To expand, I have been using LR for over a year now and never had a problem until today. I am downloading from my card directly to my Macbook Pro. I'm not using a card reader, I'm using the Macbook card slot.

I performed the permissions repair in the disk utility and tired again and it still wouldn't import the test shots. Got the same error message. I created a new catalog for the wedding I have to shoot this weekend and that was the only thing I had done differently. I tried importing the test shots to an existing catalog and it imported them. I deleted the new catalog and created a new one and it allowed me to import my test shots. I don't have any answers as to why it worked but I appreciate your response.

It depends on how you are using iPhoto and Aperture.
iPhoto and Aperture each create their own library files, and the default location for them is in /users/youruseraccount/Pictures
You can configure iPhoto and Aperture to use the same Library file, in which case your photos are only stored once. But if you are using iPhoto & Aperture with independent library files, you may in fact be duplicating your storage.
The second consideration is whether or not you have configured iPhoto and/or Aperture as reference libraries, in which case their library files only reference photos you have stored in other places on your hard drive. Setting them up as reference libraries does not duplicate the photos inside the library files.

My apologies. Your post jogged my little grey cells to the point that I did a few experiments. In essence, you are right. My plug-ins do not work with 8-bit greyscale images. I like to deliberately shoot B&W and have a Wratten #12 minus-blue filter on the lens--as I used to do with film cameras.
The raw files ( Fujifilm's .RAF) were converted in Adobe CR by checking off "Convert to Grayscale" under the fourth tab. In the future, I will do the B&W conversion in Photoshop with either Nik or Topaz plug-ins.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.

I had this problem with my 4s a couple of times when I'd taken the headphones out and it hasn't registered it. My solution was easy, all I had to do was turn the phone off and then on again.
Although I'm sure you've already tried this its a sometimes forgotten and very easy solution to a lot of problems. I hope you find out what's wrong.

Opening photo from bridge into photoshop converts to smart object

Instead of opening the psd-file normally from bridge into photoshop the file converts to smart object.
I used to work with CS3 where double-clicking in Bridge on a psd-file would open it in Photoshop. Now, when I double click in Bridge (CS6) it opens a "quick time pro" file, which I definitely don't want. When I use the right mouse to "place in Photoshop" it does so, but then automatically converts the file into a smart object, which I don't want either. What need I do to open a psd-file in Bridge as normal psd-file in Photoshop?

and shows all the files in the "program X86" on the C-drive. but I don't
know what to associate it with, or said differently, I don't know what file

QT and iTunes unable to run since day one!

Hi everyone,
I'm desperate for an answer I cannot sleep! This problem has been around for some time but now it is time I face it.
Since day one when I bought this Acer notebook, after installing some basic programmes like Microsoft Office etc, I cannot run quicktime nor itunes after installing. The installation went fine, but they crash every time I open them. Neither can I open Quicktime in control panel.
I cannot uninstall both qt and itunes as well. The uninstaller will quit unexpectedly in the middle of loading.
Also I cannot move, rename nor delete mov files. So they are stuck there I cannot modify them.
I have been using some Quicktime Alternative codecs I found on google to play QT mov, but now I need the QT plugin for Combustion and After Effects.
Can anyone with any fixes help me out please? Thanks a lot.

It is because QT and iTunes didn't work before that's why I went installing the alternative.. I removed the QT alternative nevertheless, QT and iTunes still crash when I open them.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

no they are already in mp3 format I just tried that home sharing today because I couldnt find any other reason why they werent syncing. here is an example of a sync I just tried. I made an mp4 concert into an mp3 it came out perfect on my computer.. then I tried to sync it to my ipad with no luck, other than it going on my computer, it did not show up anywhere on my ipad in any area of the music sections etc playlists, songs, albums etc. Its just not there but remains on my computer. thats why I tried the home share today to see if that would help. I have a mid 2007 iMac w/ mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. My time machine (LaCie) is not responding through firewire port (since day one). Did an update mess this up?

I have just recently realized that my time machine has not backed up in a couple of weeks. I am using a LaCie external hard drive that I purchased with the iMac and has been plugged into the firewire port since day one. When I try to establish a connection it only gives me airport utility. When I look through network connections it shows that my fire wire is not connected or at least it doesn't find anything connected.
I have also been getting a start up disk message off and on that I need to close applications due to no more memory? (or something similar to that).
Just curious what might have changed. Did an update re configure something? Are these two issues connected?
I have always loved my Mac for the fact that it just always worked. I'm not super savvy with computers and the settings so I'm not the kind that just goes in to tweek things. This is the first real issue that I have had with it. I would think that it was the fact that I upgraded to lion but I did that quite a while ago.

It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
1. Shut the machine down.
2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
3. leave it for 10 minutes.
4. Connect back up and reboot.
