I have LR 5.3 it changes my RAW files to NEF.  What is happening?  I am using a Nikon D7000

I am using a D7000 Nikon.  I shoot my photos in RAW.  However,  LR 5.3 changes my photos to NEF.  What is this?

You bet E2C, and for correctness/completeness (not that it probably matters), Nikon also has NRW (raw-only, I think) format.
The point was that you can save *any* file in NX2 as NEF and have the same "original+(editing-instructions-as-metadata) thing" as Lightroom has via "original+xmp".
For the spirit of your original post probably none of this matters, so sorry if I've overwhelmed. It's just a common misbelief that NEFs are always raw, so I sometimes like to correct it when I see it - a little type-A maybe I am .
As I said before NEFs from cameras are always raw (I think).
Cheers,
Rob

If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?
I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.

How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

Thanks lllaass, but I am not computer literate and do not understand exactly what it is I am supposed to do.  All of my photos were stored on Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery.  When I now access the gallery the only thing that is there are the folders with the title of the folders.  The pictures that were in those folders are now gone. I can no longer access them on my IPOD either.  My photo library on my IPOD is now empty.
    Thanks again for your help.

Use Flash Media Server to stream the files.......set up a timer and have all three of them play at once....and have a button switch the streams depending upon which stream you want to play.....and wallah......
you can also capture the stream.time from the video playing and resume from that point on the other videos as well....havent done this theoretically so I dont know how smooth the transistion between streams will be....but it can be done....
plus u may have to use double buffering techniques to make sure it starts up right away......

I did so research, I tried to open my PS5 and went to help \ update and I
tried downloading update like 4 times each time there was a message "there
was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later".
I just need camera raw 7.3 so I can work on my raw files. Maybe you will be

I have lightroom 4 and have recently bought a canon rebel t5. I cannot get lightroom top open the cr2 (raw) files no matter what I do. Please help!!!

You need to upgrade your version of Lightroom to version 5.4 or newer.

Or, download and use the free DNG Converter, which will produce files that Lr 4 can convert.

    Hello Jfadair9,
Thanks for the post.  I'm not sure which model printer that you have but you should be able to print from your iPad 2 with the HP Home and Biz application.  This is for wireless printers that are NOT web enabled.  I've included a link below with some great information on how to get this resolved.  Good Luck!

  • I have a new camera and cannot import RAW files into lightroom.

I have a new Sony NEX 5 and have tried importing the ARW files into lightroom. The files are recognized when I import photos from device. When I choose the .arw files to import, I receive an message "unknown errors occurred" and files won't import. I have never had a problem importing files from a card or directly from my older camera. Any suggestions?

Check here to see if your camera is supported yet.
If its a camera launched in the last month it won't be. But you can try LR 3.2 RC and see if it has been added. Otherwise you will have to wait until LR supports the format. This is a problem caused by manufacturers constantly using their own formats which require Adobe to investigate every new format before adding it to LR. In 99.99% of the cases the so called new format from the manufacturers is just a line of code with the name of the camera in it. You can use a EXIF editor tool (just google, lots of free ones) to change the name in the RAW file to one presently supported and then convert to DNG. If you do go down this road then ensure you also keep a copy of the original files just in case something has actually changed.
If you are still using LR 2.7 and the format you need was introduced with LR 3 you don't need to upgrade, you can just use Adobes standalone converter to convert the files to DNG and then import them.

  • Change in RAW File Size From CS5 to CC?

I've been shooting with a Nikon D700 in RAW format. When I was using CS5, my RAW files were opening up in Photoshop at approx. 11" x 17" at 300 dpi. (4256 x 2832 pixels). Since I've upgraded to PS Creative Cloud, however, the same RAW files from the same camera are opening up at approx. 9" x 14" at 300 dpi., with the SAME number of pixels...and I can't seem to find any way of changing that. Can anyone advise what's going on here?

I seemed to have more choices; now, unless I check the "Resize" box I'm just left with the "Default 12.1 MP" option. If I leave this unchanged, and open the image from the RAW ACR dialog screen by clicking on "Open Image" at bottom right, it simply opens at 9.44" x 14.187" at 300 dpi. Any other ideas?
You seem to be confused about how many megapixels your camera has.  You have 12.1 megapixels.  4256 x 2832, which is most certainly NOT 11 x 17 at 300 ppi (do the math).
Or maybe you didn't realize what Camera Raw was doing before with the setting you chose.
Check the Resize to Fit box.  Go ahead, it won't bite.  It will give you the opportunity to open your D700 images at an upsampled resolution, as before (which, by the way, is a good idea; you can get better quality images that way - I do it all the time).

  • Request If I change public ip in windows server What will happen

    Dear Sir,
Please be informed that Currently we are using Remote Desktop Services under Windows Server 2008 R2 OS with Workgroup. We configured STATIC IP (PUBLIC IP) to connect Remotely to the Server.
We created .rdp file and sent to our clients to access remotely.
Now we plan  to change STATIC IP (PUBLIC IP) in the Server. Is it affect anything in Remote Desktop Service and Window server Configurations.
We plan to change IP and Recreate .rdp file and will send to our clients. Is it Ok. Please Explain
    Thanking You,
    Batcha

    Hi Batcha,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Yeah, you can change the static IP address for the server, bu t as you have commented you need to recreate the .RDP file for it with new IP address and server name and then provide to user to have access.

  • Does iPhoto change a RAW file upon import or export?

Hi! New Mac user here. Trying to get my workflows and backups going.
I created an iPhoto library from multiple sources: migration from PC, folders from backup HD, new photos from iPhone and camera memory card.
So I have one consolidated library that is almost 300Gb but I want to go through and remove and archive many of these, leaving only a much smaller working library with the archive copies of some originals stored somewhere else.  These archive copies will not be referenced files, my plan is to export them from iPhoto, back them up to an external HD, and then delete them from the iPhoto library. If I ever decided to look at them again, I would import them from the archive HD.
Ideally, I should have imported all the files to my iMac desktop and then imported only what I wanted into iPhoto, but because everything is now consolidated (and the photos from the iPhone and camera memory card are erased), I don't want to wipe out my iPhoto library and start over. So I'm starting with this huge managed library and want to export a good part of it to what I will call "the archive" to cull it down.
My questions: Upon import, did iPhoto change the RAW master files, or will those be the same when I export them (assuming I made no edits)? Did iPhoto change the JPEGs or will those also be the same when I export them?
How do I export the files I want to save to the archive before deleting them from the iPhoto library?
Alternatively, I think I will use Aperture going forward for editing.  Should I use that instead for trying to export these files?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
    LCA
iMac 4 GB, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.7.4
    iPhoto 9.3.1
    Aperture 3.3.1

File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original
That will export a byte by byte copy of the file you imported, unchanged in any way.
Can I suggest another way of working. Why not have two Libraries? An archive and a working one?
The principle advantage is that you won't have to import pics to review them again later, just open the other library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Elements 12 organiser has changed all raw files to jpeg - how do I get raw files back?

Cannot edit raw files as Elements (12) seems to have changed them all to jpegs - can anyone let me know how to get raw files back?

    Hello Jim,
Many thanks for your response.  Wondering if we did something in Elements preferences?  Usually, when thumbnails are opened in the editor, it’s a raw file to work on.  However, all the thumbnails, when opened in the editor, are all of a sudden opening as jpegs …. not raw.  o it looks as though all the raw files are now jpegs, and we don’t know how to get them back.
Any help you can offer will be gratefully received, as my husband works on his photos in Elements and it’s driven him mad!
    Many thanks & regards.

  • Iphoto changed my RAW files to JPEG when copying to folder

I had a folder of RAW files that I imported to iphoto for the purposes of easy viewing and deleting some similar/duplicate images. Once I finished with the images I copied them back to my desktop and iphoto converted all my images to jpeg - so now instead of each one being a 10+MB RAW file they're now all ~1.5MB jpeg.
I didn't do anything other than import the photos then trashed the ones I didn't need then copied the rest of them back to my hard drive.
Now, I started on another batch of photos that are already imported to iphoto before I realized the others were only JPEG. Lots of RAW files with a couple jpegs in there as well...and I can drag the jpeg photos to my desktop fine but the RAW files won't move, I can't drag them to a folder on my desktop.
    What the heck just happened?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How did you copy them to the Desktop? *If you want the RAW file you need to export them to the Desktop with the Format option set to Original.* That will give you the orignal RAW file. If you just drag them from the iPhoto window then you will get the jpg version that iPhoto creates for viewing and editing with iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Color change in RAW file from CR2 to DNG

I recently got a new Canon camera, the 60D and when converting from the CR2 file format to the DNG format using the latest 7.2 version of DNG Converter I notice a color change between the original image (CR2 file) to the new DNG file.  Once I open it into Camera RAW (version 4.6 with CS3) the color issues go away and if I save it as a JPEG the color issue is no longer a problem but if I were to resave the DNG file to another DNG file it reverts back to the color changed view in MacOS.  Is this something that I need to be concerned with for future use of the RAW files or is it a display issue in MacOS and iPhoto.  The DNG file also shows the color change in iPhoto.  Below are the two screen caps.
RAW CR2 file straight from the camera
Converted RAW CR2 to DNG using DNG converter
This issue only appears to occur in preview mode or in iPhoto.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

Try changing the CAMERA’S color-profile settings from sRGB to Adobe RGB or from Adobe RGB to sRGB, switch to the opposite one, and see if the previews are any closer for new CR2 you convert to DNGs.  The theory is that the preview is in terms of the camera Color Profile setting (sRGB vs Adobe RGB) and when the image is converted to DNG that profile is lost for iOS to see, and it is defaulting to the wrong profile.
In the end , what matters is how Camera Raw converts the file.
Also DNGC 7.3 is the latest version:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
