when I upgraded to the iPhone 4s that I set up my phone to back up automatically but apart from this I have absolutely no idea how I can get hold of any of my contact details, photo's, calendar etc etc
How on earth did I cope 15 years ago before I had my first mobile?!
If anybody can help I'll be very grateful!!

If you set up find my iphone on the iphone itself AND it is on AND it has not been found and restored, then you may be able to locate using icloud.
Otherwise you cannot track it.

Have you tried Apple's "Find my iPhone" service at http://icloud.com ? This can only work if you set it up before losing it, the phone is on, has active internet and hasn't been wiped.

The iDisk was part ot the MobileMe service, which terminated a year ago after many warning notices and emails. Any data stored on your iDisk online has been deleted and there is no way of retrieving it.
If you were using 'iDisk syncing' you might still have had the 'local copy' on your Desktop, though it would be purely local and would not have been able to sync with the server.
If this was the case you might have the disk image which formed the local copy, located in (user)/Library/Filesync if I remember correctly. If you can locate and open this then your data should still be in it. If you can't, then I'm afraid it is lost.
