You can upgrade your OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.x.
You can call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a fee, a replacement set of system discs (if available), can be ordered. However, the discs will be for the original version of OS, that was pre-installed, when the Mac was manufactured.

  • Which restore disk goes with which macbook pro

Where I work we have a bunch of MacBook Pro unibody notebooks.  We have bought them over the years, so they are all different revisions.  I have a stack of system restore disks that came from these computers.  How do I figure out which disk goes to which computer?  I need to reload one of these computers so a new user can start with a fresh system.  I've tried several of the disks, but none of them work with this computer.

Contact AppleCare. Afterward put each into its own hefty bag and label them.

Do you mean you've replaced your remote and it wont work because your AppleTV is paired to your lost remote?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

You don't, your signature says you have 10.7.5 and the disk is either 10.5 or 10.6, has outdated software on it.
Keep it in case of emergency in a very safe place in case you need to reinstall on a new drive, then upgrade to 10.7.5 again.

Or, you can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro, the only thing plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

    Well
I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem.  Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol.  Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too.

Also, if you have Lion on the computer. You have a recovery partition on the drive. On startup hold down 'Control' to bring up your startup menu. Select "Recovery HD". That's how you get to it. Lion's recovery partition acts as the installation discs that came with all previous versions of OS X.

  • Why I dont have the OS X instead DVD with my MacBook pro?

Why I dont have the OS X instead DVD with my MacBook pro?

If you were running 10.7 or later, and had a normal install, there are two ways to get there
Command-R at Startup is the usual method.
Option key at Startup draws a gray screen and puts up an Icon for each Bootable Volume. Among them should be Recovery_HD. Choose that and proceed.
The Recovery_HD partition is treated as a special case, and is NOT shown by default in Disk Utility. There are parameters you can change to get Disk Utility to show all partitions.

Not really. The license that comes with pre-installed OS is only for that Mac.

  • I've just upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6.0 and have lost the YouTube that came with iOS 5.1   Help?

I have only had my iPad2 with ios 5.1 a few months but already had several videos stored with the YouTube app that came with iOS 5.1.
I have just upgraded to ios 6 and appear to have lost this App.
    What has happened?
Can I get it back, along with my stored videos?
I did sync my iPad with my PC and so there may be copies there, but not being computer literate, I would not want to transfer them from the PC to the iPad with any risk of losing them,  assuming that the YouTube App transfers with it or that I can download a YouTube aPp for ios 6.
Any advice on this aspect of the problem would be much appreciated.

  • My hard drive crashed, and I cannot reinstall the original OS that came with my macbook pro?

I bought my macbook pro (mid 2012 version) 10 months ago and it's been working fine up until now (running on Yosemite). When I opened the lid today, a flashing question mark appeared on the screen. I restarted my mac while holding the option key. I tried to do an internet reinstall but I can't get it to work. When I try to reinstall the OS that came with my mac, there are no options for me to click when asked to select a disk.
I have tried following instructions from multiple threads about how to change the disk utility.
Options on the lefthand side: "disk0" and "mac OS X base system". Options on the right: disk0 - first aid, erase, partition, and restore. Mac OS X base system - first aid, erase, restore.
None of the solutions I've found online are working for me. Most of the options in the disk utility menu are greyed out, so I can't click on them.
Sorry for any typos, it is hard to type this all out on my phone. I have tried to upload pictures, but it doesn't seem to be working. I also apologize if this is in the wrong category.

  • Lion won't operate my app and snow leopard came with my MacBook Pro

I installed Lion without checking to see if it supported my "can't do without" app.  Now I'm in a panic.  One remedy is to reinstall Snow Leopard, but it came with my new laptop and I don't have any disks.  Is there a solution to that problem?  Is Lion just out of the question, never to be used?  Help!
    Thanks to all.

Your new computer came with Snow Leopard installer discs. If you've lost them you can purchase replacements at Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775. Or you can purchase a copy of Snow Leopard at any Apple Store for $29.00.
To reinstall Snow Leopard you will have to first erase the hard drive. I hope that you have backups of your files. If not then be sure to make one before reinstalling Snow Leopard.

  • Disk problem with new Macbook Pro - Diagnosis, anyone?

    Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 15" 2.0 Macbook Pro last week, and I've been having some interesting problems. No, not the problems with the heat and the whine - mine seems to be fine on both accounts. Let me explain my story:
So I get my new, shiny Macbook Pro from Fedex, came home and booted it up over my lunch break, set up accounts, etc. and everything seemed to be just dandy. So I went back to work and when I got home that evening, booted it up again. This time, however, it stayed on that first gray screen with the apple logo and the spinning "gear" for 5 minutes! Tried several times, and finally got it to boot, but it took about 6 minutes. But some other things didn't seem right - the "Macintosh HD" icon on the desktop was not a cool little HD icon, it was just a folder. And if I'd eject a CD and put it back in it wouldn't mount the disc.
    So I called Apple support.
The guy had me boot to the install CD and run disk utility. This came up with tons of errors - "invalid node" errors were most common. So I reinstalled OSX from scratch and the problems were gone.
    Until last night.
I was trying to install the XCode tools, and the installation kept failing, saying "Please try again". So I decided to reboot. And again, I got stuck on the gray screen. Ran Disk Utility, only to have it say it "couldn't repair the disk". Reinstalled OSX, and everything seems fine. Today I'm going to be pretty intense on the HD- doing lots of installing, restarts and reboots to see if the problem shows up.
Now I know there's a problem, but since the computer is actually working now, I'm worried if I take it in to a service center they'll come back saying everything looks fine. So my question is, does this seem like a problem that could be traced to a bad Hard Drive? Maybe some sectors got screwed up, etc. Anyone with some insight would be helpful, so I can make some suggestions when I talk to the service people.
    Thanks.

    Sounds like your hard drive.
I have the 2.16 MacBook Pro and it was running fine, but around the time I started to try to install BootCamp/Windows XP my SuperDrive failed to recognize CDR's. So I took it in to have the replaced. I got it back and tried BootCamp again only to have WIndows keep getting corrupted somehow. I then switched to Paralells thinking that would work. Everything was fine for a few days and then Windows got corrupted again. I was getting very frustrated. Last night I was erasing the hard drive completely and zeroing it out, and then tried to repair the disk only to find several errors that couldn't be repaired.
SO, I'm off to the Apple Store this morning.
OH, I verified that it was the hard drive (or at least am pretty sure) because I booted off my external hard drive, and got Parallels and Windows XP to run and load flawlessly the first time. All the other times it took several tries to get XP to load properly. I'm typing this running off my external, because when I tried to reload OS X onto the MBP internal drive it ended up having errors.
    good luck!
