I have lost my iPhoto whilst trying to move it

Someone please help me!! I bought a new macbook pro as my old imac(leopard) was slow. I attemped to copy my iphoto and put it onto my new macbook(with file sharing and a flsh drive), which did not work.....now when i try to load iphoto on my imac it tells me 'your iphoto was not found do you want to find your iphoto library' I am given the choice of quit/vreate library or choose library. Nothing I click on brings any of my photos up....where have they gone?? I went to back ups but when I click on anything in there it says error 10657.....have my photos gone forever??? Please help

actually
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop
and the OP is getting the select library window with appearently no libraries to be slected - that is problematic
They need to give details of exactly what they did and explain more about unknown things like "a fish drive" and details of statements like "it did not work"
And details on how the backup was made

We have lost our Iphoto icon and can't find it.  Our photo's are still on the computer but just in individual files.

The Application should still be in the Aplications folder.
Just drag its Icon back onto the dock.

  • I seem to have lost my iPhoto App? How can I reload?

I have lost my iPhoto app. How can I reload it?
If I use my app disk that came with the computer... will I lose any data in the process?

The app and the library are two separate entities.  What version of iPhoto  were you running? Do you have Time Machine?  If so just go back in time in the Applications folder and restore the iPhoto application from the last backup that included it.
If your Mac Pro came with Snow Leopard or earlier pre installed then use the disks that came with the Mac to do a custom install of iPhoto.  Then update iPhoto to the version you were using.
If Lion came preinstalled on your Mac go to the App Store, log ing with the Apple ID that was used to purchase your Mac Pro, go to purchases and download iPhoto.

  • I have lost my iphoto library, it is now just a white package icon

If someone could suggest the best course of action for me I would be very grateful . I have lost my photos like many here. I had backups etc, carbon clone and Time machine,For some reason my ilibrary seemed to be opening from my external drive and I just could not understand this. When I switched off the external I had no iphoto library any more.
Becoming increasingly confused I also detected, using mackeeper,  that there were various trojans in my external.
Rightly or wrongly, I started to think these two problems might be related and set about clreaning first the internal and then the extrernal. The process of searching and deleting the harddrive (3TB) and my internal drive trying to clean all the mess up was taking so long that I eventually decided to delete some of the backup files in Time machine beacuse there was at least 2TB of backup
Anyway, after all that I cannot find my photo library at all. I have a white iphoto library now located in the FINDER within the PICTURES area that is said to have 14 GB. It is liisted as a package. I do not understand what that means. But it  cannot be opened  in any way.
Should I now start a new iphoto library in iphoto and try and import this package.  As I have already mentioned, I would be grateful for any help, as all I have now are thousands of deleted photos that were in the trash..
    Thankyou

Stop wasting your time with anti-virus junk.
What should I now use as a virus program? Are these programs not necessary on  the MAC?
... My mission is to find a simple virus protection and start all over again.
... I just want something simple.
Your chosen anti-virus solution is likely to have caused the problem to begin with. OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • TS1702 Just had to have my iMac reinstalled due to a fault. Now OK, but I have lost iMovie, iPhoto and pages which i had already purchased. How do I get them back ?

How do i get Imovi, Iphoto, and pages back after have to reinstall my operating system due to a fault ?

If you bought them from the Mac App Store then they should show in the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store app on your Mac. If they were pre-installed then you might be better off asking the iMac or Mavericks forums, this forum is for questions about the iTunes store.

How does one fix the U052 wrong printer head problem? I have cleaned the heads, and yet the alarm light is on, and the printer will not do anything. This is costimg me time and money big time. I tried everything I can think of. How does one make the printer print, which I know it can do, and get past this hurdle? Any tips will be welcome.
I see that there is a "Call to Arms" on this issue, so it is a Canon failure dysfunction plaguing many people. I have 2 Canon printers, and a Canon camera. I am about to swear off Canon printers if I cannot get help with this problem soon, and warn anyone not to get one!  It is ruining me financially trying to deal with this. Please help. Thank you.

My brother never syncs either and that's not good. Should sync often if not every day. So, given that, as far as your apps go, did you remove any apps over the last year and you just forgot? If so, when you synced with your computer it simply deleted the apps from your phone. Not being snide just a thought.

  • I have lost my iPhoto app

I have just done a format of my hard drive and reinstall of mountain lion, which went according to plan, but iPhoto has not been down loaded, and now I cant access my photos from my previouse backup, can any tell me where I can get iphoto, with out having to pay for it. Thanks

It depends on where you obtained iPhoto originally.  If it came preinstalled on your Mac use the disks that came with the Mac to reinstall iPhoto.  The disk should look like one of these:
If you purchased iPhoto from the App Store the go to the store, click on Purchases and you can download it again.
In the future post questions about iPhoto on the Mac to the iLife/iPhoto community.  This is the iPhoto for iOS community.

  • I have lost my IPhoto's Library.

This has been deleted I presume at some point and I cannot find it on 'Spotlight' or trash bin. Is there anyway of finding this through a restore etc, I don't have any backup through hard drive or time capsule. 10 years of photos gone :-(
    Any help appreciated.

Well good luck with that. You're going to need file recovery software.
File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store
Couple of tips: Don't do anything else on your Mac until you've recovered what you can - normal usage increases the chances that the material will be partially or wholly overwritten. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.

  • HT4623 I have lost my photos whilst backing up can I recover them

I have list my photos while backing up can I recover them

What photos? The backup process doesn't touch any photos on an iPhone. In fact, photos in your camera roll are included in the iPhone backup.

  • I fear that I have lost email I was trying to send, and that it is a repeatable issue in Mail.app

    To recreate my issue
    Take all accounts offline
Compose two (2) or more emails and send them
Go to Outbox and select all emails
    Right-click and select "Send"
    When prompted, select "Send"
    Bring your accounts back online
The emails will not be sent, but will not be in the Outbox either
Is there any way to retrieve them?
    Thanks!

Taking the accounts offline was just the easiest way to reproduce the issue. I discovered the issue when a serverside configuration was preventing me from making a connection to the SMTP server, but the effect was the same -
I attempted to send multiple emails
The connection error prevented them from being sent so they were placed in the Outbox mailbox
I changed a configuration setting thinking it would fix the issue
    Selected all messages in Outbox
    Right-clicked and selected "Send"
    Confirmed "Send"
Messages were removed from Outbox but not delivered and I cannot find where or if they were moved
I have been able to reproduce this by both taking the accont offline and misconfiguring my smtp settings. I did not anticipate the possibility that sending emails would be a destructive act.

  • I have been spending three days trying to move iTunes to a new PC

I can move the music, the apps, everything, but what I want is to move that entire instance of itunes that recognizes my iPhone 5 (and my ipad, and my wife's ipad, and my wife and kids iphones) and make it be on the new PC so I can throw the old one out.  I refuse to believe that with the thousands of bucks we spend on these iOS devices the only answer is to have the new PC wipe their apps and libraries and everything else about them and start from scratch on a re-sync.  I've tried moving folders, userdata files, tried third party apps that calim to do exactly what I want (but are no longer supported in the current version) or claim to assist the process (but can't) and I'm about at my wits end.
How does one move an entire instance of itunes from one PC to another?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Note: Previously purchased music is only available through iTunes in the Cloud in Australia, Canada, Cypress, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Previously purchased TV shows are only available through iTunes in the Cloud in the United States.
Re "numbers"..  if you mean phone numbers (contacts) select the Info tab from the menu. Select Sync Address Book Contacts then click Tthe Sync button bottom right corner of the iTunes window.
